- Hi guys! In this video, I'm teaching my sister a choreographed hula dance to "He Mele No Lilo" from the Lilo and Stitch movie by Chris Sanders. It is by no means an accurate representation to the beautiful traditional Hawaiian dance and is not meant to offend anyone. This is simply a breakdown of various body part moves. I really appreciated that "Hula language" part for the first 8 beats ^^ I think it's always good to understand what the body is storytelling during a dance before presenting it to an audience,

This is an amazing video :) I'm a native Hawaiian so I love how natural the dance is to the song. Only thing that would make it better was if you were to put it all together at the end so show what it shoud look like with the moves and music and everything.

Can you do a video doing the dance from beginning to end? I'm performing the dance with a group for a themed party but I can't seem to find a good video of the dance the right way.

Mahalo, Jessica. Hula dance is turning popular in my country (I'm from Venezuela) but there are still many questions about culture and technique. I take classes of Bellydance and Ori Tahiti, also started to teach them this year and think Hula is very interesting too so we're gonna try at least basic things. that was great. I'm going to watch this over and over again until I've got it all down! One question about differences though, please: In other versions of the dance, as well as in Lilo and Stitch the movie, after the intermission they do this heel-toe-scooting sort of move. Why is it that some versions do not incorporate that part into the dance? Is this a historical fault on Disney's part? I'm probably overlooking several other differences between the cinematic animation and the actual choreography, but that one is the most apparent. Thank you so much for your instruction!

What's the english for He inoa no kalani kalalakaua kulele? and for He mele no Lilo ( I think mele is like song)?
He inoa no ka lani Kalakaua ku lele~ " A namesong for the Chief Kalakaua
He Mele No Lilo is "A song for Lilo," but as 'Lilo" can also mean 'lost' some think that the song can be translated as "A song for the Lost"
The whole song is a tribute to Queen Lili'uokalani and King Kalakaua, the last two monarchs of Hawai'i before America forced Lili'uokalani to sign a treaty dismantling it. Because the United States were terrible to the Hawaiians, and don't ever let anyone say we weren't.

Well, I very much doubt you still need the translation but He Mele No Lilo is A song for Lilo.And for the first one its a namesong for the chief, Kalalakaua.
+Mona C Hey Native Hawaiian here. So "He inoa no kalani kalalakaua kulele" is hawaiian for "A namesong for the chief Kalakaua" and "He mele no Lilo" is "A song for lilo" The song itself is about our great kings and queens and our beautiful nation
so hula is kind of like sign language?
It means "A namesong for our chief Kalakaua. Cast forth!"
