  • Metal slug 4...man, the best description someone told me about this is that it's a just a fan game because 4 was handed to a team who didn't even know how to make a metal slug game.
    What's new in MS4? The combo system which is purely just for score, even then it's not really worth it. There's two new characters two, Nadia is sweet, Trevor is a mixed bag because one of his animations locks him in place which in turn just makes him a free target, at least it's fully animated.
    Gameplay is pretty much the same, level design is just weird, enemy placements are just weird too. Such as the snowmen appearing out of nowhere unlike in MS3 where it shows where they reside. A lot of the stages have a ton of reused assets except for mission 3 up until the final one. Out of all the missions, mission 3 is the best because it's the shortest, final mission because of the cool espionage thing going on.
    The game isn't too hard either, Sea Satan and Mecha Allen are the only real threats here if you're looking to do a no death run for MS4. Though the biggest highlight for me would be the music, it's pretty good.
    Bottomline, MS4 has a ton of reused stuff BUT it's playable. The stages are a bit on the bland side, mostly because of how dull most of the environments look. Not the best entry but it's playable, would I recommend it? Personally, no, you're better off just watching gameplay and listening to the music.
