Qi Hun/Hikaru no Go was without a doubt my highlight of the year... it made me write fanfic for the first time in over a decade. It totally took my by surprise - I cringed when I saw the first promo posters and now I'm so damn happy it exists.

Hikaru no Go is highly recommended. Best anime live action I've ever watched! ALL actors are great, their characters are well developed, even suppoting characters impress me. The story is professionally written, the production crew paid a lot of attention to details. I love this drama so much!
Many of favourite dramas were all recommended by you! The Long Night, The Bad Kids and Murderous Affair at Horizon Tower. To be honest, I know the production quality in both The Long Night and The Bad Kids was higher than in Murderous Affair, but I liked Murderous Affair more because of the characters, which I felt were more compelling, and for me characters > plot. I did love the other two so much too though, and I'm so happy Bai Yu is getting such good roles after Guardian. But my favourite drama of the year has to be Winter Begonia, that drama is just extremely tailored to my tastes... theatrical world, centered on a single relationship etc. etc.
My very first reaction on watching this drama was "Awwww!!" You look so prettyyyy. Most of the c-dramas I watched this year are the older ones like Love and Destiny, The Untamed, Princess Agents and Ashes of Love. So I haven't watched ANY of the dramas on this list 😭😭 I think I'll watch Hikaru no Go, Ancient Detective and Romance of Tiger and Rose though 😊
Did anyone watch the drama called Go ahead (以家人之名)? I really like the cast and the family dynamic it’s really good. Totally recommend. Loved the whole drama and it doesn’t really drag in my opinion there’s only 40 episodes compared to those long 70 episodes that are trying to fill time.
Reunion and winter begonia were the best for me I really liked the characters and plot in both and specially the friendship and acting in Reunion along with its high production
Tiger and Rose, I loved when the main character talked about giving the comedic character or sidekick character hundreds of lines like this character won’t shut up and it’s cause the author is trying to make a word count 😂😂😂😂 and I’m like ok, 🤔🧐 that’s why those annoying super talkative side characters are there!

Absolutely love this! The music is super, and the voices are so unique. Since I don't understand the language, I'm listening a lot, so the different little musical sounds add immensely to my listening pleasure. ( I watch the episodes several times to get the full gist. Still great each time. )

I watched the first episode and i couldn't stand it's cheesiness.. I don't want to play down the show but it's made for only a specific demographic, therefore it shouldn't be on this list
@@dualidea Uhh I wouldn’t say it’s made for a specific demographic. It’s hard to explain without spoiling much but the Untamed is like two stories in this one, but there are no filler episodes or anything like that.
I've started watching JOL after reading all the compliments by fans in the comments as some said one of the best c-dramas but so far I've watched till ep 12 and still I haven't seen anything that much interesting besides it is like so slow paced I almost skipped most of the ep 12. The lead and his drumstick lover are annoying. Will it get better in future episodes? I thought it's a crime thriller drama with interesting plot.
@@narsis273 It gets better! I can't remember what happens from ep 1 to ep12...but later the battle of wits and also political plotting gets more interesting. IMO the drumstick girl is not that important in the storyline, and there aren't many romantic scenes, so don't worry. 😂
This year is clearly iQIYI's year!!! As a xianxia/wuxia fan, I'm really disappointed this year because there was not a single historical drama I enjoyed. I seldom watch C drama. But is my favorite love story as the lead actor and actress created a wonderful chemistry in 2020. And the male character is extremely close to my ideal type. Both actor and actress caught the feeling of the characters and did good jobs. Although there are lots of places to improve. The way they talk about women power is not deep enough. It met my needs to 磕 CP.
I'm in the middle of Love In Between at the moment and really, really love the lighting! All those candlelit scenes just add so much to the drama in terms of atmosphere and immersion in the settings. I haven't really seen this style of scene in the other historical Chinese dramas I've watched and it's such a shame!
Wow My Roommate is an Detective it on my watch list because I like the 2ML but then I watch Love is sweet . The only character I really hate is the actress playing the best friend then I realized she is the FL 😡,
I've not seen as much dramas as I'd like this year, but CROSSFIRE was totally a highlight. I laughed my ass off, cried, got excited, ALL THE FEELINGS. And the best is my husband watched with me since he was hooked up because of the gaming element.
Love and Redemption slayed them all. I almost watch all the 2020 C-drama due to quarantine and the Love and Redemption gave me a roller coaster emotions. It is very hard to predict, the actors and production were amazing. It has 59 episodes however one you reach the final ep. You will want MORE. The male lead, Cheng Yi (Sifeng) is one of the best actor of all time.
I absolutely agree with you. After watching this drama, I felt really difficult to find another drama which can be compared to this drama. Chang Yi is an amazing and brilliant actor which can't be described in just few words.
@@Pearlwhite33 lol you guys must be 12. He stares only in one direction and delivers his lines in an expressionless monotone. He is good not great though I think it's mostly the directorial choices. The whole drama is convoluted, laughable and ridiculous. Started off well but got really really tiresome when the lead actress, the so- called God of War 🤣🤣 was whining and crying sifeuh! sifeuh! all over the place instead of saving the world. Yeah right. Not sure why this drama got high ratings, I suppose it had a sappy ending? Which I won't be finishing. Absurd drama.
Maiden Holmes was really good if you want a light hearted romance drama. The best thing about Maiden Holmes is it doesnt make you wait until the very last episodes before they have realistic couple interaction. There's a lot of intimacy which is rare in most CDrama.
And the female lead was very mature and reasonable. Both the main leads discussed their problems and avoid unnecessary confusions. After watching countless stupid reckless vapid heroines in c drama this drama was a pleasant surprise. It really need some recognition
Hikaru no Go is definitely my heavenly pleasure of this year. Not only the nostalgia hits hard, the drama itself is really amazing. I usually watch drama in low quality video, but I set highest quality for this drama.

Hikaru no go is my favourite Chinese drama I've watched and it's the only one that I could binge without stopping (usually Chinese dramas get boring in the middle) and I even started rewatching it. But I will definitely check out the other ones on your list here!!

I've watched Hikaru no Go, Crossfire, Love in Between, Romance of Tiger and Rose, The Bad Kids, Winter Begonia, out of all the dramas mentioned in this video. My faves were HnK, LiB, and WB. I liked Winter Begonia so much that I've even rewatched random parts of it. And since Chinese shows are so long, it's seldom that I rewatch one.

But if you're interested in trying something, since we both love WB, then I can't not recommend Nirvana in Fire. Of the original above list, I'd most highly recommend Hikaru no Go and Love in Between. For purely personal enjoyment reasons, not objective reasons (objectively they're all good).

I agree with your point about romance of tiger and rose! I enjoyed it a lot while it was airing and couldn't wait to see it finish but it also didnt have a long lasting effect on me. I still like it a lot and enjoyed the story, characters, and OST and appreciate it in general. I'm surprised how many times I've Fallen For You have appeared as a good drama. I wasnt compelled to continue after the 3rd or 4th episode but perhaps I'll have to give it another try. Thanks for this list!

Although it was very depressing drama to watch (the most unlucky and unloved crowned prince in drama history lol) but the script writers , the props and actors did a marvelous job. Just want to let you know... after watching your video, I went for The Long Night and I watched it straight 12 eps. And yes, it is one of the best dramas I ever watched. Definitely the best of 2020. This drama has left an imprint to my heart, and it will last for many many years after this too.
So many good comments about HnG, but I'm still not there to try it. I'm still scarred by the live action adaptation of another Japanese manga by a Chinese production. I knew it! I was screaming because right after avenuex said the title pf this video, i was literally shouting "The Long night! The Long night!" This for me the best of the best, story wise because it really made cry especially from Bai Yu's acting huhuhu I started following his works since I saw Guardian and I was impressed to his acting. Gosssshhh Hands down. P. S. I was happy you included Ancient Detective, because I really like the characters there, because you can ship the two actors but you don't find the leading actresses annoying because I'm really protective to my brotherhood ship hahahahaha but I really hope for the season 2 to the point that I'm afraid it won't happen since it was not famous enough. But I really pray for its season 2 because I want to know the darker side of Jian Bu zhi 😘😘😘

I guessed right what your top 3 dramas would be based on your reviews of them :) A well deserved ranking. I haven't watched anything from your tier 2, but your tier 1 overlaps with mine quite a lot, though I would have found room to include A Murderous Affair in Horizon Tower and Winter Begonia as well. These two hold a special place in my heart. I think Horizon Tower even beats The Long Night in my book as far as the "crime/police/reflection on what justice is" genre goes; I especially love how it puts women at its center and isn't afraid to address important social issues in today's society. Winter Begonia is my favorite 2020 drama overall, I just find it so aesthetically beautiful and mesmerizing, and the two leads captured my heart. Such a shame it's not as popular as it deserves to be, but I get that the time period and the Opera subject can be off putting especially for foreign audiences.

I haven't finished much drama this year because I rewatch a lot of stuff. I remember that I managed to rewatch Joy of Life, Yanxi Palace, love and redemption and eternal love, idk how I did that. My favourite is definitely The Bad Kids, The Long Night, The romance of tiger and roses, Murderous affair in the tower horizon, Love in between (I don't have expectations and this is surprise), love and redemption. I have soft spot for dating in the kitchen, it's one of the drama that shows age gap being talk as they themselves actually evaluate their feeling. It's drama that gives the whole experience of love that just love, the end story is kinda weird with the sudden brother in the 3rd acr. Another soft spot is the wolf because Darren Wang does a great job imo and it's like a guilty pleasure in a way because he is so powerful and it's crazy. I need to watch Hikaru no Go since it ended. I am so afraid of this one since I read it as a kid. I don't watch the anime and it something so dear to me personally. I remember I've fallen for you as a really funny drama but I don't remember if I finish it.
My favourites and most memorable this year is Reunion the sound of providence and Ancient detective. I also enjoyed Hikaru no go, bad kids and the long night.

Hikaru no Go is highly recommended. Best anime live action I've ever watched! ALL actors are great, their characters are well developed, even suppoting characters impress me. The story is professionally written, the production crew paid a lot of attention to details. I love this drama so much!
Many of favourite dramas were all recommended by you! The Long Night, The Bad Kids and Murderous Affair at Horizon Tower. To be honest, I know the production quality in both The Long Night and The Bad Kids was higher than in Murderous Affair, but I liked Murderous Affair more because of the characters, which I felt were more compelling, and for me characters > plot. I did love the other two so much too though, and I'm so happy Bai Yu is getting such good roles after Guardian. But my favourite drama of the year has to be Winter Begonia, that drama is just extremely tailored to my tastes... theatrical world, centered on a single relationship etc. etc.

My very first reaction on watching this drama was "Awwww!!" You look so prettyyyy. Most of the c-dramas I watched this year are the older ones like Love and Destiny, The Untamed, Princess Agents and Ashes of Love. So I haven't watched ANY of the dramas on this list 😭😭 I think I'll watch Hikaru no Go, Ancient Detective and Romance of Tiger and Rose though 😊
Did anyone watch the drama called Go ahead (以家人之名)? I really like the cast and the family dynamic it’s really good. Totally recommend. Loved the whole drama and it doesn’t really drag in my opinion there’s only 40 episodes compared to those long 70 episodes that are trying to fill time.

Reunion and winter begonia were the best for me I really liked the characters and plot in both and specially the friendship and acting in Reunion along with its high production
Tiger and Rose, I loved when the main character talked about giving the comedic character or sidekick character hundreds of lines like this character won’t shut up and it’s cause the author is trying to make a word count 😂😂😂😂 and I’m like ok, 🤔🧐 that’s why those annoying super talkative side characters are there!

Absolutely love this! The music is super, and the voices are so unique. Since I don't understand the language, I'm listening a lot, so the different little musical sounds add immensely to my listening pleasure. ( I watch the episodes several times to get the full gist. Still great each time. )
Winter Begonia still is my #1, Hikaru no Go and I've fallen for you share 2d place, Ancient detective - 3d. I watched most of the mentioned dramas and i plan to watch the few i missed during winter holidays.

@@dualidea Uhh I wouldn’t say it’s made for a specific demographic. It’s hard to explain without spoiling much but the Untamed is like two stories in this one, but there are no filler episodes or anything like that.

I've started watching JOL after reading all the compliments by fans in the comments as some said one of the best c-dramas but so far I've watched till ep 12 and still I haven't seen anything that much interesting besides it is like so slow paced I almost skipped most of the ep 12. The lead and his drumstick lover are annoying. Will it get better in future episodes? I thought it's a crime thriller drama with interesting plot.

@@narsis273 It gets better! I can't remember what happens from ep 1 to ep12...but later the battle of wits and also political plotting gets more interesting. IMO the drumstick girl is not that important in the storyline, and there aren't many romantic scenes, so don't worry. 😂

This year is clearly iQIYI's year!!! As a xianxia/wuxia fan, I'm really disappointed this year because there was not a single historical drama I enjoyed. However, iQIYI'S suspense dramas took me by surprise! The following are my favorite Chinese series of 2020 ranked:

I seldom watch C drama. But is my favorite love story as the lead actor and actress created a wonderful chemistry in 2020. And the male character is extremely close to my ideal type. Both actor and actress caught the feeling of the characters and did good jobs. Although there are lots of places to improve. The way they talk about women power is not deep enough. It met my needs to 磕 CP.

I'm in the middle of Love In Between at the moment and really, really love the lighting! All those candlelit scenes just add so much to the drama in terms of atmosphere and immersion in the settings. I haven't really seen this style of scene in the other historical Chinese dramas I've watched and it's such a shame!

I've not seen as much dramas as I'd like this year, but CROSSFIRE was totally a highlight. I laughed my ass off, cried, got excited, ALL THE FEELINGS. And the best is my husband watched with me since he was hooked up because of the gaming element.

Love and Redemption slayed them all. I almost watch all the 2020 C-drama due to quarantine and the Love and Redemption gave me a roller coaster emotions. It is very hard to predict, the actors and production were amazing.
It has 59 episodes however one you reach the final ep. You will want MORE.
The male lead, Cheng Yi (Sifeng) is one of the best actor of all time.

After watching this drama, I felt really difficult to find another drama which can be compared to this drama. Chang Yi is an amazing and brilliant actor which can't be described in just few words.
@@Pearlwhite33 lol you guys must be 12. He stares only in one direction and delivers his lines in an expressionless monotone. He is good not great though I think it's mostly the directorial choices. The whole drama is convoluted, laughable and ridiculous. Started off well but got really really tiresome when the lead actress, the so- called God of War 🤣🤣 was whining and crying sifeuh! sifeuh! all over the place instead of saving the world. Yeah right. Not sure why this drama got high ratings, I suppose it had a sappy ending? Which I won't be finishing. Absurd drama.

Maiden Holmes was really good if you want a light hearted romance drama. The best thing about Maiden Holmes is it doesnt make you wait until the very last episodes before they have realistic couple interaction. There's a lot of intimacy which is rare in most CDrama.
And the female lead was very mature and reasonable. Both the main leads discussed their problems and avoid unnecessary confusions. After watching countless stupid reckless vapid heroines in c drama this drama was a pleasant surprise. It really need some recognition

Hikaru no go is my favourite Chinese drama I've watched and it's the only one that I could binge without stopping (usually Chinese dramas get boring in the middle) and I even started rewatching it. But I will definitely check out the other ones on your list here!!

I've watched Hikaru no Go, Crossfire, Love in Between, Romance of Tiger and Rose, The Bad Kids, Winter Begonia, out of all the dramas mentioned in this video. My faves were HnK, LiB, and WB. I liked Winter Begonia so much that I've even rewatched random parts of it. And since Chinese shows are so long, it's seldom that I rewatch one.
As a fellow fan of WB, i will try watch the fav drama of urs. The Bad Kids , some people will like it and some would be sooo against it like me. Thanx
@@shiryuusama6725 My favorite drama/show of all time is Nirvana in Fire, but of course I couldn't list that above because it's from 2015. But if you're interested in trying something, since we both love WB, then I can't not recommend Nirvana in Fire. Of the original above list, I'd most highly recommend Hikaru no Go and Love in Between. For purely personal enjoyment reasons, not objective reasons (objectively they're all good).
Enjoyed every drama you mentioned here. Especially loved Hikaru no go, Bad kids and Long night from your list. Anyway, thank you for recommending such well-produced dramas instead of basic idol romances which never offer anything new.

I agree with your point about romance of tiger and rose! I enjoyed it a lot while it was airing and couldn't wait to see it finish but it also didnt have a long lasting effect on me. I still like it a lot and enjoyed the story, characters, and OST and appreciate it in general.
I'm surprised how many times I've Fallen For You have appeared as a good drama. I wasnt compelled to continue after the 3rd or 4th episode but perhaps I'll have to give it another try.

Just want to let you know... after watching your video, I went for The Long Night and I watched it straight 12 eps. And yes, it is one of the best dramas I ever watched. Definitely the best of 2020. This drama has left an imprint to my heart, and it will last for many many years after this too.

I knew it! I was screaming because right after avenuex said the title pf this video, i was literally shouting "The Long night! The Long night!" This for me the best of the best, story wise because it really made cry especially from Bai Yu's acting huhuhu I started following his works since I saw Guardian and I was impressed to his acting. Gosssshhh Hands down.
P. S. I was happy you included Ancient Detective, because I really like the characters there, because you can ship the two actors but you don't find the leading actresses annoying because I'm really protective to my brotherhood ship hahahahaha but I really hope for the season 2 to the point that I'm afraid it won't happen since it was not famous enough. But I really pray for its season 2 because I want to know the darker side of Jian Bu zhi 😘😘😘

I haven't watched anything from your tier 2, but your tier 1 overlaps with mine quite a lot, though I would have found room to include A Murderous Affair in Horizon Tower and Winter Begonia as well. These two hold a special place in my heart.
I think Horizon Tower even beats The Long Night in my book as far as the "crime/police/reflection on what justice is" genre goes; I especially love how it puts women at its center and isn't afraid to address important social issues in today's society.
Winter Begonia is my favorite 2020 drama overall, I just find it so aesthetically beautiful and mesmerizing, and the two leads captured my heart. Such a shame it's not as popular as it deserves to be, but I get that the time period and the Opera subject can be off putting especially for foreign audiences.

I haven't finished much drama this year because I rewatch a lot of stuff. I remember that I managed to rewatch Joy of Life, Yanxi Palace, love and redemption and eternal love, idk how I did that.

The Bad Kids, The Long Night, The romance of tiger and roses, Murderous affair in the tower horizon, Love in between (I don't have expectations and this is surprise), love and redemption.
I have soft spot for dating in the kitchen, it's one of the drama that shows age gap being talk as they themselves actually evaluate their feeling. It's drama that gives the whole experience of love that just love, the end story is kinda weird with the sudden brother in the 3rd acr. Another soft spot is the wolf because Darren Wang does a great job imo and it's like a guilty pleasure in a way because he is so powerful and it's crazy.
I need to watch Hikaru no Go since it ended. I am so afraid of this one since I read it as a kid. I don't watch the anime and it something so dear to me personally.
