Cang Lan Jue will forever be a masterpiece. It's one of the best xianxia cdrama in the history. Hope Wang Hedi and Esther Yu partner up again in another drama in the future.
Honestly dylan & shuxin did an amazing job here with their acting & chemistry. Clj had quite a complicated story & relationship development of dongfang qingcang and xiao lanhua. But you could really feel the sincerity put into each scenes by them. And I watched their behind the scenes videos too & they were so adorable, playing around & running around like kids on the set. They were very comfortable with one another, no wonder why the chemistry just shines on screen.
A Dream of Splendour has to be the boat scene when he's leaving and she's staring at him from the balcony. Just terrific camera work and visual storytelling. No words needed. Chemistry!

To me the best of the best are Love Between Fairy and Devil and Blue Whisper. Dylan Wang and Esther Wu are the hottest couple of the year, I love them! and Blue Whisper is one of the most beautiful and touching love stories I've ever seen. Both dramas are beautifully written, beautifully acted and have a wonderful soundtrack. I love!
Love Like the Galaxy will stand test of time as a classic. The ENTIRE Ensemble made this show a keeper. Of all c-dramas, I keep re watching highlights over and over. I don't do that on ANY drama of any country.
Oh My God, I do the same. I watch my favorite episodes, in my feed there's those 7min videos with highlights I watch them. I'm relatively new to Wuxia and I always force myself the two first episodes but this time I binged watched it. I would add the BTS director Fei devotion to the scenes. It was a cinematographic Jewel 💎

Those first two couples that you mentioned are like golden love and diamond love ... very different, but each beautiful. Didi and Esther were definitely the most shipped CP this year ... and they were very good together ...

And obviously one of the couples with the sweetest, Magical on screen chemistry (And off screen too).😍😍😍 Wang Hedi's unexpected performance was excellent and Yu shuxin did and amazing job too. Other personal favorite of this year is "Love like the galaxy". Ling buyi-shaoshang's chemistry was just explosive too, in a different and deeper way 😍😍 Re-watching both these series into 2023 too 😂
LBFD was the best drama of its type. Everything was just so perfect. Even the song track was great and how they integrated the music seamlessly. The different types of relationships weaved into the story. One of the best examples was when he shook the hand of his long term friend between he went to sacrifice himself. TUnfortunately after LBFD, other dramas just don’t seem good.

I am glad you said what you did about Love Between Fairy and devil. The part about the love between all types of relationships. I think only more mature audiences can see that rather than fall into all the trap of the visuals. I love they developed the story between them and all the other characters until the fail of the last episode lol. I don't think kissing should have been the last thing they do. There are more intimate and deeper things between a couple besides a kiss. For example when he touched his forehead against hers as he was saying goodbye and dying. Also I love how she went from what others thought was a weak female to what is to me, the strongest of all creatures in that world. Next, I will watch Under the Skin per your rating.
because of your last review video i'm going to watch Reset this holiday! LBFAD was one of my favourite dramas of the year it was way better than i expected. i also was on the verge of giving up on this type of drama LLTG i also loved - i don't usually watch this genre of drama but i was hooked I've yet to finish LaP - i paused when it got to the angsty section and i'll finish it in the new year (i think) but very natural chemistry from the leads imo thank you for introducing me to some great dramas this year Happy New Year!

Since I watched just the historical dramas I totally agree with your three picks, especially A Dream of Splendor. I was totally devastated when they were apart for too many of the later episodes. For me honorable mention goes to A New Life Begins and the new Unchained Love has the potential of being my next CP candidate.
New Life Begins was so good! The main couple were so sweet and believable. I love that Li Wei originally wanted to go home and wasn't impressed by being at court or having money or status. She wanted true love with someone she chose.
No one can outshine Wu Lei and Zhao Lusi. They are even recognized all over the world now. No promotion etc but just pure talent, sizzling chemistry and beautiful people with amazing story.

I have watched almost all of your list, probably because I have found over time that we have similar taste and opinions. Lighter and Princess is hard for me to get into for all of the same reasons. I keep trying but have only been able to watch one episode per session. I think like you, I am too mature to have patience for the teen love story. I always gravitate towards romance dramas, but I'm always a stickler about them. While I watch and usually enjoy them, only a few give me a lasting impression of the drama itself or the romance. I will forever be biased about how A Dream of Splendor made me FEEL chemistry. It definitely has to do with the great acting between Chen Xiao and Liu Yi Fei and the director's choice of shots - really adds to the scenes. So well done that I can vividly recall specific scenes and how I felt while watching. I'm also biased about subtle romance, which Reset did well in, where they can still focus on the details and not let the (implied) romance negatively affect the story. I truly enjoyed the story and acting in Shining For One Thing, but the romance was mediocre. Still need to watch/finish watching a few that you mentioned in the video. Enjoyed another year on the channel - thanks for continuing to put out videos!

Lei Jiayin, love to watch him, his facial expressions are so captivating! Started to watch him when I watched him in The Longest Day...so explosive, immense deep dark portrayal and storyline. In this Lei Jiayin not only has to act as a Saviour but alot of fighting and leaping scenes! One superb amazing classic very good actor inspite of his age!

I agree with your list but another favorite CP of mine this year were Z.Tao & Song Zu Er in "Legally Romance". I didn’t even know either before this drama but they were just so sweet….like real sugar, not artificial sweetener 😄

You might like to watch “Foever Night 2”. Dylan is the ml in the second part. The shot most with natural scenery across the country and Dylan did all action scenes by himself when he was 19 years old.
A dream of splendor was just amazing. Totally rock them. I feel in love with CX since then. Reset was also a true unexpected gem this year!! But i am team LBY all the way. LBFAD was also good. Episode 9 brought the drama to live and the close 2nd is Dylan Wang.
Now that you mentioned it… Can Lan Jue does talk about father son love, brother love, master and disciple relationship and what’s the right thing to do and what’s stepping over the line. Very interesting.
I enjoyed the chemistry of the leads in "Be My Princess," a satire about method acting and the Chinese entertainment industry. The wuxia drama "Heroes" featured an endearing older couple, an elderly martial artist and his blind wife. Their story is both beautiful and heartbreaking. The other couple in "Reset" I adored was the allergic teen boy and his cat. Happy New Year!
I think Lu, Cat Apostle, Asthma Conqueror of Asthma, Chosen One of the Light, Di could be his own CP. 💜 Loved the old couple in Heroes, tho Xiao Shi and Da Bai are my CP of the year.
My fave CP in 2022 is Gu Qianfan and Zhao Paner from A Dream of Splendor. Their chemistry is so natural and mature, every kisses, every conversation, every flirts, every stares made me satisfy watching it. This is the chemistry that I'm looking for and I understand why you also loved them. Gupanshenghui is being loved by people in china and I think if they ever reunite again in one project, then BOOOM, it will be a hit again.
For me... Love Like the Galaxy and Dream of Splendor CP's are some of my all time favorites. Love like the Galaxy is my heart.. don't know what else to say, loved all of it. She is my favorite anyway and she got me hooked on Chinese Dramas with Love of a Thousand Years. I'll watch anything She and her male leads are in. I actually have not finished Dream of Splendor because I watched your review before I was finished and got the spoiler of the "what happened to her family by....". I have to watch your reviews either way before I watch it or after... My heart is not ready for the emotional pain that situation is going to cause them both. Though from some of the recent dramas, I do now understand why it is a difficult situation in the Chinese culture. Love Between Fairy and Devil... I tried to start it, but the whiny voices got to me. I like the male lead from when I watched him in that remake of the Korean Drama Boys over Flowers. He is good at that intense "Stare Down". So I will give it another go, maybe speed past some of the jealous girl crap. I disagree about Reset. Great show. Watched it all within 2 days, could not stop. I can see a strong friendship out of it, but romance, no. They did not even hint much about either of them being attracted to the other. This is one of those shows, that when they kiss, I am like "why are you doing that" Maybe the scenes that could make love happen ended up on the cutting room floor.
I didn't like the first grouping of episodes of LBFAD because of how childish and try-hard XLH is in Shuiyuntian. The series gets better as she matures. Dylan Wang is gorgeous and the main draw of the show for me. DFQC is so badass as an all powerful ruler that I paid more attention to him. XLH was being a brat and not understanding why she can't just go back home like nothing has happened (the people there mistreated her anyway so it was especially weird), so I didn't find her as compelling.
Reset is one of my favourite cdramas (i was a fan of the film Speed so it was inevitable), the other cdrama I like (and if I like a drama it means I adore its main couple) are My fated boy, My little Happiness, Crush (only the first half) and First love again (only the first half). I really like How you approach your reviews, can you help me find a cdrama easy and happy like My little happiness to watch, I would love somenthing simple and cute adapt to relax. I tried Mr.bad but it didn't function for me.

As an international viewer of Chinese costume Drama from the other part of the globe , Best young couples to my opinion in 2022 : romance between fairy and the devil , Dylan performed well , even though the end is a blow in the scenario. The couple in dream of Splendor are both mesmerizing ❤️ ..every bit is genuinely charming. All in all , best couple chemistry which truly stir in me sparkles and tears are nothing but : Chang'an and wan mei 💔💔 in bloody romance a 2018 costume Drama. Even though years have passed, nothing compete Liyitong with Qu chu xiao.. They perform better than any famous Hollywood actor. They are underrated. Chu xiao is a drama by himself! Beautiful flower hairpiece!😍 Unfortunately A lifelong journey still doesn’t have English subs. I watched first part in Chinese but can’t understand enough. In addition to CPs mentioned, for me the pairing between Xu Kai en Yang Mi was a pleasant surprise. I did not expect anything from She and her perfect husband but it turned out to be the only drama involving Xu Kai I have ever watched till the very end.
A few years back. I watched you for a short while but wasn’t watching Chinese dramas of any type at the time. Weird, I know...absolutely no relevant connection other than enjoying your enthusiasm and your enunciation of the Chinese language. Fast forward, YT algo offered up Story of Yanxi Palace and I fell down the rabbit hole. I've just finished watching Lost You Forever which led me to Under The Skin, Tan Jian Ci. [I know makep is a larger part, but his complexion! 🥰] Moving on.... And guess whose channel pops up in my algo feed again.... yours! Thanks for all of the delightful and enthusiastic analysis. I have a lot to catch up on. •••• For us English-only speakers, it would help greatly to also include the English-language YT drama title in your video graphics, not just the title in Chinese. I absolutely agree with the analysis! And I want to ask for advice: have you recommended me any good classic Chinese books?! Not a modern novella, but a classic. I love reading, but I'll admit that the only Chinese book I've read is "The Art of War":) I want to get to know Chinese culture better and I see you read a lot, I'd be happy if you could recommend something :)
Maybe try something from Jin Yong, like Legend of the Condor Heroes. It’s not that old (compared to old Chinese classics), but that’s where the xianxia dramas originally come from. I think AvenueX made a vid about the different Legend of the Condor Heroes adaptations a while ago. If you want to read some really old books, read their four classics: Journey to the West, Dream of the Red Chamber, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin. If I remember it correctly, the 2nd is the “newest” with being written in the late 18th century. Guess, AvenueX has more recs but those come to my mind immediately.

Heroes’ Wang XiaoShi and Bai Choufei are my fairy and devil CP of ‘22. In much the same way that the sunny, innocent fairy taught the antisocial devil how to open up to trust and love others in CLJ, in the way fairy matured knowing devil, in the same way Xiao Shi and Da Bai complement each other so well. So so shippable, it made up for any other shortcomings the series had.
Only two Cp stood out for me this year. Chemistry was too hot . (1) Who Rules the world. (Yang Yang & Zhao lusi). (2) Lighter & Princess ( Chen feiyu & Zhang jiyi). Ps: I would love to watch A life long journey once it becomes available with eng subs.
I am quite new to the chinese dramaland. I started in February from Ruyi Royal love in the palace, and I haven't seen that many dramas. I've watched Love like a galaxy and I love the drama and its CP. But.... I have just finished The Untamed.... What can I say? 😍

I so enjoyed your reviews and suggestions on a genre I am just beginning to explore. I took notes as best I could from the transcripts so I could find the names of the dramas but they went by really fast and sometimes got mixed in with the names of the actors. I would love longer display the official drama ads (in English) or markers where each review began so I could rewind until I got it. Small potatoes. I will happily watch more of your channel.
Dream of splendor was my favorite but I also found cp of luoyang to be cute. Compare to other drama cp they did not have anything special but I found that awkward slow romance really cute
To be honest I haven't watched any of the dramas mentioned here. I only watched two dramas this year "Let's meet now" and "My secret roommate". Between these two dramas I really liked "secret roommate" couple, they had so many pretty moments and it was a comfortable watch.

LBFD was the best drama of its type. Everything was just so perfect. Even the song track was great and how they integrated the music seamlessly. The different types of relationships weaved into the story. One of the best examples was when he shook the hand of his long term friend between he went to sacrifice himself. TUnfortunately after LBFD, other dramas just don’t seem good.

I am glad you said what you did about Love Between Fairy and devil. The part about the love between all types of relationships. I think only more mature audiences can see that rather than fall into all the trap of the visuals. I love they developed the story between them and all the other characters until the fail of the last episode lol. I don't think kissing should have been the last thing they do. There are more intimate and deeper things between a couple besides a kiss. For example when he touched his forehead against hers as he was saying goodbye and dying. Also I love how she went from what others thought was a weak female to what is to me, the strongest of all creatures in that world. Next, I will watch Under the Skin per your rating.

Since I watched just the historical dramas I totally agree with your three picks, especially A Dream of Splendor. I was totally devastated when they were apart for too many of the later episodes. For me honorable mention goes to A New Life Begins and the new Unchained Love has the potential of being my next CP candidate.
New Life Begins was so good! The main couple were so sweet and believable. I love that Li Wei originally wanted to go home and wasn't impressed by being at court or having money or status. She wanted true love with someone she chose.
Buyi and Shaoshang only as runner-ups?!!! Bonkers🤣🤣🤣
My 2022 best cp award goes to Qianfan&Pan'er. The chemistry and the acting are both superb. The runner-up is Shaoshang&Buyi.

I have watched almost all of your list, probably because I have found over time that we have similar taste and opinions. Lighter and Princess is hard for me to get into for all of the same reasons. I always gravitate towards romance dramas, but I'm always a stickler about them. While I watch and usually enjoy them, only a few give me a lasting impression of the drama itself or the romance. I will forever be biased about how A Dream of Splendor made me FEEL chemistry. It definitely has to do with the great acting between Chen Xiao and Liu Yi Fei and the director's choice of shots - really adds to the scenes. So well done that I can vividly recall specific scenes and how I felt while watching. I'm also biased about subtle romance, which Reset did well in, where they can still focus on the details and not let the (implied) romance negatively affect the story. I truly enjoyed the story and acting in Shining For One Thing, but the romance was mediocre. Still need to watch/finish watching a few that you mentioned in the video. Enjoyed another year on the channel - thanks for continuing to put out videos!

Lei Jiayin, love to watch him, his facial expressions are so captivating! Started to watch him when I watched him in The Longest Day...so explosive, immense deep dark portrayal and storyline.
In this Lei Jiayin not only has to act as a Saviour but alot of fighting and leaping scenes!

You might like to watch “Foever Night 2”. Dylan is the ml in the second part. The shot most with natural scenery across the country and Dylan did all action scenes by himself when he was 19 years old.
A dream of splendor was just amazing. Totally rock them. I feel in love with CX since then. Reset was also a true unexpected gem this year!! But i am team LBY all the way. LBFAD was also good. Episode 9 brought the drama to live and the close 2nd is Dylan Wang.
Now that you mentioned it… Can Lan Jue does talk about father son love, brother love, master and disciple relationship and what’s the right thing to do and what’s stepping over the line. Very interesting.
I enjoyed the chemistry of the leads in "Be My Princess," a satire about method acting and the Chinese entertainment industry. The wuxia drama "Heroes" featured an endearing older couple, an elderly martial artist and his blind wife. Their story is both beautiful and heartbreaking. The other couple in "Reset" I adored was the allergic teen boy and his cat. Happy New Year!
I think Lu, Cat Apostle, Asthma Conqueror of Asthma, Chosen One of the Light, Di could be his own CP. 💜
Loved the old couple in Heroes, tho Xiao Shi and Da Bai are my CP of the year.

My fave CP in 2022 is Gu Qianfan and Zhao Paner from A Dream of Splendor. Their chemistry is so natural and mature, every kisses, every conversation, every flirts, every stares made me satisfy watching it. This is the chemistry that I'm looking for and I understand why you also loved them. Gupanshenghui is being loved by people in china and I think if they ever reunite again in one project, then BOOOM, it will be a hit again.

Love like the Galaxy is my heart.. don't know what else to say, loved all of it. She is my favorite anyway and she got me hooked on Chinese Dramas with Love of a Thousand Years. I'll watch anything She and her male leads are in.
I actually have not finished Dream of Splendor because I watched your review before I was finished and got the spoiler of the "what happened to her family by....". I have to watch your reviews either way before I watch it or after... My heart is not ready for the emotional pain that situation is going to cause them both. Though from some of the recent dramas, I do now understand why it is a difficult situation in the Chinese culture.
Love Between Fairy and Devil... I tried to start it, but the whiny voices got to me. I like the male lead from when I watched him in that remake of the Korean Drama Boys over Flowers. He is good at that intense "Stare Down". So I will give it another go, maybe speed past some of the jealous girl crap.
I disagree about Reset. Great show. Watched it all within 2 days, could not stop. I can see a strong friendship out of it, but romance, no. They did not even hint much about either of them being attracted to the other. This is one of those shows, that when they kiss, I am like "why are you doing that" Maybe the scenes that could make love happen ended up on the cutting room floor.
I didn't like the first grouping of episodes of LBFAD because of how childish and try-hard XLH is in Shuiyuntian. The series gets better as she matures. Dylan Wang is gorgeous and the main draw of the show for me. DFQC is so badass as an all powerful ruler that I paid more attention to him. XLH was being a brat and not understanding why she can't just go back home like nothing has happened (the people there mistreated her anyway so it was especially weird), so I didn't find her as compelling.
Reset is one of my favourite cdramas (i was a fan of the film Speed so it was inevitable), the other cdrama I like (and if I like a drama it means I adore its main couple) are My fated boy, My little Happiness, Crush (only the first half) and First love again (only the first half). I really like How you approach your reviews, can you help me find a cdrama easy and happy like My little happiness to watch, I would love somenthing simple and cute adapt to relax. I tried Mr.bad but it didn't function for me.

Best young couples to my opinion in 2022 : romance between fairy and the devil , Dylan performed well , even though the end is a blow in the scenario.
The couple in dream of Splendor are both mesmerizing ❤️ ..every bit is genuinely charming.
All in all , best couple chemistry which truly stir in me sparkles and tears are nothing but : Chang'an and wan mei 💔💔 in bloody romance a 2018 costume Drama.
Even though years have passed, nothing compete Liyitong with Qu chu xiao..
They perform better than any famous Hollywood actor.
They are underrated.
Chu xiao is a drama by himself!

Beautiful flower hairpiece!😍 Unfortunately A lifelong journey still doesn’t have English subs. I watched first part in Chinese but can’t understand enough. In addition to CPs mentioned, for me the pairing between Xu Kai en Yang Mi was a pleasant surprise. I did not expect anything from She and her perfect husband but it turned out to be the only drama involving Xu Kai I have ever watched till the very end.

A few years back. I watched you for a short while but wasn’t watching Chinese dramas of any type at the time. Weird, I know...absolutely no relevant connection other than enjoying your enthusiasm and your enunciation of the Chinese language.
Fast forward, YT algo offered up Story of Yanxi Palace and I fell down the rabbit hole.
I've just finished watching Lost You Forever which led me to Under The Skin, Tan Jian Ci. [I know makep is a larger part, but his complexion! 🥰] Moving on....
And guess whose channel pops up in my algo feed again.... yours!

I absolutely agree with the analysis! And I want to ask for advice: have you recommended me any good classic Chinese books?! Not a modern novella, but a classic. I love reading, but I'll admit that the only Chinese book I've read is "The Art of War":) I want to get to know Chinese culture better and I see you read a lot, I'd be happy if you could recommend something :)
Maybe try something from Jin Yong, like Legend of the Condor Heroes. It’s not that old (compared to old Chinese classics), but that’s where the xianxia dramas originally come from. I think AvenueX made a vid about the different Legend of the Condor Heroes adaptations a while ago.
If you want to read some really old books, read their four classics: Journey to the West, Dream of the Red Chamber, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin. If I remember it correctly, the 2nd is the “newest” with being written in the late 18th century.
Guess, AvenueX has more recs but those come to my mind immediately.

Heroes’ Wang XiaoShi and Bai Choufei are my fairy and devil CP of ‘22.
In much the same way that the sunny, innocent fairy taught the antisocial devil how to open up to trust and love others in CLJ, in the way fairy matured knowing devil, in the same way Xiao Shi and Da Bai complement each other so well.
So so shippable, it made up for any other shortcomings the series had.
Please let us know when a lifelong journey comes to Disney+! I’d sign up just for that. Not available with English subtitles even on IQiyi.
Only two Cp stood out for me this year. Chemistry was too hot .
(1) Who Rules the world. (Yang Yang & Zhao lusi).

I so enjoyed your reviews and suggestions on a genre I am just beginning to explore. I took notes as best I could from the transcripts so I could find the names of the dramas but they went by really fast and sometimes got mixed in with the names of the actors. I would love longer display the official drama ads (in English) or markers where each review began so I could rewind until I got it. Small potatoes. I will happily watch more of your channel.

Dream of splendor was my favorite but I also found cp of luoyang to be cute. Compare to other drama cp they did not have anything special but I found that awkward slow romance really cute
To be honest I haven't watched any of the dramas mentioned here. I only watched two dramas this year "Let's meet now" and "My secret roommate". Between these two dramas I really liked "secret roommate" couple, they had so many pretty moments and it was a comfortable watch.
Such a pity that Hi Venus is not able to be included on this list ... talk about shippable!!!!!
