Many many thanks for this very helpful tutorial. I upgraded to an 18 speed Peterbilt and tried everything to get my shifter sorted. Deleted config and control files. Set up a 2nd profile to try various ideas but nada. Rediscovered your video and the key was using the bottom right slot for reverse. Then everything fell into place. Heaps of other videos omitted this important step. So thanks again.
Thanks very much for this video. I was struggling here in the UK to set up my gears. I have the same gearshift as you. Great tutorial, I’ve liked and subscribed 👍
@@dieselsmokegaming I got it and it feels super high quality when I’m shifting. Took me a few to figure out cuz it’s a little different than a real 18 speed transmission but still a lot of fun.
It does have a good feel when you are shifting. Not exactly accurate to real life but I think it's as close as you can get without making your own from scratch. Definitely worth the investment.
Justed watched your vid great, by the way , your H plate can b turned 90 degrees and will give you the sequential gear box style screw hole that already exists to tighten plate back down so no need to try find a new plate
All of the links to what I use are in the description. The actual steering wheel I use is just a generic 6 bolt steering wheel attached to the Logitech G29 steering wheel base. The shifter I use is a generic shifter from Amazon attached to the Thrustmaster TH8A shifter base.
Thanks man. I'll have to get back to you on the mods, I haven't played the game in a while and I'm currently seeing which mods still work and which ones don't. I will let you know when I find out if they still work.
The truck mod still works. It's the generic rolling 389 mod you can find on any mod website or you could get the paid version of the truck. I honestly can't remember the original mod site I got it from. My sound mods don't work at the moment. Looking for the updates for them. I'll keep you posted on that.
i need help , recently i just switch from just doing just automatic to H-SHIFTER, got everthing right from watching your video, when i change gears, and shift, it says NEUTRAL, on all gears, if anybody can help me i appreciate, i know others may sound easy, but if your new, can hard to figure out
This may sound dumb but are you pressing the clutch in all the way? You said you set it up fine, so the game acknowledges the shifter. I've never ran into this issue before so it'll be hard for me to troubleshoot. You should be able to switch through gears with the truck off. I would double check all of your settings to make sure everything is setup the right way for using the H-pattern.
I bought a similar shifter a few months back and now it stopped working on me. I never downloaded any software and my computer recognizes the shifter but not the inputs. I’ve switched the ports I’ve put the usb in and I can’t get it to work and sometimes it says hardware error in the device manager
I've had the same thing happen to me, I'm not sure why it does it. I had to buy another shifter. So far this one has held up and has good reviews. I'm assuming something shorted out internally on my old shifter. I never took it apart to confirm it though. If this one goes out I will purchase a custom one from someone like ats accessories. If that happens I will update the links in my description. If you are good with working on things you could take yours apart to see if anything has come apart on the inside. I don't really have a good answer for you buddy, I'm sorry.
Hi man, just got a question, i have the same knob with the logitecht g29 gear shifter. Is installed the knob but in game it shows up under the name ANXTF1. When i try to set up my stick itself does not work, the range selector and the splitter do work, but i can't get it in any gear somehow. What did you do to make it work with ats or ets2?
I haven't had that problem. It sounds like your Logitech base isn't being recognized. You are using the G29 gear shifter that came with the wheel? If so, and this may be a dumb question, but do you have the shifter plugged into the bottom of the steering wheel? Make sure that connection is tight, I don't recall having any problems when I was using the Logitech shifter. If all connections are tight, try to run the setup wizard and see if it will let you set up the shifter that way.
i just bought a 18 speed shifter. But, i see that the high/low shifter arent in correct position, isn´t? Cause if you want to change from low to high speed, you need to press down the side switch instead of press up.... is there a way to revert it?
I haven't found a way to revert it back to the way it's supposed to be. I think the game recognizes the switch a certain way. I have had other people tell me that I can take the shifter apart and rotate the switch around to make it work the opposite way though. I haven't done it but it could be something to look into.
open the shifter (removing the cap), you will see a purple wire that is welded to a sided conector (the middle conector is free). You need to unweld it from the side position to the middle position, and thats it.@@Rarishine031
I can’t find any shifters that mimic the actual shifter in the truck I drive. I drive an Eaton 10 speed where reverse is top left and 1/6 is bottom left and gears 5/10 are on the bottom right. Any ideas on where I might find something to be realistic to what I actually drive? Or is this something that can be remapped and then I can ignore the top plate that has the pattern? I’m trying to make it as realistic as possible and don’t want to shift different in game compared to real life
I'm honestly not sure. I haven't used a 10 speed in the game so I will have to play around with it when I get on next time. I'm pretty sure there's a 10 speed option in the drop down menu in the settings. I'm not sure if you've tried that or not. I'll get on when I get off work and see if I can get it figured out.

This is the Rezbilt truck right? How do you make it so the steering wheel and shifter move when you turn it off? Also, that button box is sick. I'm getting one if I still play this game next month.
I honestly don't remember which truck that is. I'm pretty sure it's the Rollin 389 ReneNate truck. You can find it on just about any mod site. I don't use the Rezbilt truck in my new profile, and all my trucks do that when I turn the ignition off. The button box and shifter were the best investments I've made for the game for sure. Thanks for watching buddy!
@@dieselsmokegaming Hell yeah, since commenting I've bought the Rollin 389 (not the Rene one x)) and downloaded the IEA mod that moves the wheel when you turn it on/off. Also got a button box, and agree. Makes it way more fun. :)
Yes it is inverted, on a real Eaton Fuller the switch moves forwards and backwards. Since my button moves up and down the game on recognizes it a certain wait when you program it. I've tried to program it the right way but it won't recognize it that way for some reason.
You're welcome, I barely notice it now. I had to sit down and drive with it to notice it again. This is the 2nd shifter I have used but I can't remember if my old shifter was the same way. I'll have to look back at my first videos in the series.
I think I know what the problem is. the switch in the lever is on the wrong side. if you open the lever, you will see that the switch is in the upper part, therefore it is registered there as low.
You don't go through all the gears, look for videos from real truckers you barely need to use the splitter in low range. In game, I sometimes split my low range gears when I'm on a ramp pulling heavy loads.
That is correct, in game I barely split gears unless I'm recording a video and want it for dramatic effect or when I'm using an underpowered engine fully loaded.
You might not need to go through all the gears in ats, but in real life it is good practice and sometimes necessary to go through all the gears. It helps everything wear evenly instead of abusing certain gears.
@@motox4124Using some gears more than others won't do those gears any harm. Most real-life truck drivers have a regular block-changing patern that misses out certain gears. The main aim is to avoid unnecessary clutch slipping in lower gears when pulling away from a standing start.
