Yeah I have a was gonna be a 50 mile race but I’ve been working double shifts so it’s down to the 25 now next weekend in North Carolina with about 5000 feet gained 25 miles so I’m doing that and then I’m trying to file Eric Horton philosophy before you jump into base building and thinking about your next alters and everything to work on your speed so even if I don’t run a marathon or run a bunch of 5K I’m gonna work on that kind of training for a few months and thenbecause I don’t wanna do one to 200 this year and then go from there so at 61 I got to play by different cause my body will die or fall apart. Love you man we’ll see ya.
So mid December I’m gonna start working on Astor mile repeats one day a week and then maybe also one day a week I might add in Hill repeats in the beginning and the rest of the week will be easy. I’m going to do that for probably four weeks probably or until the end of January say Then mostly spend time working on faster road stuff but not going ridiculous until maybe March and didn’t find a spring race. I’m excited about doing and go from there so I guess you can that suggestion instead of just doing slow base building which for the heck out of me I like to still throw in one to two days a week during base building a little bit of speed and at the end of every slow run I’ll do stripesto help that speed to help me fight cut off

Yeah fitting it all in to a regular work schedule is a challenge. Sounds like you are making the effort though! Good luck this year!

You got this! As we have gotten past the fall race season now one way I’ve stayed engaged with my running is mixing it up. I’ve explored neighborhoods I’ve never ran through, tried to find paths I’ve never taken before to keep it interesting. It’s amazing all the streets I haven’t seen even in my own town.

I've been feeling "out of shape" too, but really, I'm still in shape. LOL! I'll have some training to do before my races next year but frankly, any high volume training that I do now won't matter too much. I believe that general consistency and lifetime fitness accounts for a LOT in fitness. Great video! Glad you got some R&R!

It’s good to see you back, Dan. I sorta fell out of training as well after my second failure at the North Dakota Badlands 150 miler in October.
I turned 59 years old in December, but I’m still out there routinely knocking out 50 milers and beyond, at least up until October. 😢
I’ll be following you on your return, and doing the same thing.
Here’s looking forward to a great 2024, and more fantastic videos!

One approach (a little opposite to buckle down and dig in) is make it as easy as possible to get your exercise in. There are heaps of tips out there - get your gear ready the night before, etc. And realise some days you need to rest, some days doing a strength workout may be more beneficial, especially if the weather is awful. (Confession - I'm a shocking fair weather runner), And consider cross training, bike or swimming or something like a cross fit or similar class. You will have a really good base, you might not need to run as much as you think.

I think finding the why in a pursuit can be difficult when the pursuit and the Goal has been accomplished when you first went after something as big as 100 miles the training was new everything about it was new you had the fire now its been accomplished now you have to give a new name to your Goal it cant just be another 100 mile race but challenge yourself to do a race that is gonna really challenge you and your training to the point of understanding if i don't do this workout i wont reach this goal of achievement training is not optional when you sign up for a 100 its part of the adventure every successful business owner will tell you it didn't just happen it took work! you need to find a special Race that will re ignite the fire for me it was a race like Eastern states 100

A basement exercise bike + treadmill (with a big screen TV in front of them) is an absolute lifesaver in the winter. It at least eliminates the "bad weather" excuse :)

Booo treadmill. Get out and run in the elements, (says the guy who lives in Sacramento and doesn’t have to deal with the snow or ice). Great video. Thanks for the content.

Sometime when the weather is bad and I don’t want to get out there, I try to look at it like an adventure and try to enjoy the suck. It doesn’t always work, but sometimes I end up enjoying the hell out of running in bad conditions.
