It seems I have a thing for the AKM 4499+4191 DAC chip set. This is the 5th or 6th DAC I have reviewed that use it. I really like the sound of it very Much. I think this type of Hybrid, Switched Resistor, Multibit Delta-Sigma Chip is the future of DAC technology. Excellent review as always. If you could do a revuew of the SMSL VM2r dac with the Rohm chipset would wonderful. I think you would like the presentation and analog type of soind the Rohm dac chip offers. Om an owner pf the D300 DAC THAT was the first to offer the Rohm Dac chip.
OOPS. Seems the link in the video description leads to the SMSL D400EX which is discontinued. A quick search for "D400" does show the correct link. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
another nice review...I have the SMSL DO300EX with the same AKM DS Chip set 3399+4191 configuration that I bought on sale for $347...I wonder if the D400 Pro is an improvement over what I am using now, perhaps upgraded dual OP Amps...too many incremental upgrades sometimes that it is better have all the DACs open for switchable OP Amps so we can tune the sound signature to our taste.
I think more companies are starting to use theiir own clock instead of the phase lock loop in the chips. The AKM chip set was when I found a Delta SIgma I liked. I still like IIS inputs.
I have this DAC and use it with Audrivana. it’s wonderful sounding but SMSL doesn’t support Apple computers for the firmware updates. This is a real shame.
The affiliate link: “This product has been discontinued. It is no more. It has ceased to be.” There are number of reviews out there on this one $959 seems like too much in the current market so not surprised SMSL shelved it

17:33 I don't see it as rambling, your insight is appreciated.
SMSL do have some good audio equipment. Thank you for your insights and information transfer on this DAC. Merry Christmas, Sir. Take care.
Thanks, you too!
Merry Christmas, my friend, and I hope you have a very Happy New Year!
Way to keep knocking these out Ed. Some good value going on. Merry Christmas my friend. 🎄🎄

The link works just fine. They are sold out however.
@@OldGuyHifi Wrong link for me as well. You mention $619 price and the link you suggest is NOT it. ;-) And it seems the D400 is NOT sold out.
