Hi man, first of all, very nice tutorial it helped me a lot getting better and its just way more fun to play with Slap Flicks than "normal". But I don"t know why, but i have a problem slap flicking so only one string is sounding. There is always the string underneath the one i want to play which is sounding with him. My question is, is it just a thing you practice and it will get better by the time or are there any "hidden tricks" to make it easier? keep on doing such good work, Greetings from Germany
It's definitely a keep-practicing situation. Check out this video again while you practice, you might notice something that you didn't before as you get better!
This was a video I have been waiting for my entire life because I've never really felt comfortable with slapping the guitar strings because I don't really know what the heck I'm doing but then after watching this video of this girl named Jayme Dee covering that song pumped up kicks by Foster the people, I noticed that the slap didn't sound exactly like a slap but more like a flick so I was very confused😂 so thank you so so so so so so so so so so so so so much
I'm currently playing a song where sometimes 1st and 2nd strings are slap flicked together, which isn't a problem, but other times the 2nd and 3rd strings are slap flicked together, which might be a problem. I am slightly raising my flicking finger for the motion and trying to not strike the 1st string, but the necessary speed of the motion makes it hard for me to tell if I'm doing the technique right or not. It sounds decent enough to me. Is a slight lack of accuracy forgiving/normal for this technique? Thanks!

the first 10 minutes i tried this i got EXTREMELY frustrated because the notes i flicked where waaay too loud and weird, i soon found out that my ringfinger can flick alot softer than any other finger and i realized its because i had it extremely loose and relaxed that was the key for me, the fingers flicking shouldnt be flexed/stiffened in any way
3:40 I don't understand this part. When I do this only a faint sound comes out, barely perceptible. Along with a squeaky sound. Are my strings too tight or something?
When i tap the bass string my other finger would go into the hole and when i pull back the string hurts my finger. what can i do i really want to learn to play like this :(
I did not give up doing this, I just kept on doing it, practicing it at least 5 minutes every time I pick up my guitar and now I can do it properly! Made my playing a lot more interesting! Took me several months to get it down though!
Kinaesthetic feel ... So important. I tried playing Thumb plucking, thumb slap, and claw plucking. There seemed to be " no smoothness" in the flow. I guess I can say now that there was no right kinaesthetic feel. Thanks.
Absolutely! Finding the right kinaesthetic feel is crucial for smooth playing. Each technique like thumb plucking, slap, or claw plucking has its own nuances, and it can take time to develop that fluidity. Keep experimenting and practicing, and don’t hesitate to slow down to really focus on the motion. With time, you'll find your groove! Keep up the great work!
I think the hardest part is not how to do it but flicking the string without mistouching others. been struggling with this technique for quite a long while yet I still failed. any advice?🙃
Hey man, i'm teaching myself the guitar and really want to learn this technique. Unfortunatly, when i try to thumb-slap, my strings dont make this clear bass sound. They kind of viberating and make this high , snorring sound. Andy tipps?

try finding a sweet spot on the top string it will definetly make that percussive sound nd slap real fast nd not slow
I know I'm half a year late but better late than never, right? I agree with abhishek kshirsagar but it could also be your action on your guitar that is either too low or too high which will result in the top strings often are buzzing

There is one big difference here. Clawhammer banjo players do not strike down with their thumbs but have their thumbs in position to pluck a string (typically the 5th string unless you're drop thumbing) and the motion is a slight upward pluck. In trying to do this guitar technique it is contrary to the clawhammer stroke which makes it even harder to execute IMO.
ever wonder why so many people say they wanna learn guitar but very few actually learn to play ?
cuz they gie up on this technique its ery hard

Try hitting the string a bit harder, and make sure your left hand is allowing all the strings of the chord to ring out clearly.

do you use your nail when you flick downwards?
Yes, but lightly. Just to keep the notes ringing out. Mess around with it any you'll find a balance.

This comes down to practice. Improving finger dexterity will help as well.
Practice flicking each single string without the slap first

I mean no disrespect but "popularize by John Mayer"? That's just comically inaccurate. The technique probably existed before he was even born.
That’s the reason why it is popularized not created by john mayer lol
