This book show who humanity was so violent to itself and yet even the grunts were terrifying, like that one that tore off the arms of a marine

No, peace was originally wanted with humanity and original plans were for them to join the covenant but mistakes were made and it caused the Human covenant war to happen
According to Contact: Harvest
The Covenant showed up to Harvest and their "luminary" device showed every single human on the planet as the symbol for "reclamation", indicating a forerunner artifact.
When they showed up and had their first contact meeting, the Brute chieftain in charge was getting impatient with the humans not giving him the artifacts he wanted, meanwhile a grunt got startled on seeing militiamen Osma, and shot at him. This started a firefight nearby between a second Covenant party sent to find artifacts, and a second militia group sent to cover the area. The grunt lost its gun and jumped on Osma, using its claws to tear him open.
After the Covenant retreated from the scene, the Brute chieftain contacted High Charity about the encounter, where one of the San-shayum who would eventually be one of the prophets in the games, discovered his message. During the prophets coup aboard the juggernaut in High Charity, the oracle inside, "woke up". A forerunner construct designed to pilot the juggernaut from the San'shayum homeworld after reseeding it, and then take off to earth where it would wait there, but had been hijacked by San'shayum following the aftermath of the original halo firing.
The oracle corrected the prophets when the mentioned the reclamation symbols on Harvest, telling them it was the symbol for "reclaimer" and that since the reclaimers have finally been found, he will override his programming to reunite with them. Nearly destroying High Charity as he attempted to take the central juggernaut with him.
The prophets prevented this, and blackmailed the priest with them. Becoming the prophets of Truth, Regret, and Mercy.
With the information they received from the oracle, they concluded that humanity must be members if the forerunners who were left behind from "The Great Journey". And that if anyone could be left behind, it would shatter the Covenant. Both because Humanity would represent a species _above_ the hierarchs, and because some species may for reasons unknown, not complete the journey. Which would cast doubt on their fragile Covenant.
So an order was given, no quarter for humanity. The hierarchs would cover up what they learned and have humanity wiped out entirely.
There was never any time for them to consider humanity joining. The situation at Harvest moved too quickly. Humanity was never considered for joining the Covenant.
Each contact with humanity and the Covenant was violent. With the Kig'yar pirates and the freighters, to Tartarus and his Uncle.
Mistakes? The prophets ordained it once they discovered we were chosen to take up the mantle from the forerunners they had to kill us or risk losing everything
it never would've happened.
humans have a problem with someone showing up and telling you what your new religion is going to be. doesn't even play between different members of our own race.
Numerous mistakes…like thinking humanity wanted to join the covenant
Humanity would have been offered a place in the covenant had the forerunner luminary not referred to humanity as the "reclaimers" in the prophets presence. When that happened they knew the gig was up and decided to exterminate instead to keep the show going.
The book also showed thet the first contact at Harvest was something of an turning point for the Covenant.
For a while, the Covenant would include races into their 'Aliance'. Humanity was excluded, and then deemed heritical, only because there was a power change from within. If the Prophets at the time of Halo:Reach and Halo 1-3 didnt come into power, humanity could've been seen as Gods because of the Reclaimer title.

I really apreciated seeing the inner workings of the covenant in the book, especially learning how truth, mercy and regret came into power

A really interesting alternative timeline would be the council learning of humanities statuts as "reclaimers" and bringing humanity in as equals to the San Shayum and Shangheli.

Reach
Reach was ruthlessly quick and extremely bloody for both sides. Even thought The Covenant won an overwhelming victory, they suffered millions upon millions within a single month, leading to many desertions. Humanity lost the entire planet and suffered millions dead as well, but found installation 04 with the Pillar of Autumn.

That would have made a cool game the reason 343 fail to make good Halo games is cause they have no desire to be imaginative & don't care to licen to fans its not that there scared to take risk they just don't feel like doing enything else and expect everything to continue to be profitable because of Halos legacy there just piggybacking till they suck out as much money as they can they don't care about making good games.
343 has been focused on the overall lore but they made a lot of actually amazing changes lore wise. I just don't think they know what to do with Master Chief. They did everything right in Halo wars series and honestly, they should have stayed with that and let Master Chief's story end. 343 also fixed a lit of damages Bungie did for ignoring the books (Reach, Other spartans like the blue and and red team, fixing the Spartan 3 inconsistencies) and honestly in an overall lore stand point, 343 is doing incredibly well, and I see absolutely bo reason for them to continue Master Chief's story since they already have a lot of good characters that can actually be the new main character (Spartan Jerome, other Blue team spartans). 343 wanted a more narrative approach to halo and I don't mind, but Master Chief's story is over, his character arc is over. I think they should just write a new story or pick a different protagonist that isn't MC.
@cyfertea8707 They pay attention to Loar cause they want to milk Master chef & Halo for as much as they can Budgi cared more about the game play look I like loar but I don't really care about something will never see or play unless I can play it.Look what they did with Cortana we didn't even get to Finnish her off she just offed herself off screen no one cares about the loar enymore they just want a good game.
