Cubs Pitcher Kyle Hendricks Breaks Down His 81-Pitch Complete Game Shutout vs. the Cardinals

  • On May 3, 2019, Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks pitched a "Maddux," defined as a complete-game shutout on fewer than 100 pitches. Against the division rival Cardinals, Hendricks tossed just 81 pitches to complete the 4-0 Cubs win.
In this episode of The Breakdown, presented by CDW, hear from Hendricks, catcher Willson Contreras, pitching coach Tommy Hottovy and associate pitching, catching and strategy coach Mike Borzello as they walk you through the approach before and during the game. They discuss everything from the scouting report to pitch sequencing to how Hendricks has mastered the art of pitch tunneling and how it all came together in this historic performance.
"It was just one of those days where everything fell into place and everything worked. You don't get a lot of those so you really need to relish those moments." -Kyle Hendricks

Most underrated and underappreciated pitcher in the majors. Just because he doesn't throw upper 90's doesn't mean he isn't amazing. I actually prefer his way because he is precise with his craft

@@jonesbbqfootmassage2430 oh sorry! For some reason I was thinking that the W’s mean something. My bad. What do I know about baseball?
Kyle has historically achieved stats such as career ERA and innings pitched per outing that rank him among the best ever ... and again, how many mid-season classics?
Someone like Kyle has always been a silent factor. So quiet about taking care of business that most (likely yourself included) folks don’t know who he is and what he is accomplishing historically.

Cubs repeatedly make feature-length documentaries that ALL teams can enjoy (except maybe the Cards hahaha). This is exactly how teams should be marketing their players and exploits; videos like these will help the sport as a whole.
Between Ohtani bringing in foreign markets and making news headlines, Jomboy bringing baseball content to the masses with his featured breakdowns, and high quality productions like this, I'm very hopeful for the future of Baseball.
I brushed off Baseball until I was 23, and I'm 28 now. I missed my opportunity to see so much history being made, and am adamant about not missing out on anything else going forward.
Really cool video! I wish there were more teams willing to spend the capital on features like this.
