    So, the statue of Yuna with 'big horn on head' I think is a nod to the classic design for the summoner job in various Final Fantasy games. They often have some kind of headpiece with a horn (seen in Final Fantasy XIV recently but also IX and many older and off-main series entries). I thought that was a very sweet little 'easter egg'

    Never forget the power of hastega and slow. They last the entire fight if not dispelled. Getting more turns in and enemy getting less is really strong. Not to mention shell and protect :)

    • @vulcanh254

      Hastega is usually the best vs bosses because they're often immune to Slow or delay attack. And if the boss has to waste a turn just to cast dispel, that's a positive too.

    Kimahri's character has some great subtle story telling. Being the runt of the Ronso, he has to leave Mt. Gagazet to learn his own way of growing "strong". Ex: Lancet(learning techniques from fiends all around Spira) as well as being the one character that is encouraged to go his own way on the sphere grid(non-expert sphere grid). Unlike Biran and Yenke he doesn't inherently possess the physical prowess that all other Ronso do, therefore leaving the nest so to speak, to realize his own unique potential before returning home to prove himself worthy.

    • @LC-sc3en
      @LC-sc3en 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The other Ronso can use lancet too. Lulu (I think) explains copying of techniques as a Ronso ability. The two you fight use techniques that are learnable from fiends against Kinmahri except that don’t need overdrive to do so.
      This game is a bit unique compared to most of the FFs I have played in that a lot of the in game character development is subtle and character backstory reveals add the most depth.
      When they were children Kimahri being small had a complex and was constantly mouthing off and challenging the biggest kid to a fight. He was beaten over and over again but would never admit to having lost any of the battles. Honor is very important to Ronso. Biran, also being a kid eventually got so angry with this insult he broke Kimahri’s horn. Kimarhi goes off into the world in shame, grows stronger and wiser to the point the person always mouthing off is Biran whenever they meet.
      Biran hasn’t managed to move on from the past (and also probably guilt he had for the horn breaking). In my internet he is constantly goading Kimahri to get a rise out of him and justify the horn breaking by proving Kimahri hasn’t changed. Though it could also be to get Kimahri to fight again and finally prove himself or that he actually ended up missing Kimahri and their fights after Kimahri left the village.
      Kimahri beats Biran and quietly at that. He shows he has changed. So Biran does what Kimahri was supposed to do back when he was a child which is to honor and respect the strength of the victor. He also apologizes for the horn breaking showing either growth or a Ronso belief that isn’t a punishment that should be given to children.

    • @crafty87mc
      @crafty87mc 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@LC-sc3en Yes! You're right about Lancet, my mind completely glossed over that, thanks! I was just looking at the Ronso page on the Final Fantasy Wiki and the themes on power seems to hold up as well as traveling Spira to learn their own path.. *Spoilers for FFX-2* Heres an excerpt from the wiki page.. "Confused and angry, Garik demands that Kimahri tell the Ronso the path the tribe should take, but Kimahri has no answer and Garik rejects him as their leader. Through the example of young Ronso Lian and Ayde (who had traveled Spira in a vain attempt to fix Kimahri's broken horn), Kimahri sees that the Ronso have to travel and experience Spira to discover their path. After proving to Garik violence is not always the answer, the Ronso elder decides it is for each individual Ronso to decide their path to ensure the tribe's future." On a side note, alot of people compare Kimahri to a Blue Mage which is true, but dont see alot of people make the connection to Dragoons from past entries in the series due to Lancet and the Jump Ability. Thanks for the correction! 👍

    Seymor's dispel was washing off your protects (it removes your buffs), so protect was actually working (I think it cuts his damage by half, since Protect is for physical damage and Shell for magic). But he will keep on removing it with dispel
    Furthermore, you took less damage from his cross slash after because you raised your defenses with "cheer", since this skill deals physical damage.

    1 - If you use L2 and R2 you can skip pages rather than scrolling tediously through a large inventory and you can sort your equipment from the items menu.
    2 - Rikku's Mix can be used to combine 2 different ingredients rather than using the same 1 twice. Be adventurous with your combo's.

    So the reason why Dispel didn't work on Biran is because Dispel works against buffs, and Berserk is considered a debuff since even though it raises attack by 50%, it also makes it so a character only uses physical attacks and you cannot control them anymore. So instead, you could've used either Esuna or a Remedy to cure Biran. The armor with Berserk Ward protects your characters against getting inflicted with the Berserk debuff.

    • @armorvil
      @armorvil 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      the debuff=esuna vs buffs=dispel distinction isn't entirely correct as Dispel is what works to fix Slow (and Stop in other FFs), and things like Armor Break. This is one of those confusing things for anyone who didn't play older FFs to learn the mechanics progressively, from game to game. Maybe a better way to see this is that Dispel is for mental things while Esuna is for physical ailments? It's hard not to see Slow as some physical impairment though (I prefer to fix Slow with Haste anyway).

    • @Blirre
      @Blirre 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    That battle with Seymour is one of the most difficult fights of the entire game due to how overpowered he is. It's sort of like a level check to bring your party up to speed for what's to come. Even now, after all these years and so many playthroughs, I still get one or two game-over screens at that point, so no shame for you taking your time to learn the fight and finding your own unique way to beat him! So a note about the turn order- there are three things that determine turn order: the character or enemy’s speed stat, the “quickness” of their next action, and if the next action carries the “delay” status. Using an item or switching your weapons are quick actions and if it beats out the enemy’s speed you’ll get an extra turn. If you use a Delay Attack or Delay Buster that carries the Delay status which the enemy could be immune to.
    Valefore’s Sonic Wings is both a quick attack and carries the delay status, so sometimes it’ll show up as delaying the enemy’s turn in the turn order window, however if the enemy is immune to delay, you won’t always get that second turn and the enemy will go next.

      Also, your Seymour fight wasn’t too bad. You should have been a bit more persistent on putting up Protect and trying to dispel his and his reflect. At the very least it makes him waste a turn. But at the end of the day, that Stamina Tablet came in clutch and was a really smart move.

Normally, his Power/Armor/Magic/Mental Break skills have a probability of not working on enemies who are not immune to them, but Banishing Blade applies all 4 simultaneously with 100% chance of success, provided the enemy is susceptible to those ailments. Many many moons ago I learned the trick to getting through JRPGs faster is to grind, sounds like it should make you take longer, but just spending even 10-15 mins extra in each zone, makes the combats in all subsequent zones take less time, reduces the amount of times you die, gives you money to buy everything in one stop, and drastically cuts down on boss fight times.
      When I first started watching people playthrough games on youtube/twitch I was shocked that almost everyone just runs through each zone asap, a lot of people even just flee from most fights, then spend hours and hours on boss fights that took me 3 minutes my first time. My first play of this game hit credits around 30 hours and I've seen many streamer push up near the 100 hour territory.

    • @RAGEAlanBun
      @RAGEAlanBun 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Branderbieto be honest I do this because I find it more exciting playing that way.
      The way I see it is that grinding isn’t particularly fun since you’re fighting enemies you can easily beat, and by doing so it then makes subsequent fights easier and less strategic because you’re more powerful.
      I don’t necessarily miss every encounter, but I never grind or over-level as I find it more fun when the fights are more difficult and you need to come up with good tactics to win.

    Seymour Flux is in the top 10 of hardest bosses in FFX. What makes it hard is the introduction of anti-healing tactics with zombie without warning. Holy water had just been sold in the Calm Lands, but you have no natural spawning enemies to test the mechanics of zombie. So, Seymour coming in with Full-Life is understandable for casual players to freak out and panic because they have to learn by trial-and-error how zombie status works, and you're double fucked if you didn't buy 20+ holy waters.

    10:45 What is so great about nearing Zanarkand is that the player is placed in the same mind space as the party. Looking at Zanarkand with trepidation, and finality.
    15:16 With Final Fantasy in general it's obvious when you're past the point of no return, including the old ones. It won't show a message like in the modern games but you can tell by the narrative that it will be the final showdown.

    43:47 Haha, rewind. It was 3 turns.

    1:05:18 Wakka celebrates by laughing out loud!
    1:06:19 Heal, heal, heal after battles. Especially for characters in the yellow. Never too much healing!

    2:10:18 Good game.
    2:33:00 I can tell you're panicked because of all the mistakes (healing Tidus who's already at full health instead of Wakka) and all the wrong assumptions you're making.
    2:38:51 Auron going out the old Bushido way.

The other Aeons do not have an element so you need to teach them one of the Cure Spells. ALSO YOU CAN HEAL YOURSELF WITHOUT ITEMS. WHEN WALKING AROUND, GO TO ABILITIES AND GO TO CHARACTERS THAT CAN HEAL. ITS HIGHLIGHTED IN WHITE, SELECT IT AND CHOOSE ANOTHER CHARACTER! :)

    You did great to come up with a plan and execute! That's the one of the hardest fights in the game. Your biggest blind spot is buffs, which are huge in this game, especially haste.. You also keep saying the right thing then not doing it. You could have dispelled that reflect and protect, for example. Also, you can definitely sort your equipment. Main menu, go in the equipment screen, hit auto instead of manual. Items , too. Your sphere grid is fine.

      Sphere grid is totally not fine, but the main story game/fights all have been very forgiving so she hasn't been having that much difficulty. Only strong characters are Wakka, Lulu and Yuna (because of her aeons who are inherently strong). Rikku is pretty much a useless character, underleveled and going through one of the worst paths possible.
      She'll be fine anyway and what's important is that she's having fun, but let's not pretend her sphere grid choices are okay (generally speaking).

      @@D3vilK1ng the sphere grid is fine. Fine does not mean perfect. it means her struggles are not because of the sphere grid. This could not possibly be clearer in my post. Consider context instead of laser focusing on a single sentence.

      @@DrBretto and I replied to your "fine" statement, perfect was never in question so your remark on "clarity" and "context" are kind of ironic.
      If her sphere grid choices were fine she wouldn't have struggled this much against Seymour Flux, that's especially clear when you consider that without Wakka she would've had plenty more game overs in this fight.

      @@DrBretto I'll give you an even better one, the MVP of that fight was the one Stamina Tablet that she was lucky to find, without it I don't think she'd be able to win that fight without going back to farm levels.
