@@LegacyKillaHD hardly disastrous though is it? 7-9 isn't bad. It's averaged at above 80 on opencritic from over 50 reviewers. I don't care about DA, I like ME more but this doesn't seem like a disaster to me, especially given it's troubled development...
@@Jacksapeon Well he doesn't like the taste of shit. You love it. You can't help what tastes good to you.
Do you think ME4 is gonna get the same treatment? Given Andromeda and now this, I have unfortunately no hope for mass effect anymore.
I think it deserves a 5 max to be honest. Maybe less
Devs really should avoid arguing with people on social media. There’s no possible benefit from it.
The philosophy of business practices and public relations has been put aside to make room for feelings.
To bad some of em need to learn that the hard way.
“Oh but we need to fight against misinformation”
No you don’t. You put out an official statement if there is actually something serious enough to correct. Otherwise just interact in a positive way and let the community handle bad behavior if it needs to be addressed. There’s a reason to gatekeep.
They'll need the argumentative skills for when rude customers accuse them of not flipping enough burgers.
He's no longer a dev on the game his opinion is moot.
People were expecting a dark and edgy dragon age game, instead they got Disney slop
The artstyle made me think of disney immediately, and then i heard the dialogue!
Yeah your right that's why I'm not buying it
Honestly, I don't like either style. Dark and edgy, i.e. depressing, everything's grey and sad OR Disney/Marvel. At least put a twist on them. Because I'm tired of dark and edgy film/video game no. 34628 and Marvel film no. 44207. We've seen all these things before.
There are literally dozens of dark fantasy open world fantasy games that either came out or are coming out soon…
The artstyle reminds me of Fortnite actually
They made a huge mistake by giving a review code to SkillUp, lmao. SkillUp's review is the _reason_ why they didn't want to give review codes for people they didn't approve of. He gave an honest review. He's probably now on Bioware's blacklist.
This will be bioware's last game. SkillUp will outlive them most likely
skillup is a fraud, he saw the way the wind was blowing and is pandering to his audience.
He tends to be pretty generous with his reviews, letting stuff slide that others wont, he's also pretty progressive. Guessing they thought he would be a favourable reviewer.
yeah and every other review giving it good reviews are all lies, thats how reviews work.
Yep, though it’s hilarious to see the fanboi’s trying to say that “oh the majority of reviews are positive so Skillup must be wrong somewhere”.
Ffs they didn’t even bother hiding their shill.
"That Questline" Is refering to Taasha's questline where she comes out as Non-Binary to her parents at the dinner table and your character has to be present and supportive of her choice.
You cannot say that Taasha is being dumb, or offend her in any way and can only be supportive of her choice, and that is simply not how people work.
But that is how people are expected to work nowadays. Otherwise certain other people start throwing (insert random word)phobe around and see that as a win.
Imagine the world is on the brink of the end of times because of evil Gods and these people still think the most important thing is how they identify. In times like that there is no time to worry about small little amenities like that. It becomes about survival. It just makes it so ham fisted and unbelievable
@@albusdumbledore7727the fact that you can’t disagree with someone and the outcome is predetermined anyway is the exact opposite of a role playing game. Why didn’t they just make a linear game?

@@Apollyon04 I've read books. Lots of books and I've also read reviews, lots of reviews. I can spot an amateur writer and an amateur journalist several kilometers away just on the basis of how often they use phrases to convey thoughts, ideas, or images going between their brain cells and the conclusion I've found with gaming journalists as a whole is that they've cut their teeth in writing in closed circles with very little in the way of objective analysis by other colleagues outside their cliques. Leading me to believe that there are some who are the corporation's fluffer. Purely there to help a company, nothing more. Which is okay and perfectly fine. But since you outed yourself as referring to the above posters as 'see conspiracies everywhere', i.e. people who simply see patterns that are much more obvious on the surface, I take it you don't read that often, except for the opinions of others to fuel your own biases. Which is not healthy but nothing to worry about. Eventually you'll grow out of it and come to the conclusion of your own making... one day.

After watching the Skill Up review, I can’t help but feel like everyone saying good things are just shills.
either that or they are too young to remember playing actually GOOD bioware RPGs back in the day
I prefer Skillup's review of it. He gets down to the core of this Dragon Age game and says what we all thought about it. It's a game made with dialog as if HR is in the room. This game is literally made as if it was rated E for everyone, and that's just not Dragon Age.
It's because we live in the Feelings Age. Gotta cater to all the ones who weren't validated enough at home and weren't satisfied with their participation trophies.
that's the most disappointing thing. Dragon Age was a brutal dark fantasy game. If they wanted to make whatever this is, with such a gigantic tone shift, they should have started a new franchise, not destroy Dragon Age's memory
Turns out that when you only care about "inclusion" of minorities you end up excluding the majority. Who would've thought.
it just doesnt fit with the established tone of.... every other entry, i would liken this to the borderlands movies being pg13 instead of being m rating. the established franchise has been kind of dark for years, but they made it into guardians of the galaxy for some reason.
It isn't just the art style that is Disney-like. It's also the writing and the characters.
Part of the issue with the Qunari is the fact that everyone in this game has a massive head. So when you add this massive extra forehead and horns thing on top of it, it just looks ridiculous.
The other is that part that made the qunari, the qunari and not just large "horny" humans is almost entirely absent.
@@northstar6920Worst thing, they *had* a good Qunari design since DA2
They look like Gay demons
The Qunari used to look brutal, even in DA:O when they couldn't include the horns due to technical limitations.
Now they literally look like bad cosplayers.

"Like HR is in the room" - this might be the worst one liner feedback
The modern HR is a plague
Mr Matty also said that the dialogue looks like its been written by Disney, and has no place in Dragon Age.
I just can't get past the art direction. The stylization exists in this weird uncanny valley and needed to either be pushed towards realism, or pushed towards something more cartoony. It's just painful to look at.
I was facepalming since the video reveal released. Just what the fuck?
Skillup nailed it when he said they looked like characters taken right out of a Shrek movie (because that's EXACTLY what they look like!)
I agree whole heatedly. The character design feels like Fortnite, and I don't want Fortnite in my Dragon Age! It feels so off, I don't know if I will actually play this one.
Exactly, I can't imagine playing a whole game having to look at that.
For anyone intersted in the Skillup video. later in his video he shows many examples backing up each and every criticism.
The dialog clips alone made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

One of the most farcical aspects of these gaming companies (and Hollywood) is the misplaced belief that the customer OWES these companies something. That's not how commerce works. Unless you have a compelling, desirable product, the customer will not purchase. However these companies, when faced with diminished sales and dwindling audiences, act like jilted lovers and become hysterical. When the irony is,if they actually listened to feedback a lot of the issues could be avoided. Patronising, lecturing or arguing with your potential customers seldom goes well. They are businesses and commercial enterprises, you EARN your custom, we owe you nothing.
Exactly

Theyll write off all the negative reviews as "chuds" and "bigots" and call it a win despite not making the sales they wanted.
Just wait and see. "Our game was hamstringed by evil gamers"
This is as inevitable as the sun rising.
They can scream that all they want all the way to the EA's closed studios list for all i care
They need to put their woke back in the draw. The mainstream buys the games and the mainstream don't want identity agenda politics invading their hobbies. They've been screaming it pretty loudly for quite a while. Go woke, go broke.
Dragon Age: Veilguarding you from all things we deem offensive. 😂
This is the saddest news from yesterday: Turns out that the 1st Veilguard trailer did NOT set the wrong tone, it was exactly what the actual game offers. The rest was just damage control and perception manipulation.
Thank You Larian Studios for raising the bar on what makes a good RPG in today’s day of age of gaming. Now companies like BioWare don’t have an excuse.
Veilguard's writing would still have been atrocious 30 years ago.
I'm excited to not play this ever.
Since I never played any BioWare game, why break the streak now?
@@octavianpopescu4776the old ones are good. Jade empire is a fav of mine.

The HR comment was brutal ... and I work in MNC and can understand this in personal level
I don't get why studios think gamers want everything to play exactly the same. We want variety. We want creativity and quality. We want ips to retain what makes them special.
Anyone else expecting that "We are sorry to say..." letter from EA about Bioware sometime soon after this game releases?
Its long overdue, Bioware has been looooong dead. The devs that made magic are long gone
No, these people think they always in the right. Don't expect an apology from them
You can't be mean because they don't want you to offend anyone. Everyone's psyche and ego are about as durable as a wet paper towel these days.
Fr its so stupid ppl be sensitive as hellll
Yes, because being offended = lawsuits and scandals. That's a financial risk. It's not about being sensitive, as much as living in a sue-happy US society. Americans sue each other for the pettiest possible reasons. It's part of their national culture and it makes sense for a company to want to steer clear of that. There's always some American ready to sue you for tens of millions. They care a lot about reputation over there, so it's safer (although not always financially more profitable) to steer clear of scandal.
@@octavianpopescu4776 Can you think of any example of where Americans sued over feelings? They sue over labels not explaining that you shouldn't put glue in your hair, but feelings seems like a UK thing.
@@jesperburns I think of labels that have to explain extremely obvious things as "feelings". Although, it's not exactly the best word to describe it, it's the closest I can think of. Also keep in mind that I don't see "feelings" as a negative thing in general, if anything I see them as a positive. I'm not a "facts don't care about your feelings" kind of guy. But there is a balance to them.
Is it any wonder that so many of the OG's have left major studios in the past decade? The industry has become flooded with ppl who have never had to actually confront or resolve a difficult/unpleasant situation in their lives. They run straight to HR to complain about somebody, or take to social media to scream into an echo chamber about how cruel and unfair life is, and have other crybabies validate and reaffirm their position. They have everything their own way and told they were all special from a young age. Soft ppl makes for a soft society. This is why so much modern media is heavily sanitised. Almost everyone is afraid to make something that might possibly upset or offend somebody else. It's getting ridiculous.
The guy who said it was "the best Bioware game he's ever played" is either lying his ass off, or has played no other Bioware games before.
The second one. Also probably didn't even play it themselves, too busy being a fat turd on Reddit whilst their pink haired they/them mess partner smashes the controller with all the dexterous ability their diabetes allows.
Anyone that thinks Dragon Age The Veilguard, is the best entey in the series... is not someone whose a classic Bioware fan.
Its soooo much worse than the original... its not even close
Googling reviews about this and looking on reddit, this entire review season is completely astroturfed and controlled by EA. ALL major gaming outlets are singing its praises.
‘I scratch your back while you scratch mine.’
Meanwhile the ship is headed into an iceberg because no one is steering.
They are totally trying to gaslight people into thinking it is another BG3 or better.
Its Starfield all over again. Raving reviews at launch and a lot of hype being built up by marketing using influencers and TH-camrs, only for actual customers to realise that the game is not even at half of the level of expectations Bethesda itself set.
Now on Steam we finally starting to get the real ratings based on real users.
Its just so weird how this manipulation has no consequences to companies whatsoever.
Mortismal gave it a perfect score and said it was his personal game if the year... Bro how...
@DeeaA-d5r lol that's not loosing much
$$$.
a shame, he was my favourite reviewer until he started going more mainstream.
He's a sellout. He also took money for an "Unknown 9" video. Everyone saying "get that bag" with no care for integrity whatsoever. I unsubbed after that.
No surprise really, the guy has made numerous shill reviews ever since going full time.
He has also been caught out lying a number of times after falsely claiming to have 100% games.
That guy is too forgiving and he was exposed of cheating his 100% achievement on a game that is impossible to do so.
Sorry, man, but I can’t take anyone seriously that says dragon age is their game of the year over wukong, stellar blade, FF rebirth, DG2, like a dragon, space marine 2. How can you take anybody serious that says dragon Age is their game of the year lol
You can't. I'd guess anyone who says that likely only says it because it affirms their woke nonsense lol.
Exactly, I'm just without words that Mortismal said this game was his GOTY, I mean wtf??!!
I listened to the fextralife video, and then checked reviews. Even if I hadn’t I would have looked at those reviews and thought something was off. There were waaaay too many 9/10 or 10/10 and 5/5 reviews. I wanted the game to be good, but watching the prior videos and gameplay, there was no way this was ever a 10/10 game. It just isn’t. If the majority were 7 or 8s I would have considered it more realistic. It feels like they paid for good reviews, and that shows right now. I wanted the game to be good but it seems like they botched it again.
@@georgen5882 exactly my guy, I would have believed if they gave the game a 7 or 8/10, but this is not 10/10 material.

I love how in the first game, my lover, Alistair, had to be pimped out to Morrigan to make a soul catching baby to save one of our lives….then in the end i couldn’t even marry him since my character was an Elf and he was royalty.
Now no one is ever mad and everyone acts like a cartoon character….wtf happened?
Always remember false positivity will cost you money. Critical reviews can save you money. We’re consumers not friends of the developers
The random "This is the best Dragon Age game" review by Mortismal really has me confused.
Someone, somewhere, is lying through they're teeth.
We'll find out on the 31st.
I'm fairly sure it's Mortismal too. The evidence posted by Skillup is all I really need to see and hear that the dialogue is childish and the gameplay repetitive.
@@Kylesico912x That dialogue was GRUESOME! Legitimately, a first grader could come up with something better!
I'm honestly baffled about morts review. He's a pretty dry, straightforward guy and hearing him say it's the best in the series and GOTY was definitely a head scratcher. I've seen him be pretty scathing in reviews so idk
He clearly shilled. His review sounds so fake and forced. "Game of the year" at the end was nail in the coffin and unsubscribed. I don't like shills.
I enjoyed mortismal's content before. Now he has proven himself willing to lie for access.
There are bots all over the comments of any of the channels whom gave the game a negative review. All spamming the same positive talking points in the replies. Seems BioWare are really on the defensive.
Same exact thing with Silent Hill 2 remake.
It's life or death for them.
I agree with the comments below, they turned a dark fantasy game into a Disney movie.
Mortismal does great game guides, but his reviews are all pure shills.
he gave this GOTY and said the same about Starfield. He often shows extreme greed form things he says and such people are easy to control.
He's a 100% shilling
Flintlock,Unknown 9, Capes,Starfield,DA4... I can take 1 mistake from time to time but he's just as bad as mainstream media at this point.
I seem to remember Mortismal also saying Pathfinder is superior to Baldur's Gate 3. Unsubbed right then.
@@RansomMemoryAccess I love Pathfinder 2 and BG3 equally, and I have spent about 700 hours on both. Pathfinder's system is infinitely superior, but BG3 is just a work of art.

Narcissistic, entitled, insecure, self obsessed, desperate attention, seeking agenda, pushing, and reiterating individuals made veilguard.

Very well put!
It's clear that this game was made for the tumblr fans who were only in it for the romance. Which was only part of the greater whole before but now it's the main focus.
Man, some of that dialogue is so immersion breaking. It’s so doesn’t sound like a dark fantasy game. It sounds like like a sensitivity reading you have at a Google meeting. Or it sounds like a woke 21st-century western TV show about teenagers going to school. How the fuck is this even dragon age lol
It isn't. It was written by people that would never ever have the imagination to create something like Dragon Age, middling as the original was in the creativity department. Just complete parasites living in their little bubble and pushing their petty personal crusades on the back of a work created by much more talented people.
Ralph's review is spot on, I just wished he hadn't subjected us to so much interminably awful and insipid dialogue. But then he had to suffer it for fifty hours. What you thought it would be once seeing the reveal is exactly what it is
WhatCulture Gaming...
Yeah, nah, i unsubed from obvious shills...
Which one(s) do you think are/is legit?
They could give it a 20/10 and I still wouldn't buy it. I suspect I'm not alone, but we'll see.
rumors are that the game was originally live service slop, then when it became clear that a live service iteration would get destroyed by the customer base, they quickly shifted gears to try to turn it back into single player, but the damage was already done. that's why it feels like a guardians of the galaxy/fortnite HR approved Disney version of an action adventure game, not a dark fantasy RPG.
Fallout 76 despite it horrible launch had a well established fan base and over time it correct course and is still going strong to this day. BioWare’s Anthem had none of this and that’s why it didn’t even last 2 years. And both games are live service games.
Monster Hunter Wilds beta is gonna run this game over at launch 😂

Monster Hunter, Stalker 2, Path of Exile 2, Indiana Jones, Legacy of Kain remastered.. this game might get forgotten really quickly indeed.
What this game feels like to me is probably exactly what it is: a singleplayer action RPG shoehorned into what was already a live service title. Too much about this screams, "live service" or "mobile game" to me.
I'm getting this vibe with the level design and generic puzzles
Well it was designed to be a live service i believe. They scrap that and make this.
Now we can see why Devs were crying about Baldur's Gate 3 raising the RPG bar
They are not even remotely close to it
"You can ignore the choices you dont want in the character creator." Okay so why not give us big tiddy options and then people who want to ignore that will ignore that. Why this double standard?
I feel like Matty and Skillup hitting them with a negative is pretty fucking huge. Those are probably the 2 biggest names reviewing it right now.
I’m hoping this opens up some eyes. Some of these reviews are just too high for what we have all now seen with our own eyes.
Skill up also said MC Dungeons is bad. But it's the best MC game. 🙄
Skill up is a shill so this is surprising.
Matty just sounds broken in his newer videos, someone's gotta show him some good indie games.

Funny how there’s a collage floating out there pointing out how lots of reviews have similar wording. Bet they were all fed talking points to cover, makes it easier to see who got paid for a glowing review.
Doing their best to not give review codes to people they think would be critical is such an INSANE decision.

Its like one of those devs, that makes his own NPC characters selfinserts just for cucking the main protag potential love interests.
Yup
If Matty talks bad about a game, you truly know it’s not very good lol. He has always been extremely level headed and tame when it comes to his reviews.
That is why his final reaction matters. Every time he talked about it, he seemed like he thought it had a shot and hoped it would be good. But it just let him down in the end.
Id probably enjoy it as a generic action rpg. But i can't play game called dragon age that isnt dragon age anymore(the reasons are many) and its even missing a crucial rpg element actual moral choices, from i gathered, its at most different flavors of good. All the greatest rpgs in history, you can from angel to serial killer to anyone in between, which is especially ironic considering bioware was responsible for many of those games and setting the standard.
One of the biggest reason I stay away from modern games is the writing. All the characters in the game end up talking and acting the same. They are all sarcastic, and insanely shallow.
It is honestly not much of a surprise if you took time to listen to how millennials speak to each other growing up. Real deep friendships left a generation before them. Now everything is media driven. So people are extremely shallow, emotionally and mentally unstable and more than a bit narcissistic.
You’ve got the generations wrong again. I’m a millennial and I remember BioWare in its prime, from Neverwinter Nights and Baldur’s Gate 1, Star Wars: KOTOR and Star Wars: TOR and these games were made with Millenials in mind.
I remember when I could convince Zaalbar to betray and kill Mission so that my evil character could get rid of a super-good character without having to dirty his hands...
Dude, I’m pretty sure everyone shitting on veilguard is a millennial.
Jesus. You're talking about gen z. Millenials are fully grown adults now and most of the people tearing VG down are millenials who grew up playing origins.
Millennials are older than you think, I’m 30 and considered a millennial. Grew up without the internet and got my first smartphone at 17. All of the negative reviewers are millennials…
What is it with modern games just doesn’t have any form of edginess or dark writing anymore I’m so tired of everything being so soft

Watched mortissamers. He said 2 playthroughs you could see every meaningful story option, every story problem or map puzzle can most easily be handled by just smashing it/them..... yet still should be a goty contender as an rpg..... very very sus.
