My favorite joke of the whole Evil Dead franchise came during the commentary track of "Army of Darkness". Bruce Campbell was telling the story about him riding a horse right on the edge of a cliff. Somebody asked Rami if it was too dangerous. He replied "Naw. We can get another horse."
I really appreciate that you not only show the scenes they are commenting on, you do a good job of highlighting specific details they mention and also inserting clips from other movies. I also love the oddball stuff you put in, like the UK Evil Dead 2 commercial. Really great work.

Mike's story of realizing the absurdity of the situation halfway through buying autographs at a mismanaged horror convention and just quitting is perfect.
The last couple episodes of season two really lost the thread, though. So much so that they had a character openly say that it made no sense, was bad, and that they were going to ignore it and pretend like it never happened, which was actually pretty funny even though it didn't make up for it.
I worked on Evil Dead: The Musical in Toronto, where it started. My favourite thing was to stand in the back of the theatre and watch the audience quote along with their favourite lines, some of them quietly, like they were repeating lines in church, some of them ecstatically. The "This is my BOOMSTICK!" speech would really get them going, but there are so many good lines in the third film. The regular folks who follow theatre and who would show up because it was getting good reviews would be baffled. I saw one lady complain that she got splashed with blood. Ma'am, the first 4 rows paid extra for that privilege. I miss that show...
I will always remember that this was how I first got introduced to the Evil Dead Series. I was 15, waiting for my friend and his dad to pick me up for the movies, channel surfing. I hit the Sci-Fi channel and basically watched from the Monster Pit fight scene to the 'Bad Ash' fight and I was so confused and enthralled at the same time. I had no idea what the film was called and I was explaining it all to my friend on a car ride and his dad chimes in 'Oh yeah, that's Army of Darkness! Great movie.' Army of Darkness is still my favorite for just how utterly unique it is in style and tone - It's so much fun.
That’s the best way to discover a movie like this, almost out of boredom. When I was a kid my older sister had really cool weirdo friends who loved cult movies, and they lent her a copy of Army of Darkness. I watched it one day because it seemed interesting, and was totally blown away. It left a much bigger impression on me than if i’d watched it because someone had told me it was great.
Yep. Same thing happened to me. I remembered the trailer from years prior, (this was roughly '96 - I was 12, just starting to get into bloody horror, but LOVED old monster movies since I was a kid. I was watching Killer Klowns and MonsterVision in the 5th grade) and Army was premiering on Encore. It was one of the first full nights I ever had the house to myself, I had a pizza, and watched the most amazing movie I had ever seen. When I found out about the prequels, I spent a whole summer imagining them just as big as Army was. i was honestly a bit disappointed when I finally saw just how much lower budget they were. But I was not surprised, and grew to love them.
Tom Sullivan really should've given Mike a page from the Necronomicon as a reward. I'm sure he would've taken excellent care of it just like he's doing with those Gremlins!
I always like the idea that Ash just snapped after being thrown into the pit. He killed his girlfriend (twice,) he killed his friends, his sister, let everyone around him get killed, was thrown through time, and branded a war criminal. When he crawls out of the pit, his mind is gone. "Who wants some?" We're watching him essentially give up with trying to be a decent person. He has become the Ash we know and love, and he just. Stopped. Caring. (granted, it shines through every once in a while that he'll try to do the right thing.) It's even more evident in AvED, he speaks and acts like someone who doesn't care anymore. Why should he? Everyone around him doesn't matter. The rules of life don't matter. He could die tomorrow, so he's gonna be honest and selfish with everyone. Edit: (I never meant to imply that he just went from normal to crazy in one scene. he was losing it through all three movies. I just like to think that "the pit" was the final straw that snapped him and he never really came back.)
Also everyone he knows and loves dies. So between army of darkness and AVED, he has cut off or self sabotaged every personal relationship. Without actually saying it, AVED essentially shows ash as having ptsd, as well as survivors guilt. He basically hasnt been able to sit still or maintain any healthy relationship since. Despite the evil not showing itself since Army, ash has been "on the run", living temporarily in trailer parks, constantly moving and starting over across michigan. And yet he doesnt leave michigan, because hes emotionally anchored to the state by everyone he grieves
I do love that Sam Raimi still has all his visual flair. I loved the spectacular nonsense that was Multiverse of Madness, it had so much Raimi goodness, and I completely understand how some people that disparage it are clearly not in on the joke. I mean, you have zombie Dr. Strange with half his jaw falling off delivering the final emotional motivational speech, how much more Sam Raimi can you get in a mainstream movie.
This video is a work of art and should be recognized by the academy as one of the best short films of the year (I'm not joking, i actually wish it were possible)
I can't believe Mike missed one of my favorite TNG trivia facts. Patricia, the hag that is a stunt woman, was in a bunch of TNG episodes!! She was all kinds of aliens and was a security officer in one or two as a human.
I am equally disappointed in Mike on this one. After years of hearing Mike make endless Star Trek references, and having never watched the show myself, I've concluded that Mike is not actually a fan of Star Trek and just looks up the wiki to *try* increase his credibility. It was all a ploy to swindle contemptible schmucks like me who don't know fact from fiction. Very disappointed, Mike, you hack fraud. #redbebettermedia

Not as big as something like Lost, but it did very well. Then Ash Vs. The Evil Dead, and the numerous other things he did that has kept him a commonly seen figure in entertainment media. I like to imagine that his success is actually a big part of why when you see him speaking at events he doesn't get bothered by the 100,000th person asking when the next Evil Dead film is getting made. He just looks like nothing bothers him, probably because he's a fucking baller who has somehow been handsome AND rich without becoming a total piece of shit. Wow!
@@BanyaBat Hey, appreciate you taking the time to respond! You really edited the shit outta this making it inviting for repeated viewings & the effort is most appreciated! Look forward to checking out more of your stuff, take care!
53:39 Wow! There's a scene in The Two Towers where Saruman pushes away a candle from some explosive powder when Grima gets too close! It's like a mirror of that scene with Ash and Elaine's boss from 51:57... neat!
I used to rent this as a kid in my local video store, didn't have any idea it was related to Evil Dead or knew what that was, and I loved it. The mixture of adventure, gore and comedy to me was spot on. Loved those skeletons too!
I saw Army of Darkness in the theater when it came out not knowing anything about Bruce Campbell or the Evil Dead. The best part was the audience’s reaction at 14:42. When he caught the chainsaw with his stump, the first five rows in the theater _exploded._ Professional level football games aren’t celebrated as enthusiastically. I had no idea what was going on but I felt like I was part of something special.
I just wanted to point out that they mentioned the "Your shoelace is untied" and other modern stuff to ye old people, and in the Evil Dead game, one of King Arthur's line is "Thine shoelace is untied" and Henry says he's a Fancypants, too.
My dude this is absolutely excellent - your comedic timing and also cuts to interesting outside information that RLM allude to really makes the commentary zing, always excited to see your new vids!
Great job with these edits. Each new video of yours is better than the last. So many references. The use of George C. Scott is my favorite. **EDIT** No, Mike getting 3 autographs of the 4 main actors from Dawn of the Dead, and not only not caring enough to get the last one while he was there, but having no regret about it later on both beautifully and perfectly sums up Mike as a person.
i actually really like the mini-ash scene. not in the sense that its right for the movie or really holds up to scrutiny, its just a really fun premise to me. i love the goofiness. i could totally watch a short of bruce campbell just fighting 5 miniature versions of himself for 20 minutes like its a warner brothers cartoon
I watched Army of Darkness at a young age on tv. Only later I learned it's the sequel to the ominous Evil Dead movies, who were banned at the time in Germany, which made seeking them out all the more exciting!
I love the little asides/non sequiturs, they really add so much to the commentary. I bet that took a lot of extra effort, but it's very much appreciated!
I was a kid when I saw Army of Darkness and I love it to this day. I never saw Evil Dead till much later in life but I still have a spot in my heart for AoD.
51:57 Did Peter Jackson directly referenced that scene in Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers? There's a scene between Saruman and Grima that's shot and framed in the exact same way, it must be a nod!
I've listened to this track a couple times before. The addition of the references and behind the scenes track is a great addition. Rich's 'it's fine' counter just shows how much this movie gets away with suspension of disbelief, like I also had a similar experience when watching this for the first time in the 90's I just stumbled on this on a TV showng. I didn't care how many errors or goofiness it had coz it more than makes up for it.
I know the compliments for the edits and asides are already here - but it's still really well done. Not too much - not too little - and it adds to the content nicely. You should offer your services to RLM. They'd kill for this level of talent for additional videos.
I gotta say, I'm a huge fan of these. It's like a plinkett review, in that things being said corelate to footage shown. It's also like a best of the worst since it's the boys talking movies. Those additional edits you put in yourself are also great. Kudos!

So, I've no idea if it was intentional or not, my head-cannon for Ash getting dumber & more arrogant as the franchise progressed is that every time he faces the demons and/or gets possessed he loses a little bit more of his mind It explains his progression in a meaningful way to me
Yessir. We've been chatting about this on here. In fact, I'm starting to wonder if there's a direct correlation between Ash's state of mind, and the Evil Force becoming more and more silly in it's approach to possession and manipulation.
Honestly, that would make a great scene in some future episode/movie. A knowledgeable person explaining the deadite and necronomicon effects.. Maybe a scene where they are walking past rooms of progressively more insane people and they describe how the longest someone has kept their sanity was like a few weeks. Cut to an uncomfortable Ash who just wants to quickly move on past it, lol.
I was unfortunate enough to have never seen any of the Evil Dead films up until this point. I had a buddy that recommended them when we were like 11 or 12, but never got around to watching them. I saw this in the theater and it really got me into the series and Sam Raimi after the fact.
1:08:05 I feel I should point out that Duke Nukem isn't the only Build Engine FPS protagonist to take a few lines from Ash Williams. Caleb from BLOOD also has a few, like I know he says "Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun" at one point.

53:39 Wow! There's a scene in The Two Towers where Saruman pushes away a candle from some explosive powder when Grima gets too close! It's like a mirror of that scene with Ash and Elaine's boss from 51:57... neat!
I noticed that, too. An homage by Peter Jackson?
I used to rent this as a kid in my local video store, didn't have any idea it was related to Evil Dead or knew what that was, and I loved it. The mixture of adventure, gore and comedy to me was spot on. Loved those skeletons too!
The medieval english castle being in the desert made sense to me as a kid. I just assumed the kingdom was war torn and cursed.
I assumed the castle was in Spain or the Middle East during the crusades
Me too, I always thought the desert was because the Evil simply ruined the land.
Really appreciate the Norm Macdonald clip making a mockery of YT’s biggest award show lol
I didn't listen to this earlier specifically hoping you'd make an edit. Jackpot! Your stuff is gold.
Thanks! Hope you enjoyed it!
Excellent job. These longer edits are truly transformative and fantastic pieces.
Thanks, Kristen... If you haven't subscribed and caught up on all my other edits, please do!: th-cam.com/channels/k1jbdRuPM7WCgl9RPX-roQ.html
The way this is edited really adds a lot of insight!
You are the king, baby!
Glad you're still at it. Love your edits!
Cheers, Roy!
That's great to hear, cheers dude! If you've missed any of my other edits, you can find them all here: th-cam.com/users/BanyaBatvideos
Glad you've been enjoying them, dude!
BanyaBat hits it out of the park with another great edit. keep it up!
Cheers, glad you liked it!
i actually really like the mini-ash scene. not in the sense that its right for the movie or really holds up to scrutiny, its just a really fun premise to me. i love the goofiness. i could totally watch a short of bruce campbell just fighting 5 miniature versions of himself for 20 minutes like its a warner brothers cartoon
thank banya for editing in context clips and the like because that is a real step above that improves the viewing experience. good stuff
Cheers, glad you're enjoying them!
I watched Army of Darkness at a young age on tv. Only later I learned it's the sequel to the ominous Evil Dead movies, who were banned at the time in Germany, which made seeking them out all the more exciting!
I love all 3 Evil Dead movies. For different reasons though.
I hope this guy makes more RLM edits, they are awesome!!
the final fight scene with Goblin in Raimi's Spiderman is so visceral. Just a great highlight of how Raimi makes a film feel so kinetic.
The hack frauds must smile upon you BanyaBat, amazing editing!
I love the stuff you do
and the fact you ended up in one of the latest OSW videos as a credit...amazing
Cheers, Paul! Nice to hear you spotted me there!
I love the little asides/non sequiturs, they really add so much to the commentary. I bet that took a lot of extra effort, but it's very much appreciated!
Thanks! That's lovely to hear!... More of my edits here if you enjoyed this: th-cam.com/channels/k1jbdRuPM7WCgl9RPX-roQ.html
I was a kid when I saw Army of Darkness and I love it to this day. I never saw Evil Dead till much later in life but I still have a spot in my heart for AoD.
The exact one I was hoping you would edit. THANK YOU!
Hope you enjoyed it!
51:57 Did Peter Jackson directly referenced that scene in Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers? There's a scene between Saruman and Grima that's shot and framed in the exact same way, it must be a nod!
Holy shit, they point that out two minutes later! XD
Banya Bat is the editing king. I love the channel and have been waiting for another big release like BM & Robin. Thanks man, love your work.
Thanks, Mike... Give some ofmy Smersh Pod edits a watch if you haven't yet, they might be up your street: th-cam.com/video/efFfrTFbd90/w-d-xo.html
I've enjoyed watching these. Didn't even know about this type RLM content until I recently found this channel.
Oh, and I see people who know editing are complementing yours, so that's also appreciated.
This is brilliant, thanks BanyaBat
Funniest part is the poster of the Medieval Dead release in the UK and Ireland showing Bruce Campbell as buff as Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan.
Kudos!
That's insanely flattering, thanks Luca!
This is genuinely great. Enough to satisfy but not enough to make me go "I shouldn't get the full commentary." Bravo!
BanyaBat has been killing it recently!
Another hilariously edited and researched video!
Your videos deserve way more views, bro.
Glad you've been enjoying the recent ones!
What up Scarlett Brohanssen. Just wanted to say you do REALLY good edits man! With all the extra funny/informative stuff you add that also coincides with what they're talking about in the commentary, I seriously look forward to these RLM commentaries so much, thanks man!
Cheers, glad you're enjoying them!... be sure to give some of my similar Smersh Pod edits a spin if you haven't yet!: th-cam.com/video/efFfrTFbd90/w-d-xo.html
P.S. The Spiderman/Mike Stalklassasahsjdsj hero cameraman scene was borderline genius editing considering Sam rami directed both that and this Evil dead movie and it worked perfectly with the story being told.
@@BanyaBat : Ya, for sure dude
What a glorious way to end the week!!Thank you for putting this gem together...subscribed!!!
Thanks! If you haven't seen my other RLM (th-cam.com/video/piZ-yfBuFec/w-d-xo.html) or Smersh Pod edits (th-cam.com/video/6Hq2SoAsWng/w-d-xo.html), I hope you enjoy 'em!
This was the very first film in the Evil Dead franchise I had ever seen. My grandpa was super into horror when I was a kid and he showed me this before I had ever seen Evil Dead 1 or 2, and man even for a 5 year old who hated horror something about this movie just got me.
RIP Grandpa Mike! Thanks for giving me your same taste in horror
Amazing! Been waiting for this gem.
Hope it lived up to the hype!
The editing is done so well and I appreciate all your work on extra notes.
these edits are really entertaining man, keep up the good work
16:57 I remember seeing ads for this movie in EVERY comic book, for months leading up to the release. I ended up seeing it as a VHS rental a year or 2 later, and I’d never even heard of Evil Dead until well after _that…_
I absolutely fucking love these edits. Amazing work, and please keep doing them!
Cheers, Barry! If there's any you've missed, give them a watch here!: th-cam.com/users/BanyaBatvideos
That "Young Jay watching Evil Dead" edit...
(kiss noise.) Magnifique.
haha, def made me laugh^^
Niceone with discovering the pottery sound-effect origin, that was an interesting nibblet of trivia
I'd just rewatched *Little Shop of Horrors* (from 86) last month too 😸_👍
Very nice work!
Cheers!
Yayyyy Banya dropping the hotness as usual with your killer ass edits. Awesome work bro! Btw your 007 podcasts are great too.
Thanks! For anyone reading that hasn't seen some of the Bond videos referred to, check some out here!: th-cam.com/users/BanyaBatvideos
This is just phenomenal. And excellent use of that clip from 'Spaced'.
RLM is already good, but your edit are really making it reach another level!
Too kind!
RLM edits are a valid artistic medium
You have no idea how happy I am to see this ❤️
Hope you enjoy it!
This is great stuff, very intense editing for such a long video
The whopper button edit was awesome
I love how well this fits with the rest of the RLM channel, like it was one of the guys with a side gig. Amazing editing.
Very flattering! Thanks, Andres!
Great editing as always Banya, thanks!
Cheers, Iggy!
1:03:40 Yes! That break in the music always worked wonders for the climax of the first Spider-Man! Actually breath taking
So excited to see another of your RLM commentaries, you do amazing work👍. I also really appreciated the use of Blade Runner clips as well 😁
Thanks, sir
I've always seen your videos in my recommendations, but this is the first time I've actually watched one of them. I'm glad I did, and now I have to go back and watch all your other RLM videos.
Thanks for giving me a go, Ben! Once you've sampled all my RLM edits, be sure to give the Smersh Pod videos a spin too: th-cam.com/users/BanyaBatvideos
So, I've no idea if it was intentional or not, my head-cannon for Ash getting dumber & more arrogant as the franchise progressed is that every time he faces the demons and/or gets possessed he loses a little bit more of his mind
It explains his progression in a meaningful way to me
I like this. A lot. 😁
Yessir. We've been chatting about this on here. In fact, I'm starting to wonder if there's a direct correlation between Ash's state of mind, and the Evil Force becoming more and more silly in it's approach to possession and manipulation.
Also? Head injuries. Ash gets hit in the head CONSTANTLY. Those add up.
It also had dismembered hands and little clones of the protagonist as enemies
I live... again!
I truly appreciate your work on editing these tracks. Everyone else has said the rest.
Great work 👍🏻
God damnit, you really put the effort into these, love it!
Thanks, Nick!
