- “That Bias knob is everything,” says Queens of the Stone Age bassist Michael Schuman, pointing at his Dirt Transmitter. Since discovering the Dirt Transmitter as a suitable stompbox replacement for the timeless sound of the Ampex 351 preamp, it has earned a place in his rig in with both QOTSA and his band Mini Mansions.

Dude has probably the best rock (not metal) tone of these times. Admire his work as the heat of this rhythm section.
Nope.
Absolutely true, Mikeys tone and playing is godlike
I'd give that title to the guys in Failure. But QOTSA aren't far behind.
Nope. Listen to The Jesus Lizard. Best bass tone on the planet. Also one of the best bands ever!!
@@chronic_johnson_a.r.a.b Edwards’ bass tone is absolutely godlike. Love his tone.
Mikey is an absolute legend, love all the work he's done with QOTSA and his project Mini Mansions, too. Really love the insight this series brings, EQD!
@John Joseph bass strings
@@RayyanKhanRayyanKhan Yeah. Four, I think.
i love when mikey talks about his basses and his equipment. he seems very genuine about it
Mikey shoes is such a badass! His bass tone is amazing and his backing vocals make them so full live… hell yeah!!
The bass on Villains is my favorite Bass tone I've heard. Especially on "Domesticated animals" and "feet don't fail me now"
"Certain fingers on a certain bass, that's what create most of the sounds." That's so true, it's rarely about the extra gear in the end !
FSBass and yet there are so many of these videos.
I can't say how much I love this man
same
The production IS amazing. Thank you for showing the pedal thumbnails. LOVE THAT FEATURE!
Every gear video from Queens is just a master class. Love it!
thank you!
Loved the bass on villains. A very underrated album.
underrated by whom??
Mikey's playing (as well as Josh's singing) finally came to the front on Villains, about damn time
One of my favorite bass players. His punchy tones are awesome and I love the way the bass does expected things
More Bass Boards please!
This was super helpful honestly as a QOTSA fan and a bass player this video is great
Great bass player. Perfect fit for the QOTSA. All there members have been awesome musicians. Rock on . Yeah that C tuning makes my strings kinda AWESOME. 🤘🤘
When I saw them in Portland ME Mikey came down to the crowd at the beginning of Song for the Dead and ended up leaning his full weight on me as I held him up. Which base is that?
Mike Taffet That's a home run for me, holy shit!
I have a picture I found somewhere of that saved on my phone!
at least second base for sure! ;D
Cool story. 👍
Tremendo el sonido que logra en vivo ! un maestro Miguel
I think the moment he mentioned where they all use the EHX Mel9 is the interlude in Unreborn Again to imitate the sound of a string section
Thanks EQD for this
thanks for watching!
I say this everytime but these are the best videos. Ever.
You got Troy and Mikey....I say Dean next....by then you betta convince Josh....ha
Josh won’t give secrets away even though they aren’t secrets.
@@DiamondLifer Josh has a secret, he cannot say
Thanks for this EQD!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching, Casey!
Happy Birthday Mike!
9 and a half today!
Kinda curious about the Digitech Nautila Chorus. he didnt mention it in the video
mikey is the bass player, mojo man, back up singer in a villain ass rock band come true. would like to hear the solo bass tracks in the songs he made
what pino paladino is to Trent is like what Mikey is to Josh. they just fit
alright now im ready for my boi dean to show off his keyboard pedals
Does anybody have a clue on what settings he uses on the Dirt Transmitter?
Dirt transmitter has a gate built in. It's dead quiet.
Great video!
He forgot to mention the Digitech Nautila (Chorus/Flanger)
David Kronzek in which song does he use that?
Štěpán Havel I would say Hideaway from Villains, he recorded the track with a fretless bass. Some say you can fake the sound of a fretless using a chorus pedal
please lord say you filmed one of these with josh.
Josh ain't got time for that. He did offer us flu shots, though, which was super nice of him. And no, I don't think it was code for drugs.
I'd snort a fucking flu shot from Homme ;)
Cv control via the René sequencer
The Dean one, if there's a Dean one, is gonna be fuckin good
Who's using those Peavys at 4:27?
Josh was using those on the villains tour
WIRES ON FIRE
In wich song they use the Mell9? :'(
Un Reborn Again
What about the Nautila?
song at 0:15?
Domesticated Animals
Someone knows in which song he use the Mel9 from EHX?
Yeah definitely Un Reborn, but I remember hearing some of them use it in Feet Don’t Fail Me too
If they got Josh Homme I would jizz my pants.
that seems a little extreme to me, but hey, what do i know?
Also he’s pretty tight lipped about his gear.
That is why they didn't get Josh Homme... ; )
he used to be but not really anymore
Regarding EQD pedals: Josh uses the tentacle ;)
dean, dean, dean, dean, dean, dean,
What amp does he use?
Ghastly Ghoul Fender Super Bassman and Guild Maverick
Nick Oliveri and his screams 🤟
I love a fuckin gate
can i get uhhh josh homme board to death?
uhhhhhh yeah i dunno
There's a bigger chance of Hendrix resurrecting hahahaahahahaha
(or res-erecting, if you will)
Anyone else lonely as shit today? All day TH-cam wormhole. Damn I'm sad.
But what about JJJJJOOOOOSSSSSHHHHH!?!?!?!?!?
There are loads of videos online about the pedals and setup he uses.
didnt know andy samberg plays bass
who needs a pedal ? hahaa... it's an addiction man, admit it... you have pedal problems
