Those 80s and up mustangs would beat almost all the 60s 70s muscle cars if they were stock. Even my first car beat most of them. 69 javelin sst

@@robertfandel9442 yes, you’re right, but it was most of the run of the mill muscle cars which were 14 second cars just like the 5.0 Mustangs.
They couldn’t mess with the 13 second big dogs like the 455 GS, 426 HEMI, 440-6 and 454 LS6 cars.
The 5.7 IROC-Z and Formula 350 cars were also low 14 sec capable.
Back in the summer of 1988 my Chevelle was beat by a brand new Formula 350 on I-66 outside Manassas, Virginia. That opened my eyes to the mid-late ‘80s cars.

I wouldnt say the 5.0 Mustang was any faster than the old muscle cars be either way it would be close, Javelin wasnt any faster than the AMX and only the 390 had any punch at all.

When I was a kid in early 90's my uncle had a 1990 Zr1, it was funny how many people in early muscle cars would try to run him from a roll. There were so few that would even hang and if they did by 110mph they fell on their face. I think most had no clue what a Zr1 was and thought they were racing an old crossfire injected vette

Will let me tell you something Robert! I own a 73 T/A SD-455 4sp Buccaneer red that i had since 79 when i bought, all original and stock with 310 HP. Every 80's car that i raced, Z28's 5.0 Mustangs and Corvettes, never and i mean never one of them got even close to my T/A... All they saw was, my rear bumper. Sorry to disappoint you, but, SD-455 are mean racing machines, specially when tuned properly. Really proud and very lucky to own one and at 65 years old i still own this beauty.... ✌

I'm class of 87. Lifelong hotrodder, dirt oval racer and engine machinist/shop owner. I remember, back in mid to late 80s, all us hotrodders knew the 3 cars in town that ran 13.9s and 1 that ran 13.3 at 105mph in quarter mile. We had about 8 cars in the 14s. Most people were mid 15s with the hotrods at 92 -95 ish mph., while burning 1 tire and pulling 308 rear gears. The 14s cars had 3.73-411 which was the popular gear, if changing. Only a few cars had good stall converters, and again, it was big if you had 1 and word of mouth was our internet (to go along with our pagers, in a drawer I still have a few). We had 1 chevelle, a 1967. Built roller 355, 125 nitrous shot on top of that. With ladder bars and slicks it ran 10.80s and like 1150s on motor. EVERYBODY KNEW THAT CAR IN OUR SURROUNDING 8 TOWNS.😅😂😊

@@guysteel I owned quite a few 5.0 Mustangs, a 5.7 IROC-Z, a Formula 350, a few 5.0 L69 Camaros and a few 5.0 LB9 Camaros. I actually managed to get the 5.7 IROC-Z to dyno (to the wheels) 274hp / 306tq and ran 13.6 with the factory heads, factory cam and factory intake and factory 3.23 gears. I installed full exhaust, with headman headers, hollowed out the factory Corvette catalyst, and installed a Flowmaster cat-back, Marches underdrive pulleys, Hypertech thermomaster chip with a Hypertech cool fan switch and 160* thermostat (the car ran soooo much cooler) Accel coil and I opened up the bottoms of the dual intake ducting and installed K&N filters, and I descreened the MAF sensor as well as machined out the cooling fins, which added over 100CFMs of airflow through the Mass Air. If you can get those Tuned Port engines to breathe on the intake and exhaust sides and get them to run cool they run to their full potential and really run well. The torque was really impressive. That car launched strong and pulled well up to 5000 RPMs.
I was quite proud of what that car was with just basic bolt ons and tuning.
I also had a factory 230hp 5.0 TPI “G92 optioned” 5-speed IROC-Z hardtop car that I have a bunch of old videos on the channel of that car. It had SLP runners and Throttle body, MSD ignition, underdrive pulleys, full exhaust and other similar bolt ons as the mentioned 5.7 car. It actually outran my buddy’s LT1 and a couple 5.0 Mustangs, a 351 Lightning, a 2002 Mustang GT and it actually got beat by a brand new 300hp 2005 Mustang GT, but only by a car, and I had a passenger and he didn’t lol. It was a runner. I sold it in 2007 sadly.

My 2022 Mustang would win most races against these cars. I guess they figured out a way to make an engine run faster with the pollution crap on it. I still love the cars in this video. Any kind of 60s Camaro is beautiful.

Kinda shocking that a sub 300hp LT1 F body could hit 13.9s pretty easily, and hardly any of these 400+hp cars could.
Times really have changed! These days a V6 Camry could hang with most of these cars, maybe even beat a few.
