Hope people appreciate how brave and skilled that Frog crew were actually taking it into the water 😂 And the fact they got it from the barracks to any destination more than 200 meters from the camp gates without breaking down shows their superior servicing skills.
Mate, I wouldn't call the A1 "cool" at all, far from it in fact. The concept was good but I absolutely hated it as it was a piece of junk compared to it's predecessor, and my own personal favourite, the L1-A1 SLR. I understand the need for a change as the SLR first came into service decades before but I think it was rushed into service without ironing out the issues. My Dad did his national service in 1962 and the SLR was in service then so the fact that I started my career with it in 1989 tells you that it was old....... the only difference was that the furniture on my Dad's SLR was wooden and mine was made of horrible plastic.
Well the officers didn't change in their wonderful voices this is when we had an army based in Germany I don't think we could field 4 divisions in Germany today
how much of that engineering kit would be available today? I know little about this sort of stuff, I know the Harriers have gone, difficult to imagine the F-35's going anywhere near any grass.
Aaagggghhhhhhh......... those lovely 432-s, which are technically still in use today as Bulldogs. That's a service life of 60 effing years!!!!!!!!! What also made me laugh was the bloke shouting orders to the lads on getting that bridge built was sporting the absolutely horrific Sterling SMG, which had about as much stopping power as a grape. I most certainly would not have wanted to engage anyone further away than 20 feet due to fear of watching the target keep walking towards me even though I'd emptied a full magazine into it
oh yeah, at the same time for the other side, someone will claim Donetsk and Luhansk were created by themselves, Crimea was chosen and claimed to be part of Russia, while Little Green has already infiltrated someone's land and taken over, as for some people who don't know or unwilling to know. even always believe Russia is a democratic nation, ha, jokes, I don't help Ukraine & Western but hell with your Russia and Shina either.
My old cadet instructor was in the Royal Engineers in the 80s and 90s
Funny to think he almost certainly saw this video as an 18-year old sapper
I remember watching this as a recruit in 1985
Were you in the Stazi? 🙂
I'M JUST TOO OLD NOW BUT THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES. 😮😊

Nice video. Looks like prototype sa80 rifles are being used. Very cool.
Well spotted, XL60 prototype rifles before they clunged them up into the XL70 and SA80.

Love seeing the enthusiasm of these soldiers and reading the memories of you guys. I’m proud of you all. Shame about our politicians though
I’m ex-infantry. I think of the sappers I worked with on Op Banner. Remarkable lads.
Thank you for this upload. Much enjoyed 😊regards😊😊
Wow, brings back some memories. 1(BR) and the 4 Armd Divs. I was in 1Div.
We can't even field one heavy armoured division!
Aghhh ! Finally , been waiting for new content .
Well the officers didn't change in their wonderful voices this is when we had an army based in Germany I don't think we could field 4 divisions in Germany today
Iff that was lion heart I was there.
Amazing to think Exercise Lionheart had +135,000 British troops. With around 10k of extra NATO troops to make +145k total. 🇬🇧👍
Super cool!
I was there, then, doing that and that's exactly how it was. Wonderful memories and grateful thoughs of how lucky I was
I joined in 1984. This video makes me feel old!
I was on this lob at the beginning. It was Hankley common that we jumped on 😊😊
I miss those days during my tour in FRG.

Depends on what you're looking for mate.
No sign of Wolfgang
Feeding the camera crew! 🙂
He was probably in some forward harbour area waiting for the guys to turn up 😊
The Royal Engineers and the "Loggies" are the unsung heroes in the British Army and any other army as well really.
Not sure this 1984 because SA80 wasn’t introduced into service until 1985 and later , good video tho thanks
Looks like a prototype as another comment mentions.
My guess is they were given the flash new gear for the making of this possibly a few months in advance.
It might be on again
That Light Mobile Digger must have been the only one working in the entire Corps!
A great idea but lousy engineering.
Pin In!
Back then, I bet they would've loved the modern bucket quick release system on modern 360's.....
Disappointed there was no mention of the toilet unit.
They got bogged down.
Follow the Sapper, CHIMO and UBIQUE
🇬🇧👍🇨🇦

Pointing on maps using fingers. Shocking I tell you, shocking! 🙂
4 to 1 we were told it was a target rich environment
😅😂
5:24 the infamous Warsaw Pact Invasion of Yugoslavia, who could ever forget it😂
Watched this in 1 Trg Reg Gib barracks 1985.
Which rifle is that at 10:25? Foregrip / sight etc does not look like an L85A1.
XL60 prototype SA80
Literally 1984
"Yugoslavia on the brink of civil war..."
In 1982...
And now tell us you didnt haw your dirty fingers in this disaster as well...
It's a training exercise scenario mate........
Got to be honest, the MOD was rubbish at making films :)
So it’s the sapers you hit ? Ok
These days calling NATO a ‘defensive alliance’ is almost as funny as calling Ukraine a ‘democracy’.
Just look at the part of fictive BBC report in this, Yugoslavian civil war, in 1982!
Those bas... did this to my country...

Anything is better than crazy Putin invading your country illegally.
Most of the equipment we had then was well used ...i hated the 432's utter crap
