this is insane!! ive only been skiing once when i was tiny and hated it and have never gone back since. that looked terrifying but im so proud of you for doing it! only you could learn how to ski down a black diamond in 3 days!
yeah, she should've probably learn a bit more, like maybe not parallel smoothly, but at least good enough so she would use it in some oart of a turn.Plus, pizza is hard to use on steep slopes.Btw,i do ski lvl 8
I've skied this run many times at Steamboat. It is significantly steeper than it appears on the camera - a seasoned skier would have noticed how far the beginner slid after she fell (despite skiing at a very low speed). That said it is one of the few "groomed" black runs at this resort and requires the snow cat to be winched up the hill by thick cables in order to groom it. Most black runs in the US are not groomed and are either powder or bumps depending on time from the last snowfall. Double blacks in the US are usually not really runs at all but just sort of steep shoots and tree runs etc in the bowls of the resort - what is generally referred to as "off piste" in Europe.
@@jimmyrebel2010 i've been there and that black diamons are like max red lines in europe rly why its called black diamond i don't get it i wasted 1 week skiing there its nothing special in europe in dolomites u can easly find red slopes like black diamons here . So i think its nothing compered to europe slopes
Stabilizing technology has come a long way. Makes every little bump disappear. Still props to the cameraman, because it's not easy to do that, but stabilizing gimbals and whatnot are really helpful.
He was snowboarding cuz he knows what's good lol. But yeah I dont think it's a good idea to go on a black run on ur 3rd day , I know nothing happened but someone could get seriously injured cuz your in their way , you have to be respectful of other ppl on the mountain .
As a ski instructor and filmmaker I can tell this is pretty common in snow sports, all the shots were hand held as you can see in 9:18 is just a regular dslr and the black diamond shot was taken with a phone, the pro skier shot both of this ones. At this slow speed it’s pretty easy to keep a hand held footage stable because you have no steps or violent movement with the legs that may end in a shaky video, remember you are sliding down, you are a giant dolly and you can absorb the vibration with your legs and hands, it’s easier if you use a heavier camera. The only skiing shot that wasn’t taken with a GoPro or by the pro skier was the one in the bunny slope, you can see the following camerawoman behind the beginner. You can always add slomo which give you smoother shots. Talking about stabilization you’ll definitely need it going at higher speeds, if you are using a dslr a simple handle c bar will do the work if you know what you are doing, a glide cam for better looking but requires more experience to use it and for the smoothest one a gimbal. If you are using a GoPro a karma grip will get the job done perfectly, a longer stick will help you. You can follow gimbalgod or Etienne Merel on Instagram to see what godlike cameramen footage looks like. I’ve seen videos of Etienne jumping with a full-size video camera with a huge lense over a something around 45 feet jump on skis like nothing
@Sussy ass motherfucka It took me 2 years to be able to ski properly down a black diamond. The sport is hard, 3 days is not nearly enough to do any noticeable progress. Doing dumb shit like that caused me an injury where i couldn't walk for 2 weeks so stay safe out there.
As a ski instructor, I think that they definitely rushed the process, but as it was for a video I understand. I think that in just three days she did a great job.
I think one of the biggest things in skiing for a lot of people is just having confidence in yourself and knowing that you can always just stop and take breaks and just take keep breaths.
Yes skiing is definitely mostly a mental thing I have gone skiing almost every year for about 6 years now but I don’t have the best confidence so every time I go skiing the first two days are mostly me getting my confidence back idk I lose my confidence really really fast but after two day or so I’m skiing really good again and have all my confidence back
I've been skiing for 10 years now and I've seen some stuff. It was really good! It's a tough sport but the best way to learn how to control fear is if you continue doing it and you also enjoy it. I am afraid of heights but when I'm skiing I loose that feeling and I feel like I can control everything even if there's danger.
I think it's important for people to remember when watching these videos that Michelle is *training* like these people, and for only a few days. The idea is that she sees the effort these careers require, not that she reaches an extremely high standard. Well done Michelle!
Yes, I agree, but sending her to a black slope was too much. There's only so much you can teach a beginner in three days. She couldn't control her speed under a greater gradient, it is dangerous even with an instructor nearby.
Samantha Cho where do you race out of? I’m from Nova Scotia Canada. So super small hills but we can shred. I love/hate watching beginners. The people in jeans is what grinds my gears, or without goggles or glasses.
Michelle, it’s so awesome to watch you because you’re so real with everything yo do! You allow your audience to see you struggle and overcome that struggle. I love how inspiring you are!
Gopros make everything look smaller or shallower. And black runs are not always super steep, bumpiness, snow conditions and length are all factors in ratings (Atleast in the Alps it is, but we also dont have green so idk)
Since I live in Poland and it’s normal to ski every winter for almost everyone since they are babies, I have never thought of skiing as something difficult. But seeing you going skiing for the first time and making so much progress in three days is incredible. I moved to black routes after almost 10 years of skiing and was scared so much and you did it in just three days. That’s amazing.
Snowplowing down a black diamond takes way more balls than racers that use good technique need. Looks kind of dumb, but it's psychologically harder and it's physically harder to snowplow. What's cool about this video is she threw herself at something she didn't have the tools to do gracefully (parallel turns/hockey stops) and still owned it like a sloppy badass. I remember being young and snowplowing down a black diamond. It's hella scary, and it's hard on the thighs. This is a psychological victory at the very least. Great job, Michelle!
I’m really sorry but it takes a lot more than a beginner skiing down a black diamond to race it looks easy to race but trust me it’s not. But Michelle did great 👍 she skied down a black diamond and it was her first time on the slope
Ru a racer ? Cause I am and I let me say racing is much harder cause you have to follow a set course that btw hurts if u screw up and get hit by a gate. Snow plowing is easy it’s not hard in anyway it only hurts if you’re out of shape.
@@mr.tophat4643 Yeah she can start somewhere easy but at least by the end of the training she should be somewhat close to bring a better skier and not using pizza as much
@@mr.tophat4643 well he's not a bitch, it's a clickbait title because she didn't even train closely resembling a professional and not even close to a professional mogul training.
@@ormbaggen yes genius. making GS turns at 50 miles per hour will be more strenuous than wedge turning on a 15 degree slope. If you are skiing at the same speed carving will always take less effort than wedge turin ng and fight the slope.
Its like, shes using a bus because it gets 50 cars off the road or because it has low mileage per person - yeah if you have 50 people in it, not just you
This was so interesting to see for me cause I started skiing when I was 3 years old as did my friends and parents, so hearing how a beginner feels is so new and refreshing
factsss. shes acting like she just defeated god. lol btw your prob never gonna see this because you text was a year ago kinda crazy right like a hole year. your prob gonna read your message and be like dang that was a hole year ago. you prob just looked at your phone and was like oh a notification on youtube and you looked and bam brung of the past just like that like its kinda crazy a hole year ago like wow.
I've been skiing for 2.5 years now, taken about a dozen lessons as I have progressed in my time. It was impressive to see her do a black diamond run on day 3. Every ski instructor I've worked with says the same thing, because it's true. Take it slow, get back to your comfort zone of speed and control before you commit to the next turn, if you do, you'll be able to confidently turn and control yourself through the fall line, the line straight down the run, traversing across the run to your next turn. She was in wedge the whole time and had a pro skier there if something went wrong. The reality is, most of us don't have that, we have to stop ourselves. The hard part of steeper runs is that your uphill inside foot will be higher up with a bent knee due to the pitch of the run. You're relying on the downhill outside ski inside edge for biting into the snow/ice and providing the turning/traversing depending on the amount of ankle angulation you apply. It also looks like the DIN setting for the bindings on the ski's were set a little too high, her ski's didn't pop off when she fell. The way she fell was pretty much sit down the first time. The second time, she over rotated, sort of like a hockey stop, it looks like she caught the inside edge of the uphill ski on the snow, it tossed her downhill backwards because of her upper body orientation was lost when she was spun around. If you watch experienced skiers, their upper bodies are always pointing downhill, their legs are doing all the work. She would've had to rotate her upper body downhill, so that her left ski would've been able to get out from being underneath her and then bring her legs together and plant the uphill inside ski outside edge into the snow to stop. It's a very difficult thing to do on a steep run like this one, but doable. I am speaking from experience here, I lost my balance on some snow covered ice and my downhill outside ski inside edge didn't bite, I over rotated and went down on my back pretty hard. My ski's weren't under me, but they were uphill. I had to put my left hand down to get my upper body up enough to turn my hips downhill so that my legs would rotate from uphill behind me to downhill in front of me so I could plant my inside edges into the snow. I must've slid 50 feet while this was all happening. It was later at night, and no one else was on the run with me, but most people would've moved around me to avoid hitting me and/or me hitting them while out of control. In that situation, you've gotta take a minute, compose yourself and get back up. You're still on the run. I could've unclipped from my bindings and walked down, but wasn't going to let this hinder me, so I got back up and stood on my ski's for a couple minutes. Had to go visit the chiropractor after that lol.
As a long time Ski Instructor of many decades, I would not recommend Skiers at this level attempt Skiing terrain that is far above their ability . . . Ultimately, this encourages others to add unnecessary risk to themselves and others on the slope . . . as exemplified by the injured Skier in the Ski Patrol Toboggan !!
I thought it helped me skiing shit that was harder when i first started cuz in all reality ur most likely not ganna die on a black diamond and so if you tomahawk down the mountain so be it ur jus ganna eventually learn how to stop. my freinds took me down a green run twice my first time ever skiing I still didn’t know how to stop and they took me up to a black diamond immediately after that and I bombed the hill trying to get down and tomahawked, almost broke my bindings and it hurt like a bitch but after that I fucking figured out how to stop and it helped me get better so quick instead of waiting a week to be able to ski black diamonds I could ski it pretty well within a day.
@@nathanpeters3401 Quit it with that shit man. Skiing is labeled as an extreme sport for a reason, you are not fucking invisible. I myself have skied for 3 years and recently i injured my knee badly. Even tho i was totally in control. It hapened when i popped a jump and when i landed my ski fell off. I tried to control my speed but i was going fast and the ski that didn't fell twisted my knee. I had trouble walking to school after that only recently it healed so be careful out there, because i belive i was lucky back then. A year back i couldn't extend my leg for 2 weeks and couldn't walk. U should have fun of course but don't full send it all the time when you have no control. You are a danger to yourself and other people
@@nathanpeters3401 Thats extremely dangerous to anyone around you. I have had to move out of the way numerous times for people (primarily children on their own) who try more than they are capable of and have absolutely no speed control or ski etiquette. You can get seriously injured in this sport, and it's the reason ski mountains have people sign waivers for it. I picked up skiing my first time really well, and by day 2 and 3 I felt confident going down greens and then steeper green hills and even the icey patches (bad conditions). You can learn really quickly without throwing yourself into the deep end straight off and putting yourself and others at risk. You need to learn how to stop before you leave the bunny hill. I had watched many videos in preperation for my first day, had taken a quick lesson, and eventually progressed from pizza to carving, and had good speed control/great form according to a very experienced skier friend who I had gone with. I haven't gotten hurt yet.
@@isabelv483 Dude he sent a black diamond which essentially a red in Europe , assuming that the black diamond is considered dangerous I assume less people do it and therefore would not so great risk of collision .At some point you have to go for it to progress faster ,i don’t live in a country with snow so don’t get opportunity to snowboard often so in all honesty I do what he does ,never had any collisions with others and progressed fast.As for the sport of skiing I’m not trying to downplay it but just as snowboard it’s super easy to progress don’t see why you should wait extremely long to go for risky stuff, if he was confident and no one got hurt I say go for it.At some point you also need to know how to take a fall
Lilly M I personally hated this video. This girl shouldn’t have been on the black diamond run. Someone who is still pizza-ing should not be on a black diamond. Total dumbass move.
being a skier this made me wonder how stupid people are. You dont simply go into black diamond after a day or two, it can LITERALLY kill you or someone else at the slope.
Yeah but skiing is easy I know, I used to ski and I could do blacks by my second time and please no one start a huge argument about this or you’re a kook
Bananaboi The crusader ok... but it is about the look (I’m assuming that’s what you meant). Anyone can say that they can ski just like anyone can say they can dance. It’s really all about the form and the looks.
The ski instructor shouldn't have rushed her like that she obviously wasn't really to do the last slope definitely not on her third day, she should have taught her how to ski in parallel first.
She isn't a ski instructor tho, and that wouldn't have made it a good video. that slope is a European red at most. But since it was snowing so much they used the opportunity to probably fake it being a black.
Michelle! You did it again! You are such an inspiration! I admire you! I even started to run again and try to PR my old high school cross country times. I love how vulnerable you are to us in your videos. You so could’ve easily edited out, but you didn’t! Seeing you conquer your fears, makes me want to conquer mine! You are the definition of female empowerment! Love you and your videos! 🤗😭💕💪🏻 p.s. please don’t stop making cool videos! 😭
ok... I might not know a lot about skiing, however, when my dad took me a few weeks ago, there were things he said to me that helped me out a lot; He told me to lean down the slope, attack it. He told me no matter what speed I go if I know that going parallel (90 degrees) across the slope slows me down I can do anything. The first two days were hard and I wasn't enjoying it, but as soon as I got the hang of turning, I was having fun and blasting down reds. My goal for next year is to go down the blacks (European).
Skiing as an adult is tough man cause you have the fear whereas kids have no fear and are made of rubber. Takes guts when you're an adult and to fight you instincts to lean back when heading down steeper terrain; the key is always just take your time and don't push beyond your skill level. That being said.. if feel this video might be sending the wrong message that skiing blacks in three days is the way to go.. Skiing any run WELL is better than anything steep and putting yourself and potentially others at risk. I realise you had your instructor with you but it should be strongly highlighted never to ski / board or learn without an instructor. Too may people are 'too cool' or too proud for lessons these days and go straight for advanced runs like some kind of badge of honour. I was out with my team in France last year on an advanced run when an out on control skier crashed into the back of me breaking my leg, cartilage damage and rupturing my ACL ending my season and (at the time) potentially ending my skiing career. First things first, take care of everyone else's safety on the mountain! But again, well done. Hope you keep it up!
In Austria we start learning to ski at the age of about 3, so seeing adult people starting is very rare. I can imagine that this must be very hard, you did a great job!!! however that black diamond slope would be more of a medium difficulty in Austria 😄😂 I'd say the most challenging things here are 'off-road' tracks were you ski in knee-high snow around rocks and little trees 😄
Right? I am a ski beginner (in Austria. It happens. Well, actually came here to study, but still...) and this looked more like a red slope. In eight grade we went to Achenkirch for a week of skiing and by Thursday we were asked to go down a black one (there's like only a tiny bit of black slope and then it goes to a red one, so they thought it'd be managable). I remember it being much steeper then this. But I made it, had an accident half a day later (my teacher still tells everyone it was the most impressive one she's ever seen a student have), I came out ok, but wasn't up for skiing again afterwards so I waited 5 years until I was convinced to start it again. But I'll take it slow this time ^^ blue ones, I'm coming!
Me (No, not Ashildr, I had the name before Doctor Who, and I'm not changing it!) Hey, great to hear that you are still learning 😄 Yeah especially ski accidents can look quite ... scary but most of the time you get away without really hurting yourself 😊 Hope you're having a nice evening, guess you are studying in Vienna or Graz, but anyway greetings from Vienna 😁
No, I'm studying in Kufstein, teeny tiny city on the border to Germany in Tyrol. They only have around 20 000 people and a University of applied sciences. But they attract people from all over Austria and Germany. We also have a few people from both Vienna and Graz ;) And you're right, I was totally fine after I fell but didn't want to push my luck... Hope you're also having a nice evening. 😊
In Colorado, a lot of the times if a slope is half moguls, then it will be classified as a blue/black instead of just a blue or even green. I promise the skiing here is WAY better than what was pictured in the video😂 most resorts have back country and bowls which are the ideal black or double black diamonds.
Kenna Norder oh thanks I was wondering as in Austria there are only three levels: easy (blue) medium (red) difficult (black) 😊 it's quite funny to learn about all the differences 😁
Greyhound has really stepped their game up. I traveled from New York to Tennessee and it was awesome. WiFi and an outlet. I couldn’t ask for anything else.
I'd like Greyhound if they would actually show up within 2 hours of the planned departure time... then you call them for info and they are as lost as you.. I was trying to go from Frisco to Denver, and after 3 hours they said it was cancelled, then I called someone else from Greyhound and they found out that it would be another 2 hours of waiting. Thankfully I found another way back to Denver.
I’m a ski racer and I’ve been skiing my whole life. Even I thought that was insane that she could do that! She was so good on skis for never using them. This was amazing!!!🥰
You never cease to amaze us!! This video shows how strong you're mentally and how determined, courageous you're. I tried skiing the other day for the first time and I found it very difficult but then there you are, going from beginner to black diamond level in just 3 days, is just amazing and speaks volume about your strong character. Seeing you complete that last trail after all the difficulties, was inspiring. I could connect more with the video. Keep rocking. Take care.
Bananaboi The crusader sorry I’m terrible at spelling literally when I was in school I got 15 out of 25 on spelling one week and I was always a strait A student. 👩🏼🎓
Wow! To do that in three days is super impressive! I grew up a couple of km's from a mountain and have been skiing since I was about three but I still get a rush when I go down a black diamond-slope.
Lol.theres a difference between skiing and skiing well.that was stupid being on a black Diamond when only being able to do pizza turns. You can learn how to parallel turns in a 3 days that would be a better use of your time.
This is going to sound really weird because I don't know you and I've never met you, but I'm so freaking proud of you! You are the so strong and amazing! :)
Kaitlynn Henderson word,I’m like a level 4+ this made me like wanna die. There black looked like nothing. Her reaction to falling was so over exaggerated and her not telling her what she did wrong by crossing her skis was dumb
Its a great achievement getting to that point in three days, don't get me wrong, but that slope didn't look like a black run. I've been on slopes like that which were labelled blues - steep and icy (very hard blues though!). I guess it depends on how wide a range of difficulty the resorts have.
It reminds me of the race runs on my local slope. They're groomed without moguls, but they're steep enough to be called black diamond even though a blue run with moguls may be more difficult.
Em the difficulty level is supposed to be in the degree of the run not the level of difficulty to the resort, so this black diamond is close to the same as your black diamonds.
The black diamond they went down, “see me”, runs like a blue, it’s more of a blue-black than black. In the steamboat springs guide, it rates it as the easiest black diamond on the mountain.
Where can I find the steamboat springs guide. I have been skiing there for many years and I can’t find a guide anywhere. Edit: See me is really easy. The blue run she was taken down, Heavenly Daze, is honestly probably harder than see me because of usual snow conditions.
This has made me realise how lucky I am to ski twice per year since I was 3. I’m 15. I’m so happy and greatful for her. She works so hard for her channel. Lots of love 💖💖
michelle i been skiing/snowboarding all my life and i gotta say , massive respect !! its pretty scary but you handeld it like a champ ! i really hope you keep up skiing, you did amazingly ! its damn hard to learn skiing as a kid let alone as an adult , you did sooo well ! so proud of you and maybe well meet on the slope sometime ! :D
I almost got a concussion skiing on black I’ve skied hundreds of times It happened because I popped off a mogul caring to much speed and double ejected and ended up tomahawking down the rest of the run
Fives OW I once went on a jump way to big for me and I didn’t know how to stick the landing and I was going way to fast and I landed on my ski and I had a bruised tail bone
4:20 Mistake number one. She needs Much more time just sliding along on the safe and confidence building bottom of the hill where she can stop naturally. You teach traversing for balance on one arch at a time because That is what skiing is. That is Not something you teach on the hill for the first time. The bottom is the safety net. 4:35 If that was all the teaching she got, she was taught Nothing about skiing. She steered with her hips so no, she wasn't taught how to ski. 5:45 Yes, her skis are changing direction but that's because they are designed to turn when they get on edge. HOW you position your upper body and How you balance is the key to skiing in control. It's clear she wasn't taught to balance on one arch at a time. She was taught to steer. When she picks up speed, all the twisting and steering of the feet won't slow her down or stop her. 5:46 She is supposed to be balancing on that left arch so that left ski can make a turn to the right. She is pushing it away from her in an attempt to Steer the ski. She is actually leaning over her Right ski which would turn to the left. The reason it isn't is because moving the hip to the right flattened that ski out so it wasn't on the inside turning edge. 5:58 You can see it clearly here. Take your weight Off the Right foot and balance on the Left arch. She isn't doing that because she is afraid. She wasn't taught to balance on the bottom where she felt safe. NEVER let anyone Push you or that fear will stick with you for a long time. 6:20 She really didn't learn much about skiing today!!! If she pickups any speed, she would have twisted her body into a knot which would have totally screwed up her skis and she would have gone straight down the hill. Remember, this is a video. You are Only seeing the fun stuff. 6:50 Look how her body is twisted to the left to Make the skis turn. Her body is over her left foot when she should be balancing on her right arch. Look at the instructors body facing down the hill. The instructor should be telling her, get off your right foot, get off your left foot and balance on your arch. Then the inside edge of that ski will dig in and make the turn for you. 8:00 This is what happens when you are rushed up on the mountain and you have never been taught to lean your upper body down the hill and balance on that arch. Now she is screwed. Remember, they are ONLY showing you good stuff here. 9:09 She is turning and skiing slow because of all the snow around her feet. She is twisting her upper body and steering her feet and the skis will change direction but she has absolutely no control of speed. When she goes faster, she will lean into the hill and either fall or that uphill ski will dig in and turn her straight down the hill. 12:10 The rhythm is with her upper body twisting and leaning into the turns which will put her over the wrong skis and she will start picking up speed. 12:14 Here we go! No confidence in the knowledge of what she has to do to allow the skis to turn so there is Panic and leaning into the hill. Right here her upper body should be leaning down the hill so she is balanced on her right arch which will allow the skis to make a left turn into the hill and control her speed.. Try teaching that to her HERE! Look how that left ski has dug in and is preventing her right ski from turning into the hill. 12:30 This is what happen when an instructor does NOT INSTRUCT YOU! They just Push you too fast so THEY think they are great instructors to get you up there with No consideration for what you are going to experience. That could have EASILY blown her left knee to pieces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This Really pisses me off! 13:10 Lots of editing here. Remember that. 13:35 She is lucky she still has a left knee to walk on. There is Nothing to celebrate here. Practice traversing the slope at the bottom of the hill in both directions until you are completely comfortable before you make your first snowplow turn! Skiing IS, balancing on one arch after the other!
My first time skiing was on ice. We didn't see the ski report and the temperature had dropped so the snow froze. I was getting around better in just my boots. My skis popped off every time I fell. After awhile I just started praying for the bottom of the run. I finally made it. I got back to the lodge at the top and sat there with hot chocolate and warmed up in front of the fire
One of my favourite challenges you’ve done. From an actual rank beginner to skiing. So many challenges build on skills you already had but this time all you had to help was athleticism (not nothing but not too big a leg up). Bravo
If you're not falling, you're not skiing hard enough. Fantastic job Michelle! You're a machine, and your strength shows when you're able to do something like skiing, and do it as well as you did, from day 1!👍
awww I can SO feel for her in those moments when she's terrified on the run. I am a novice skier (only been a handful of times) and sometimes I've found myself out of my depth on a slightly steeper green run or even accidentally ended up on a blue run, and when you're paralysed with fear but literally stuck halfway down a run..... it's horrible! I'm not ashamed to say I've cried a couple of times on the mountain.... HOWEVER, the incredible highs when you're having a great time and bossing it are amazing! I'm pretty terrible at skiing and yet I love it!
I’m happy you didn’t injure yourself! That much rotation of the upper body is a great way to mess up a knee for life! When you fell I thought you were gonna get a toboggan ride down. Good thing you’re flexible! I’ve been teaching skiing for over 30 years, I was super worried watching this! Stay safe!!
I don't think that fall was dangerous. The thing skiing is most dangerous when you lose control and speed up too much, she wasn't in control but didn't go as fast
I live in CT, the home of “mountains” which are basically bumps with snow on them. Even the black diamond at my local mountain is steeper then that, has actual moguls and turns, and is actually somewhat challenging. Odd for this to be in Colorado.
I hope she continues skiing. All of us skiers, no matter the level, have these moments when we jump to the next level or find ourselves in something that is really scary for us. Even the pros talk about it, and as an advanced skier, whenever I challenge myself that fear can come back. Part of the joy of skiing is getting to break through that fear and get better and better until what used to be frightening is fun and thrilling.
Never mind all that talk about how easy the slope was or how bad Michelle's form was, I can't believe the professional skier broke her slide down with her own skis/body. Like wtf.
this video is actually great timing!! im going to colorado less than a month from now to ski for the first time. this video has me super pumped cause i actually love heights
I'm heading to steamboat in a week or so, I've met so many kind olympians there over the years it's actually insane. All of them are so kind and willing to help you out. Not to mention the skiing school they have in Steamboat is top notch, I highly recommend it.
Omg you did it!! I've been skiing for a few years and I still can't do a black Dimond. Dark blue square is the most I can do man so watching you on the steep slope was even stressing me out. So proud of you ❤❤
The transition from green to blue is harder than from blue to black. Once you can parallel turn, you’re ready for blacks. They’re way less intimidating once they’re on the slope.
I have a lot of respect for Sophia. Even though she is an amazing skier and probably would never fall on a run going the speeds she was going with Michelle, she still wore a helmet!
It’s not solely your abilities that matter on the mountain, my dad used to have the same philosophy until he got constantly hit but inexperienced or inconsiderate skiers and snowboarders running into you.
Helmets aren’t just for keeping ur head safe. They keep your head warm and make you goggles sit better on your face. And yes she is VERY good, but everyone falls! So no matter what she would wear a helmet, basic knowledge.
I love it so much. Your challenge videos are hands down my favorite videos on youtube. I love people that are up for anything and watching you try so many different things in all sorts of different outlets is pretty awesome.
She didn't fall or even look like she was off balance even a little getting on or getting off the chairlift for the first time? Thinking this is staged. Plus she has the insight to look up hill immediately after her first turns? I'm pretty sure she's done this before, but you never know. She falls for the "first time" and she stands right back up? No, she has ABSOLUTELY skied before. No WAY is someone standing up from their first fall that easily.
Brave isnt the word for the pepole that have no fear to anything, brave is a word to discribe people that do things in fear and that is exactly waht Michell does. Love ur videos!!!
That has nothing to do with training like a professional skier. She is dramatising and overemotional. She made a huge progress, but absolutely cannot call this professional skiing.
Jakub Bartler she wasn’t over-emotional? She dealt with it very well for a beginner. And there’s nothing wrong with emotions, we all have them all the time, don’t be scared of them👌🏻👌🏻
BloopyBlobBob I’m just telling, that calling it „training like a prpffesional skier” is a huge mistake or even a lie. This has nothing to do with training like a professional. I was training skiing profesionally for the past 10 years.
Jakub Bartler I agree, it shouldn’t have been titled that. But that’s not what I commented on, I commented on you calling her over emotional and dramatic..
I love how she was soooo good from the beginning and as a ropeway worker in Switzerland the chairlifts there look AWEFUL, they look like the oldest chairlift in our ski resort.
okay, i'm in middle school, and I've been skiing since I was in 1st grade, so I completely remember what it feels like to fall and then start like falling down the mountain, and I remember the fear. But now that i'm older, when that happens to either me or my brother, we start laughing at each other :)
I loved this video so much! I'm going skiing in a couple weeks and I'm super nervous as although it's not my first time, my first time I did go I had an accident and it kind of knocked my confidence. It's frustrating being scared when your at the top but when you get to the bottom it feels like such an accomplishment! I really related to when you was talking about the mental side of skiing as I fing the steepness the worst part to overcome x but this video made me feel so much more confident that I can do it like you did X
I'm about to ski again after a really bad last run a month ago. I FEEL THIS VIDEO. My dad got in a horrible ski accident that almost killed him 13 years ago and it was my first day back skiing. After a few bunnies, my sister and dad decided that we would go on a 3.5-mile ski and I literally had a panic attack in the middle of it. I thought I was going to have to get medical intervention, no joke, felt like a heart attack. This video was so motivating to watch before I go because I feel much less alone!

That black diamond really looks like a European red slope.
Lmao i have seen blues harder than that
@@mitoski7427 exactly
I agree
Everyone is talking about "her skill" and the terrain. I am here thinking about the cameramen who did everything so smoothly. Like how?
Stabilizing technology has come a long way. Makes every little bump disappear. Still props to the cameraman, because it's not easy to do that, but stabilizing gimbals and whatnot are really helpful.
It was mostly filmed on go pro the whole skiing part was filmed on go pro
Stabilization technology. And also the Olympic skier dirk was the one filming
13:18 idk why but i find the combination of her skiing skills along with the dramatic music EXTREMELY funny

100% when you lose confidence on a big steep section or something you lose your stance and wind up backseat or whatever and will fall
@@pootinplays Yeah I started skiing a couple years ago and just realizing that I can take breaks always helps
Skiing is 90% mental for sure.

But Michelle did great 👍 she skied down a black diamond and it was her first time on the slope
racing usually takes place on double blacks on complete ice at really high speeds... takes more balls than jerrying down a black

@Akshita Shukla imagine not being mean like that was a *whole* month ago. Btw are you my English teacher?

@@nathanpeters3401 Thats extremely dangerous to anyone around you. I have had to move out of the way numerous times for people (primarily children on their own) who try more than they are capable of and have absolutely no speed control or ski etiquette. I picked up skiing my first time really well, and by day 2 and 3 I felt confident going down greens and then steeper green hills and even the icey patches (bad conditions). You can learn really quickly without throwing yourself into the deep end straight off and putting yourself and others at risk. You need to learn how to stop before you leave the bunny hill.

I can imagine that this must be very hard, you did a great job!!!
however that black diamond slope would be more of a medium difficulty in Austria 😄😂
I'd say the most challenging things here are 'off-road' tracks were you ski in knee-high snow around rocks and little trees 😄

Hey, great to hear that you are still learning 😄 Yeah especially ski accidents can look quite ... scary but most of the time you get away without really hurting yourself 😊

Me: “yeah well they have bindings!”
Exactly what I thought 😂
Same
Hate to be that guy but skis
Bananaboi The crusader sorry I’m terrible at spelling literally when I was in school I got 15 out of 25 on spelling one week and I was always a strait A student. 👩🏼🎓
It’s all good
You can learn how to parallel turns in a 3 days that would be a better use of your time.
im an instructor and had one adult go from never skiing to parallel on a red in 2 days, best feeling ever
She's doing pizza and struggling to stay up though
So true
This is going to sound really weird because I don't know you and I've never met you, but I'm so freaking proud of you! You are the so strong and amazing! :)
As a professional ski teacher; this made me cringe
shouldn’t have been taken down a black diamond before not knowing how to parallel turn
@@neru_lol too true 🙄
I wonder if she got taught any of the basic turn techniques instead of just going down the hill
Yeah.
Kaitlynn Henderson word,I’m like a level 4+ this made me like wanna die. There black looked like nothing. Her reaction to falling was so over exaggerated and her not telling her what she did wrong by crossing her skis was dumb
you are AMAZING!!! i literally starting crying when you got up and said "i can do this" after falling on the black diamond :')
Em camera angles are Deceiving
Agreed, my local resort has trails labeled blue that are so much harder than this especially one blue woods run that is a lot harder xD
Em omg every person says this on every video of a black diamond I’ve seen on the internet. It’s the camera.
Em the difficulty level is supposed to be in the degree of the run not the level of difficulty to the resort, so this black diamond is close to the same as your black diamonds.
When she falls the second time the music makes it sound like she took a bigger fall than she actually did
Exactly, such an over reaction
The black diamond they went down, “see me”, runs like a blue, it’s more of a blue-black than black. In the steamboat springs guide, it rates it as the easiest black diamond on the mountain.
well she tried to learn in 3 days. she had never skiied before. think about it, itll come to you, just think
Where can I find the steamboat springs guide. I have been skiing there for many years and I can’t find a guide anywhere.
Edit: See me is really easy. The blue run she was taken down, Heavenly Daze, is honestly probably harder than see me because of usual snow conditions.
I wish my first black diamond were like that one D:
This has made me realise how lucky I am to ski twice per year since I was 3. I’m 15. I’m so happy and greatful for her. She works so hard for her channel. Lots of love 💖💖
Skis for one day: "yeah I think I now know what the black run must be like" - no, you don't
While watching this she crashed and said it didn’t hurt. I was like have u really crashed before? Have you ever ate it? Have you ever had a hard sale?
michelle i been skiing/snowboarding all my life and i gotta say , massive respect !! its pretty scary but you handeld it like a champ ! i really hope you keep up skiing, you did amazingly ! its damn hard to learn skiing as a kid let alone as an adult , you did sooo well ! so proud of you and maybe well meet on the slope sometime ! :D
Gotta love how they missed out the whole period of learning snow plough and turning
I got peer pressured by my cousins to go on a black diamond my first time lmfao
And I got a concussion
The first time I went skiing I went a black diamond and didn’t fall…
Brie Bray ahahaha when
Kid They what you mean when
I almost got a concussion skiing on black I’ve skied hundreds of times
It happened because I popped off a mogul caring to much speed and double ejected and ended up tomahawking down the rest of the run
Great analysis!
@Gabe Hoing Who's "Shit"?
PSIA?? Also, stance was way to wide.
Sounds like rental ski's and they have a low DIN setting so that when you do fall, they pop off so you don't get injured.
One of my favourite challenges you’ve done. From an actual rank beginner to skiing. So many challenges build on skills you already had but this time all you had to help was athleticism (not nothing but not too big a leg up). Bravo
If this was really her 1st day, she absolutely did amazing!
hell naw she didnt broski
@Dylan mate I’ve cried on the nursery slope 🤣🤣🤣
Literally sobbing 😭! Keep on crushing the game!!!!
Why they have to make it seem like a life changing experience
I went skiing for the first time yesterday and it definitely changed my life because I’ll totally go more
Why do you play fortnite like its a life changing experience?
KetchupSauchThing lmfaoooo you dropped this 👑👑
As someone who is very fearful and not a thrill seeker.. it is life changing
Teacher: “what do u want to be when you grow up?
Michelle: 😏 “everything!”
Skis may not have seatbelts but they have feetbelts. (I'll see myself out)
They... Dont...
Begone
I've thought about this comment alot lately... It makes no sense
Snowboard bindings(typical style) have straps to hold you in, but skis just clip you in.
No they don't, skis can fly off
"I trained like a professional skier!"
No, no you didn't.
@God is the way yeah it made me cringe
Yea she cant even do parallel turns
@God is the way yeah usually the snow like that would be so smooth and it just goes: swooosh
Lol more like I got to learn to ski with a pro
I am professional skier because i flip and jump like feet 2.1 and more skill. I am 12 years old btw lol.
Wait that's a black diamond? Go to Japan and that's the hardest green track like wtf where's the moguls and actual steepness😂
I live in CT, the home of “mountains” which are basically bumps with snow on them. Even the black diamond at my local mountain is steeper then that, has actual moguls and turns, and is actually somewhat challenging. Odd for this to be in Colorado.
arcticfilms I live in fucking Australia and we have harder blue runs that hers
Steamboat does have some steeps for sure! You just gotta know where to look ;)
Its called the go pro effect, everything looks way less steep than it is in real life. It’s probably a lot more steep than what it looks like.
I live in Japan and I know what you mean
oof. Crossing skis, tucking pants in shoes, this video makes me cringe.
When I'm watching this it's October and I'm sooo siked for the slopes!
HowtodoMOBILE saaaame except I'm not going skiing till March ahhhh
sameee. my season starts in october-december depending on when we get enough snow. i cant waiiittt

You have the coolest channel! I seriously love all your videos!!!
your videos are so cool and honestly, i love how real you are in all of your videos x
I can’t remember the last time I thought a blue was steep. Definitely nostalgic
Never mind all that talk about how easy the slope was or how bad Michelle's form was, I can't believe the professional skier broke her slide down with her own skis/body. Like wtf.
Ikr she was an Olympic skier she should have easily been able to avoid her
@@andrewsantilli2701 LOL avoid her?? The whole point was to stop her.
uhhh yeah? Was she just gonna let her slide down the whole run lmfao
this video is actually great timing!! im going to colorado less than a month from now to ski for the first time. this video has me super pumped cause i actually love heights
mapleloafs
Just some advice from someone who likes to ski a lot, never ski at Vail.
So proud of you ❤❤
that makes you a pussy
Ummm that wasnt a black diamond.. more like blue (VERY easy) black diamonds in my country are most likely free fall
The transition from green to blue is harder than from blue to black. Once you can parallel turn, you’re ready for blacks. They’re way less intimidating once they’re on the slope.
13:21 that run looks like a dream to straight line down
Ohraider omfg ikr I wish I could just bomb that shit
caitlyn carpenter ayy, good thing I live less than an hour away from steamboat
Ikr
I have a lot of respect for Sophia. Even though she is an amazing skier and probably would never fall on a run going the speeds she was going with Michelle, she still wore a helmet!
It’s not solely your abilities that matter on the mountain, my dad used to have the same philosophy until he got constantly hit but inexperienced or inconsiderate skiers and snowboarders running into you.
its basic knowlege no matter how good you are you weR A HELMET
Helmets aren’t just for keeping ur head safe. They keep your head warm and make you goggles sit better on your face. And yes she is VERY good, but everyone falls! So no matter what she would wear a helmet, basic knowledge.
I love it so much. Your challenge videos are hands down my favorite videos on youtube. I love people that are up for anything and watching you try so many different things in all sorts of different outlets is pretty awesome.
Michelle, I simply love you. And I have immense respect and admiration for you ❤️😘
I’m so excited about this video, I am a ski instructor for very young kids and I love watching people learn
Michelle you are very brave doing this. You made us all proud.
The fact that you did a blue on your second day ever is amazing.....I'm impressed
Calm down there jer
@@staylucky4727 lmao fr tho
Same
But i didnt have a brother to learn with
Same
When I was learning to ski my brother flew past me and said tips down balls deep
Sophia seemed like such a great teacher, she was so calm and upbeat!
I’d literally practice backwards skiing down that “black diamond”
I loved this video so much! I'm going skiing in a couple weeks and I'm super nervous as although it's not my first time, my first time I did go I had an accident and it kind of knocked my confidence. It's frustrating being scared when your at the top but when you get to the bottom it feels like such an accomplishment! I really related to when you was talking about the mental side of skiing as I fing the steepness the worst part to overcome x but this video made me feel so much more confident that I can do it like you did X
OMG I love steamboat!!! I can’t believe you went there! It was so exciting seeing you at a familiar location!
You should come train as a snowboarder! I am a professional, National Certified instructor and I think you would be really good at it!
Michelle is the best ! I have a lot of respect for her self control
