My friends retired in Langkawi, Malaysa. I visited them there a few years ago and they love it - very laid back and friendly with cheap local restaurants, etc.
Wow that’s a fascinating guide to SE Asia hotspots not just for retirement but also vacation. Bali is still king after all these decades. Uluwatu is top10 surf spot worldwide. Also very interesting that you both rate Puerto Galera which is often overlooked. I visited PG 30 years ago and it’s very scenic with great beaches and convenient to Manila.
Once again great work Qiang and Dan!!! I can't thank you enough for the information you provide us. Soon I will be retired and I look forward to following your footsteps to many of these locations as I slow travel the world also
A lot of those places are a mix of either too busy big cities or to low key small towns. The good thing is it is usually easy to travel in SE Asia so you can experience both. In se Asia you find people in the bigger cities wanting to go the smaller towns for the weekend and vice versa.
Great video guys. I absolutely love all those places you mentioned. Ubud really is a special place. So relaxing and super laid back. Great place if you're into the arts also. I went to Panglau recently and fell in love with the place. I love that it feels like a small island 🏝 but is connected to Bohol and a stone throw from Cebu. I would love to retire there! Keep up the great content in your videos. I love watching and learning 🙏🥰
fantastic thank you as these topics are of interest to me i am getting close to retirement and Australia is so expensive not many prospects, i can relate to you both your down to earth thank you Craig.
Very good you two, the one thing that always sticks out to me is the apparent proximity of these locations and the ease of visiting them. Down to my last couple of months before retiring can't wait to enjoy a more laid-back lifestyle in this region of the world.
Thanks for sharing, very interesting to see your choices. Ubud is a pretty special place and I also really like KL. Hanoi is such an interesting blend of French and local architecture it is a lovely confusion for the mind to see 😀 but hoi an has amazingly subtle food flavours, a nice trip down memory lane for me. ❤
Once again such valuable information. Greta job Qiang and Dan. I had never even considered Kuala Lumpur until I watched your video. Now it is #1 on my list.
Outstanding as always Dan and Qiang. You both give compelling reasons for all the locations. Qiang's picks seem to center around food😋. Qiang has an excellent memory of all the places and you can really see how happy all these places make both of you.
The bad thing of Bangkok is the smog is horrible and getting worse !!! I agree with the other cities mentioned . I would include Hua Hin too , great spot ,out of the smog zone but three hours to big city ..
Great well thought out video, I don't get many of your choices, I used to work in Bangkok and was always excited to leave but that's democracy, very interesting and educational
I lived in Bangkok for 6 years and loved it. I am literally moving out next week for our house in the countryside but I plan to visit BKK frequently. It is a beautiful exciting sophisticated city.
Great job again. I am in SEA now (Palawan and soon going back to Hua Hin) and I hear that pollution in Bangkok and Chiang Mai (a city that I love) are at dangerous levels. I like your picks. One good thing about SEA is that you can easily travel to other countries when you want something different. The worst thing to me is that you have to learn a different language... 🙄🙄
For city lovers the 2 big cities on your lists are KL and Bangkok. I've been to KL but not long enough to comment on it. As you know Dan, I love Bangkok. I've been here 6 years and you described it well. It is a big city and like any big city around the work it has it's issues with crowds, traffic, noise, and pollution but BKK is a vibrant exciting modern place to be that still retains it's Thainess at the street level.
Good choices. I wonder you stay in Bali for so long and you have not yet seen the nearby places. Bangywangi is comparable to Puerta Galera, and its only a 30min ferry ride away. Malang is the Indonesian version of Baguio, just that it is much more impressive scenery with top excursions to Semeru or to Bromo. This is a one hour flight from Bali.
Gunung Kidul, the province of Yogyakarta. Beautiful cultural heritages are there too. Lots of ancient temples from hundreds to a thousand year ago around the province.
Have you seen any land or other properties for sale in Ubud? If so what are some of the prices? If you don't know can you look in the local newspaper to see prices. I am just assuming is the rents are $600 and up per year to buy must be super very good too? If I am going to rent it would be off the beach but if I am going to but it most likely should be on the beach or so very close nearby. or a piece of land on and one off the beach so I can live in both places from time to time to balance things out. Thanks

hi there, i would like to retire in ubud. but is it true that if i arive in ubud i have to take a real expensive agent who do everything for me there, and after 2 weeks i have to move out to singapure to take a other agent who goes to the embassy there and finish all . agter that i can fly back to bali. is that true???? thank you for answering soon. greetings dieter
I've lived in Thailand for over 20 years off and on. The last six years in Phuket. The problem in Thailand is the cost of alcohol, from beer to wine to spirits. It's very expensive, much more expensive than the states. I have been staying in Bucerias, Mexico for the last six months and the cost of beer and all alcohol is at least 40% less expensive than in Thailand. My cost of living is less expensive here than Thailand. This new Vietnam visa thing is a bummer. I was planning on going there to live for a while. I think I'm going to go to Kampot now.
Imported alcohol is expensive in Thailand. Particularly wine. Singha, Chang, Leo are all low cost anywhere here. And of course the expense will also depend on the currency exchange rate. In general, if you buy imported goods it is going to be more expensive here or anywhere.
Great video, but you really cannot do a fair recommendation for cities in the Philippines without visiting and evaluating Cebu city, Lapu-Lapu and Iloilo.
Both of you picked Ubud as #1. Ubud is too far from a good airport. Ubud is a nice place, but as a retirement base it's not the easiest travel hub. That trip from Ubud to the airport takes some planning. 😁
Hi, I am an American who has lived in China for 6 years and planning to relocate to Portugal. As a newcomer to your channel, I have found it quite informative. You mentioned using a visa agent to acquire visas before arriving at your destinations. Is it safe to mail in one's passport to an agent? Living in China, I am concerned about needing to have my passport.
We just travel to the countries with tourist visa, and we extend our tourist visa by ourself in the immigration. We used one online travel agent to do Dan's Vietnam E-visa. (US citizen need to apply a E-visa before arrival to Vietnam) This is not request for mailing passport and you will get your visa once you arrival in Vietnam. We never mail our passport to travel/visa agent yet.
What airport do I fly to is it Bali airport? Then how do I get from the airport to Ubud? I want to rent a place for a year like your guess did for $600 a year.
Ubud Bali is spirituel feeling and greener, Koh Samui is more modern feeling and commercial. This is the part one video th-cam.com/video/oAnErmE6zPs/w-d-xo.html

Super useful for planning my dream retirement in SE Asia.
Great to hear!
My friends retired in Langkawi, Malaysa. I visited them there a few years ago and they love it - very laid back and friendly with cheap local restaurants, etc.
Great roundup - lots to digest here! Heard that prices have been soaring in Bali lately (and, yes, UBUD is beautiful)

Well, I'm a foodie. lol
So much useful important info. Makes me more optimistic about making it to SE Asia. You two rock
Siem Reap is calm and peaceful, people are friendly and there are many wonderful ancient temples where you can’t find in any other SEA countries.
I arrived in Dumaguete 2 days ago so I was glad that was on Dan’s list. I’ll be here til Mar 8th. Then back to the states.
What about the coolest (weather) places in SE Asia?
Check Dieng in central Java, approximately the weather is around 0-15 degree C. Beautiful mountainous area with many ancient temples around.
Excellent video. Thanks.

They should take the boat over to the next Island and see “Lombok Kuta.” It is like Bali was 20 years ago.
Thanks for sharing! We need to extend our stay in Bali!
Excellent video Dan and Qiang! Very useful info, thanks again!
Glad it was helpful!

I would like to live in S E Asia, but I would prefer cooler weather and by the beach, do you know any places that have higher altitude and the beach?😂
