US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has accepted that the federal agency failed to protect former president Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13. Trump survived an assassination attempt after a 20-year-old shooter named Thomas Matthew Crooks fired multiple shots at him, injuring his right ear. During a congressional hearing on Monday, Cheatle took full responsibility of security lapses at the rally. She also revealed that the Secret Service agents were informed about a suspicious person approximately five times before Trump was attacked. Lawmakers called for her resignation but the agency chief has refused to resign.
