Brought a tear to my eye. Couldn't make the game due to being away, but being a season ticket holder for over 20 years and a supporter for well over 30 I really hope I get to see my club again. Like you say. Its not just watching the team. Its the people you see, the views you have. Its your Saturday, Tuesday (or Friday night) escape that is sometimes much needed.

As a London based Macclesfield fan an away trip to Roots Hall was always one of the fixtures I loved to attend. Having seen my team go through all of this it really does make me feel for all Southend United fans. As someone has already commented it’s not just about a football match or a football team,to some people it’s a chance to get out and be with friends or family and have a social life and meet new friends. I really hope that Southend can get through this awful mess and come out the other side stronger and wiser. Good luck to everyone connected to the club.

Even as a Colchester fan, this Southend situation breaks my heart. Yes, I want to see Southend lose every match they play. Yes, I take pleasure in watching Southend get relegated, however, the thought of any football fan being left without a club to support should be deeply saddening to anyone who takes an interest in the game. Stuff like this is more important than a rivalry

As a Southend fan I appreciate the sentiment. Rivalry aside situations like the one we find ourselves in are far too common. In recent years it's been Blackpool, Bury, Macclesfield, Bolton, Wigan, Scunthorpe and Oldham in trouble and they're just the clubs I can remember off the top of my head. We need much greater legal protection against rogue chairmen and people who want to asset strip clubs. Clubs also need to find a way to put their assets outside of the control of these kind of people so they can't re-mortgage clubs against them or sell them off for development. If fan groups and local councils owned the stadiums outside of club control they could use the stadiums more for community and commercial use 24/7 and any profits could be shared and put back into the club via the fan group. Councils would also have the workforce to maintain & develop facilities. I'd rather see that than clubs being rinsed by greedy owners. While I'm on a rant why is it that club owners lend clubs money? If you own a club you should be responsible for the debts, you shouldn't be able to claim you're a creditor of the club as well! If you can't afford to pay the debts then you should have to sell it to a consortium that can afford to run the club. Lastly football clubs as businesses should have a special category of community assets with loads of caveats and restrictions on what owners can and can't do.

I started going to Roots Hall in August 1966 for our first game in the old Div 4. We won 2-1 and I've been going ever since. My son has been, my daughter has been and now I take my grandsons, even though we no longer live in Essex. My eldest grandson turns 18 next month and we are due to attend the Aldershot game...but.... will there be one? Next week will tell. Thanks for highlighting our plight and to all those Colchester supporters on here; thanks for your comments and I hope you stay in the league. I've seen many great derbies both at Roots Hall and Layer Road.. some wins and some losses but I always want to see that game every season. Up The Blues.....

The real backbone of Britain are these 'smaller' teams and their fans. These people are not glory hunters catching the coach from Cornwall to watch Manchester Utd or Chelsea every week. These are people who watch their local team through thick and thin. As a Torquay fan, supporting my club is often miserable, but the time spent among the other fans is always fun. It's far better to support a team that actually means something to the local community a community that benefits from having a football club in it. Sadly too many football clubs are held to ransome by owners who just want to sell the ground or stubbonly want to stay in control even though nobody supports them. 50+1 is needed in the lower leagues. The people who really care about the clubs are the fans. I hope this is not the end of the Southend story.

As I wipe a tear from my eye, I think of 45 years of support, the last 20 of them watching from afar in another country. I was part of the SOS campaign before I emigrated in 2003; I thought the club was on the verge of greater things. And, for a couple of seasons, it seemed that might be. But no. It's so sad to watch the club's mismanagement continue to wreak havoc more than two decades later. You're right, Smiv. Spurs fans really don't have much to complain about right now. I understand their sentiment but - jeez! - they still have a club and they will still have a club for a long, long time. Fingers crossed but I think we've reached a bridge too far.

The press are too focused on the top 6, which is a big part of why Southend are in the awful situation like this, Bury got more press but only after they were gone, this happens unchecked too much and has to stop or football won’t feel the same for many people

Sincerely Hope For The Southend Fans And For The Town Itself that the club can move on and build for the future and ultimately see a retune to the ELF, ,Congratulations

Luckily clowes was our saviour and derby fan through and through… what we have achieved with the players that have come and the quick turn around is every football fans dream. We hope and pray your club will be saved keep fighting believe stick together and carry in supporting your club through thick and thin from one fan to another you have got this 💪💪💪💪💪

The first game of football I watched from the stands all the way back in 97' was Grimsby Town vs Southend United, its a memory ill never forget and I cant imagine a situation without them as a club. We got lucky and survived our financial issues and I would give everything to make sure my club survived in any league as long as there was a Grimsby Town FC, I do hope they get rid of their crap chairman and get to stay at their home, Common you Shrimpers, keep on fighting!

As a Macclesfield fan I can sympathise with the Southend fans. We folded as a club thanks to owners who refused to let us go, and just let us free fall. It was heart-breaking at the time. We started again near the bottom of the football pyramid, and were lucky to have new owners who are passionate about the club. Were a long way off being back in the football league, but its a fun journey, made all the better by knowing the club is in a much better position now than we were 3 years ago. Best of luck to SUFC!

As a Swansea fan I remember the games between both sides in the lower divisions. Freddie Eastwood and Lee Trundle were the best strikers in those divisions battling it out for top scorer.

how on earth is it not within the power of the EFL or the minister for sport and our government to seize control of the club from a guy who is actively letting it die and costing the taxpayer money in the process! its a community asset and if owners dont abide by the guidelines they should be subject to having it seized.

As a Millwall fan, 6 years ago we were challenging with Soiuthend for the final play off place right down to the final day in League One, and it was normally a great challenge when we played them. To see the club suffer the way it has over the last few years has been hard to see, especially when a club like Southend has been part of football for over 100 years. The sport is slowly starting to die with the amount of money that is now having to be invested, and fingers crossed Southend don't go down and they can find a miracle before March 1st.

Have you seen the prices at Tottenham... Yes you can go to games but you might not have any money at the end of the month.
These big clubs have absolutely betrayed the real local supporters with extortionate prices.
Southend is great value for money, with great community and organic atmosphere.

I think you’ve got the wrong end of the stick my friend. The point I was making wasn’t about a fans financial situation it was about the ability to actually go to games
Tottenham fans will be able to attend games for many many years whereas as Southend fans may not. Hope that makes sense.
Believe me, I’m an advocate for Non League Football and showcasing what value and enjoyment you can get lower down the pyramid 👌

I don't wanna say I told you so. But, a few years ago, most people agreed to lockdowns. I asked on social media, "So who's gonna pay for all this???" Sadly, the answer is, "We" are paying for this now. I'm sure there are other circumstances involved in this situation. As a Plymouth Argyle fan, we've been through similar. Keep promoting, and pushing. If it can be seen by the right person that enough people want the club, you'll find a buyer.
