I had a 71 250 2.8 sedan many years ago. Best car I ever owned. Tight as a drum. Power steering, A/C. Disc brakes. Big Zenith carbs. Auto column shift. 24 mpg. In the winter I would go up a fairly steep hill in the snow and never had an issue as I passed Bronco’s, Jeeps, and Suburbans stuck in the ditch. I’d love one today.
Understated class. My favorite classic Merc.
I absolutely love my three W123 diesels. They are easily to maintained, albeit certain specialty tools are needed, exceptionally well built, and are largely trouble-free, even with 200,000 miles plus. My favorite is the super simple 240D.
A friend had a 1970 220 diesel 4 door decades ago. Slow as frozen molasses in a blizzard, but solid as a block of granite. Saved his life in a terrible wreck.
Nice to see you excited about a classic, Tommy.
Very nice Mercedes Benz. I was only 12 years young when your car rolled of the assembly line. I'm 63 now. So your car is vintage. It's a rare model now.
Just bought my '76 240D less than a year ago. What a fantastic line of cars!
Love these POV videos! As always great job Tommy!! I like he uses his hands to talk in these videos! 😆👏
I had a 250c 1973 in maroon with black interior. Loved it. Very low gearing. 14 MPG. Loved it!drove it every day for 14 years.
What a beautiful classic Benz. Congrats, Tommy! I would love to have a car like this to pamper and cruise around in on nice days. I enjoy POV test drive videos like this.
One of my favorite Mercedes. Fantastic purchase, Tommy!
My first car was given to me. A beautiful light blue, with matching blue interior and blued hubcaps 😊 1979 Benz 300D. I wish I had kept it.
So many good memories, I grew up riding around in my father’s ‘73 240D along with his other daily driver, a ‘74 VW Thing (which I still have). He was so proud of that little 240D and would always tell me about how well built it was. Growing up I always judged cars by how their doors sounded when closing due to that car. 😆 I can still imagine the smell of it and how bad my back would sweat in those vinyl seats. It wasn’t fast… like at all….. but man did it cruise nicely and got a million miles per gallon. This brought back some good memories. Probably will be perusing marketplace now for 240’s
I think it would be a compelling case to market a car purely in its build quality, durability, and comfortably simplicity. I think it would be s refreshing thing given how many gizmos and cost cutting in other places seem to be going on across brands.
Hi there!
All W114 /W115 have four speed automatic transmission.
It seems yours doesn't shift into the 4th, try adding 200ml ATF Dexron II.
Not Dexron III, ever, mind you!
That might be the reason for your gas/milage ratio, though 17ml/g is what these carburated versions like to swallow...
If this doesn't help, check transmission and change oil and filter, preferably also on he diff, if the car is already on the elevator.
I owned like 6-8 of these over the years, now I stripped it down to one only: 280CE series 1.5 from '73, 4 speed manual.
Enjoy one of the best cars ever made!
So driving from Colorado to Texas will break the bank😂. Not counting ownership. I’m glad that you ❤ your car. 👍👍for your Classic editions. I’m a classic also🙂. Keep’m coming
My family had a 1974 280 4D bought new when I was in H.S. Mavy Blue on a black MB tex interior. Best riding car ever until I killed the engine due to a design flaw. The oil pump failed which was supposed to kill the fuel pump, but it didn't and allowed me to drive it without oil. 😢 Great review. Love the detail and the casual delivery of the info. 👍🙏
I bought my Mercedes-Benz 250C on July 29, 1971. I still drive the car. Every time I get behind the wheel, it's like driving an Old Friend. I have updated to Weber Carbs and Electronic ignition. On a drive of Route 66, I got 20-22 MPG. It does run hot . . .
Very nice to know someone to have it since new!. You should make a video of your car! Why did you changed your carbs? I have one of these and the Zenith works perfect.
@@alvarolondo Yeah i don't know why people mess with perfection. The Zenith carbs aren't that bad. Is it better fuel economy with the Webers?
I dated a girls who's uncle fixed up Mercedes from that decade. Great little cars until you hit any real hills.
In 1990, I owned a 1970 280CE German import. Steering wheel and taillights were upgraded by the previous owner, otherwise all original and it was a blast. My much newer 533i could hardly keep up, and the ride was to die for. Definitely not tight as the Bimmer but super smooth. One of the best cars I’ve ever owned. BTW, the engine was multiport electronic fuel injection, not the mechanical CI that other Mercedes models used throughout the late 70 and 80 and early 90s.
I have had my 71 250c since 96, bought it from a friend,2.8, dual zenith Strombergs, had the car going 115 one late night in the rain, ironic because I had hit an 8 pt buck in the same area at 80 mph in my 73 Bavaria which I repaired and then in2001 donated my Bavaria to the kidney foundation,my brother, who recently passed away had tampered with the brakes and they failed in the rain, late at night,I was unable to regain control and bounced it off a tree, was able to drive it out of the mans yard unassisted leaving quite some nice big ruts in the yard,I had been drinking and figured it would be wise to keep moving, still have my 71 but definitely miss my BMW very much, rebuilt everything and she would literally fry them off the rims with the trusty four speed Getrag
Have a great Easter Monday my dude
Very nice Mercedes! Thanks for sharing your journey with us Tommy.
I appreciate the cost breakdowns on vehicles like these.
Nice car!
Would be sweet to have an overdrive on the transmission..
I love the W123 Bundts on the coupe, it’s subtle but they fill the wheel arches perfectly
I really like this coupe. I’ve never seen or heard of this classic man before. Great choice!
Good deal on that car, you almost stole it for that price. Love inline 6 engines and how they sound under a load.
Brilliant review, well done!
Instantly recognized the webbers since my dad runs them on his Tr7. Underrated carbs! (When they’re not on fire at least) lol
Beautiful car! That generation of Mercedes are so elegant.
Do you know of a 74 280C ? These coupes good handling and fast for what they are. Mine was Eurospec and didn’t even have a radio 😮 Only PS and PB. No sunroof, crank windows.
When I was a child my father had a similar car, a 1972 Mercedes 240D coupe with a manual transmission. He complained that in the Winter he would arrive home on a late flight and the car wouldn't start because the diesel had gelled. One Saturday he went in to the dealership to get something done and a customer came in really wanting a diesel. So he and the salesman came over and made my dad an offer and he came home in a 280SE.
Nice car but 12K is a lot of money for most people, especially when it has to be cash. I doubt most financial institutions would loan money on a car of that age.
Pretty car and you have a great mechanic to keep it in good condition 👍
👏👏👏....HAVE A GOOD DAY EVERYONE
Thanks Tommy, I am a huge fan of older Mercedes, would love to have one (or two) if I had a place to store them
Hey there thinking about buying this model in Utah and driving it out to LA. 1970, 30,000 miles on it and a super clean service history. A Mercedes mechanic said he'd sign off if I wanted to ship it to LA and then drive it there, but not to drive it all the way there. Could you weigh in? Would you drive yours that distance?
In elementary school, one of the more uptight and generally disliked (think spinster aunt) 4th grade teachers drove one of these. Looking back, it was probably the most expensive car in the teacher lot (the principal I believe had a Monaco). It would have been new or near new at the time as it was a 280C, and must have cost her a foturne on a single person's teacher salary. I'd bet $50 she had a cat, and IF there'd ever been a marriage her only son had moved far away and sent flowers occasionally in lieu of a visit. Prim, upright, suburbly crafted, a bit Spartan and not all that quick even for its day. Who cared if the AC wasn't great, she always wore a cashmere sweater clasped at the neck anyway. But for all that, I wouldn't turn one down today - they're solid as heck - I know because flash forward a 8-10 years and Dad got a W123 sedan - absolute tank and by high shcool I was driving that to the prom. Not sports car handling, but better than any American sedan of the era - 'planted' - and then there was the speed bump trick - pick a speed, it didn't care: 'thump thump' and that was it.
This C114 transmission is a 3 speed automatic, that’s why you are having high RPM 60 mph at 3500 , I wish myself they were 4 speeds, because I own W123 I imported from Europe gasoline engine and still had 3 speed automatic and it’s 1982 , Mercedes introduced the 4 speed on the V8’s S class models and the SL’s after 1982-1983 , don’t quote me to dates but it was around that time
Great Chanel had watch you fro Middle East/ Jordan 🇯🇴
Cheers
It was undervalued... until this video broke out lol
By design. Must be nice to buy a cheap vehicle and promote it as cheap, run the values up, then sell.
Cool i dont think iv ever seen a coupe. The sedans if I had a dollar for every one iv seen go through the local junk yard. I always used to grab the Becker stereos.
coupes are very rare , not many left
hard to see anything being built today looking so beautiful in 50 years time.
4500 RPM at 75 mph and it still takes 13 seconds to hit 60 mph? Now I know why it's under valued, more like appropriately valued.
will swap my working clock for a fuel gauge sender..... i loved this video. i also have a c114 but the k tronic bosch 170 brake horse version in hearing aid beige.... and sadly real leather seats that have cracked and torn badly. give me your rather well termed military grade vinyl or mb Tex anyday....
Nice one!
Best ever made sedan
I liked my 280C with the 6 cylinder DOHC dual exhaust
68 to 72 are the best looking cars in that series. Starting in 74 Mercedes added giant ugly DOT bumpers.
very nice car, what size of tires do you have? are they 195? I have a '71 model.
I had one of those and it had a 2.5 litre 6 cyl. 140HP engine in it.
Beautiful car! Love it
Can a classic Mercedes like this or the 280se be a daily driver? Are there parts still for a old Mercedes?
One more dream car.
impeccable taste!
Excellent cars, I’ve done 58k miles in mine 💪
Great car!! Back when Mercedes were the best!! A Rolex on wheels.
Maybe a change of diff might fix the high revs, but you will loose acceleration.....and gain consumption
Beautiful car
What a beauty!
What a beauty…
Nice one. I think I mentioned in your debut video for this car that I had the same motor in my 71 108 280S. But with the correct original Zeniths'. Your car starts very well and you've clearly managed to get the Webers running excellently. But the Zeniths were better. By the time I applied pressure to the key to start it it was already running. Almost subliminal. Pity about the difficulty of finding competent mechanics in the US that can work on them. It's a great looking car, nicer than the "facelift" with the federal bumpers and wider grille. Paul Braq went on to BMW after his time at Mercedes and designed the E12 if I'm not mistaken.
They used to go for $3000
These are ridiculously expensive in the uk. Good ones are very rare.
Steering wheel from Hungary? wow..I'm from Hungary, too. :) I never think that you will mention my little country in your videos:D
Will the Mercedes dealership maintain this car today?
This w114-115 serie from Mercedes-Benz is my favorit serie! But this serie whas that time to much undervalued! People say the little mercedes, i don't get that it is a car 1400 kilogram! Ok i deal with it rust whas the enemy and for that reason when the car whas 7 or 8 or 9 years they going to the scrapyard But the engine whas good!!! Do you know that the Mercedes-Benz factory have to keep building the w114-115 a year longer because the taxidrivers ask to do it!. My favorit Mercedes-Benz is the 200 automatic on the floor from 1971 color code 050 white also blue interior automatic antenna blaupunkt radio, the meaning whas that my mother give me the Mercedes But a fight in the family and my favorit car whas going to the scrapyard, 9 years old dam.ed, i still miss the car!!! The only things that i have are the broken star from the hood the automatic plate the clock and pictures that's all! And it hurts a lot after all the years!!!. a Mercedes-Benz w114 280E automatic full option is also a super car!!!!!
Knock off the waving of your hands!
Very weird for this viewer!
Keep it.
Cute little car
sweet car
Is this automobile still available?
Problem with your theory. Finding a mechanic to fix the mechanical fuel injection.
Heater and fan controls are made with plasticrubbber it deteriorates and crumbles into the dashboard … fix that by removing the windshield! NS!
Beautiful car otherwise!
The paint is phenomenal! Rock chips reveal more paint! 😂
It is impossible to paint a car badly in German Mercedes town!
And they simply catch on fire often.
As Tommy said, this car has carburetors.
Like the POV reviews! Tommy as always doing a great job! BUT...the hand movements are distracting. Maybe its one of those YT things I don't get.
Note to self: If tall, don't stick the GoPro on top of my head
You paid $12,000 for that?!?!?
Where can you find cars like this for purchase?
@@anthonyc1883 Thanks dude
AWESOME 👍😎
10:26 just out a lower final drive gear in it.
W123 seats uncomfortable?! Definitely disagree! At least the fabric seats.
Not super quick? Try absurdly slow. That car could be out accelerated by a modern pick up truck towing a boat
certainly was not an autobahn car in it's day...4000-4500rpms at 60? Wow!
Oil changes every 2000 miles?
Great 😀😀👍👍👍
Uuuh idk man these cost at least 20k in europe
Nice 🥰
3500rpm at 60mph? Yeah, they're not undervalued. This car is not practically drivable in the US freeway system
I really wanted to hear you start the engine but you talked... Please give us a second of silence to enjoy startups😊
👑👑👑👑👑
Supercharged LS swap it
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
LS it! Just kidding. Or am I???
If you really want to give a true POV get the camera off of your and mount it to your glasses or something. Being on your head makes it feel like it's on stilts. You are always looking down on things.
🤣🤔🤣… you need therapy for those nervous hands….had to stop watching after first minute!
Omg you're trying too hard with hand movements.. So distracting!! 2 minutes into the video, i'm annoyed lolllll
TRY TO TURN THAT CAR BASIC DIRT RACE CARS?? IF [ Can Try ]
It's all about that thunk @redlinereviews
