In my other post I mis spoke when I said they didn't want to work on it. Just did not want to work on it that day.
Also, wanted to say thanks for posting this video. It helped me greatly.

I live in Michigan and had taken my 2017 KLR to Montana/Idaho/Washington State in 2020, then Northern Minnesota in 2021, then to
Tuktoyaktuk NT Canada in 2022, then to Nova Scotia. As many remote back roads as we could find. It never gave me a problem until on the way back from Nova Scotia. In Vermont, it started to mis, backfire, stall out, and finally quit. From the time it started to misfire to quit was about 1 mile. The good thing is I was on my way to a dealership to get a new tire on the back when it quit and was 1/2 mile from there. Pushed it in and had them look at it. They declared "low compression, internal engine damage" and did not want to work on it. I was quite sure they were wrong, as the sputtering and backfire told me either fuel or ignition problem. Rented a truck and hauled it home. Found this video, and this is exactly what was wrong. The service people at HK Powersports in Laconia NH were very nice to fit me in, but they do not know what they are doing. Mis-diagnosed the issue and stripped out 4 bolts re-assembling the bike. I could understand the diagnosis, but they must have re-assembled with a zip gun to install bolts.

Hi mate. , just above and to the right of the Knick in your wire is a black rubber coated relay ( I think ) would you be able to tell me what it is called , I’m having trouble starting my 2010 That part emits a soft fast clicking noise when I press my starter button . Sometimes need to press half a dozen times to get motor to start

@@matthewtimms3001 i cant post links in YT comments but ADVrider has some info on the relays. There is a statter relay and it SHOULD be identical to another one there? (Memory hazy. Bike no longer here) but if the numbers match on the relays you can try swapping them w each other and see if your symptoms move/change.
I'm just going to paste a section and see if you can find it via google
"Next, main fuse--appearances can be deceiving, an intermittent "open" may exist here.
You can test your starter relay by jumping + 12 VDC from your battery to the small terminal on the starter relay (the large cable descending from the battery to the starter relay is a good source of + 12 VDC); if no action, you can jump the two large starter relay terminals and see if the starter motor turns over (these two test procedures will indicate whether your starter relay and your starter motor are operational).
The "starter lockout switch," aka the clutch safety switch, can deny a ground to the starter circuit relay--you may want to jiggle the clutch lever if starting proves balky. Another source of starter circuit relay ground is the neutral switch; if you get the green glow in neutral, chances are you're o.k. with that ground."
Check your kickstand cutoff switch too.
Wish I could help more but YT comments are VERY limited
