Thank you Sara. I have been eating the broccoli stem for many years but only this year have begun eating the leaves after hearing a TH-camr mentioning it. At the moment I am growing a variety called Tender Stems which I guess is a bit like purple sprouting broccoli only green. I have been harvesting daily from each plant for about 5 weeks now and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing production. The leaves are delicious also. It is a small plant, only growing to 4p-50 cms. I prefer growing broccoli over the winter (in NZ) so I don’t have to contend with the cabbage white butterfly.
Thank you Sara for your all your information on growing broccoli, I am tempted now to have another try! A little tip, I use cauliflower and broccoli stems in my vegetable soups, as you mentioned, trim off the outer tough skin of the stem and then chop it to the size you need! Broccoli 🥦 😃
I'm so glad that you mention that the stem and leaves are edible and tasty, too. Many people don't seem to know and throw away nutritous and tasty food (and their money with it). Kudos and thanks to you for spreading the knowledge 👍🏼👏🏼🙏🏼😊
I just took all my broccoli out yesterday. I had never really grown it, so it was a bit of an experiment. It turned out pretty well. Next year I will get the garden fabric. For some reason I didn’t get the caterpillars hardly at all, even though there were butterflies flying around. I was happy about that! I did plant garlic with it, as I had read it will repel the butterflies. Maybe it worked? Anyway, I ended up taking it out because it started getting very strong tasting, maybe from our recent very hot weather. Thanks for the tips, your broccoli looks beautiful! I will try to find that variety.
Any color Butterflies such as Monarch butterflies are good. These colorful butterflies are helpful and only lay eggs on milkweed plants. WHITE butterflies are the egg layers on broccoli, tomatoes, kale etc. that are bad and eat up your plants. LOOK under leaves to see them then google them so you know. Also, broccoli does not do well in the heat above 80 degrees or hotter. It was very hot this past summer so broccoli was poor last year.
Thanks, Sara, these are gorgeous broccoli. Could you please tell me how do you water them? Is it overhead watering or soaker hose type of watering? I am in zone 7 in Vancouver, Canada.
Hej Sara.

i'm curious as to what you have on the ground under your broccoli. thanks for the video
This is sheeps wool, I use it as mulch. You can see more about it here: sarabackmo.com/new-garden-vlog-out-now/
Great looking broccoli! I would love to know how you feed and fertilize them. Thank you.
