This song was my late wife's favorite song by Floyd. She loved A7F and introduced me to them. This was published after she died and it hit me so hard when I just now heard this randomly on youtube. She used to play So Far Away all the time, ironically it is now a song I play to mourn her. Thank Avenged Seven Fold for this cover, it means more to me than you can imagine.

Me and my Dad never talked around much. He was more into teaching me the values and purpose on how to live my life and be a pillar to the family. Back then I didn't know that he had brain tumour. It was only during the last stages of his life after the chemo that I discovered and he didn't want me to be sad either by his situation. This song is a connection of two lives without words but by a stronger bond of understanding. Its been 9 years now ever since he passed away. And this song is something that reminds me of the good old days that I spent with my dad. He was my Hero after all. RIP Dad. You were a good man. I hope I grow up to be the man you wanted me to be

I can relate... My dad was 3b lung cancer.. We kinda thought or knew he was sick or something.. He was losing weight, going home early from work, and then had a respitory infection that wouldnt go away.. He was addicted to pain pills at the time.. Anyway, I think he knew he was sick but didnt want to hear it from drs.. Well he did eventually.. And no longer than a week of knowing, he was taking his last breaths of life surrounded by family, and some good fire house buddies of his.... Never gets easier.. The only thing thats gets easier is remembering they aren't here... I still reach for my phone to tell him something funny.. but opps

Obviously you could never beat David Gilmour's own version of the song, but I'd argue that covers are never made to try and outperform an original version. Personally I think it's great that A7X are releasing new content between their albums instead of going silent for 2-3 years. Plus, the changes in genre just show how versatile they are as a band.
Why is it too hard to understand that the main reason of all these covers is to invite the new generations to listen the old classics that inspired this band.

This is a beautiful piece of art, a really well done cover with many cool images of their last tour with Metallica, and I had to pay nothing to watch it over and over again, for me it's something to be thankful of.

only Pink Floyd has ever touched me emotionally like A7X. I am in my 40s and I have heard a lot of great rock/metal over the years. But Avenged just gets me emotionally. The Stage is their greatest work to date and this cover of my beloved favorite song , is just next level of greatness. Thank You for the amazing music.

Started playing guitar because of A7X. The blend of new-metal with classic rock emotion makes them, in my opinion, the perfect rock band for the new generation.
the stage is an amazing epiphany of the great human tragedy.
I love A7X and I can see them doing this song live. But to record a studio version of this? No. This is about 7% as good as Pink Floyd did. It's so stupid to do covers and try to see how close to the original you can come. The only way to pull this off is to do covers the way old Van Halen did in the late 70s - making the songs their own...

The thing that stuck out the most in this video was at the end of the concert when they exited the stage. Shadows was greeted by his wife and kids, and both Brooks and Johnny were very polite to the people at the stairs who acknowledged them. Class acts and good people.

Btw, for being the song owner doesn't mean he/they play the song better, for example, a shitty singer can write a shitty song and other musician can turn it into a beautiful song. But in that case there's no chance anyone could do better than Pink Floyd on their songs.
