    God Job Sorin! I've repaired many laptops using the same method. From experience the repair can last 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years! As you said it's not a permanent solution but just how long it will last is down to use and good luck :)

    Funny Sorin quote of the day: _"I know it's a dodgy job what I will do now. But it just gives some time to the customer to save his data and buy another laptop. So you can see it like a dodgy job, or you can see it like a way to make the customer happy, and say: 'Look, your thing is dead. We'll just bring it alive for a little bit, and that's all; just enough to say goodbye.' "_ ☺

      oscilloscope usage in laptops repair? If you don`t know how to troubleshoot a MOSFET with a normal DMM i doubt you will know how to use the Scope for that :P
      Learn first with DMM and then you use the scope for probing fast.

    Repaired my first Dell Laptop today, The problem was no power and power adapter was cutting off when plug into the Laptop. I use the power supply and set it at 3 amps and located the shorted capacitor with alcohol. Great tip and thank you for your videos. Great help. Keep up the good work.

    Reflowing the graphic chipset is a temporary solution not a long term fix. This is a common issues and solder balls are not to be blamed. It is the bumps under the dye and after a reflow it patches the fault and works for short while before fails again. Replacing the chip is a long term solution. 😊👍

      Almost every single laptop is fine as long as the user doesn't forget to frequently change the thermal paste. :) Most people aren't even told that's a thing when they're purchasing it, especially from an online store.

  • @IntradeMotors
    @IntradeMotors 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The reason why you can no longer buy the good tools is they cost more then the cheap-cheap tools. But because they last and you dont need to buy another one, this means they can only sell the one unit and once the people all have one who will pay more they can not sell any more units . And what happens if you can not sell your goods= you either go bust or you discontinue selling it and sell a cheaper one like everyone else= possibly one who also fails so you can sell another one again.

It was black and white with wooden cover. I had only two screwdrivers, big old soldering iron and crappy multimeter. But I did it and I was able to play Atari 2600 games 😁😁

    • @em0_tion
      @em0_tion 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, but not everybody wants/can afford to spend that much money on a hot air station. Keep in mind it's even more expensive if nobody is selling this model in your country and you have to import it yourself - the VAT and customs taxes are brutal. If you're already working with such a tool on a daily basis and making a living with it - 100% worth it, some might even say it's incredibly affordable. ;)

    Is there a way to disable onboard graphics acceleration--either in windows or in the BIOS--so the owner can keep using this laptop reliably into the future?

    • @rezakianpour9668
      @rezakianpour9668 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are ways to disable the Nvidia/AMD graphic chip but they are different for each model. Basically if you cut the power to the GPU by taking out GPU Power supply coils and update the bios with a custom bios. the bios would recognize the Intel GPU as a stand alone GPU. But on some models like Dell 5010 you have to modify the board completely and you'll lose the VGA out port.

    Sorin have you ever experience soldering tips sticking on the solder pads or joint when you try to solder on high dissipating thermal mass like MacBook logic board? This happens often with low power (45w) shitty Chinese soldering iron and that pissed me off so much I decided to spent 1,2k€ on a jbc soldering station and forget about the problem. That thing never had to happen again wile I’m struggling with a repair... Of course If you can’t get better tools you became proficient with the basic one as well sometimes like most of the Indian repair guys used to do but that’s another story...

    Sorin, Sir thank you for your excellent video. I have similar display issue with my Toshiba Satellite P55W-B5224 laptop. I was managing it with an external monitor because the touch screen and LCD monitor were getting superimposed and the display went flickering. After watching movie continuously for hours in the external monitor connected with a HDMI cable, the screen display in the laptop slowly got fainter and finally died. I am thinking the GPU got over heated. I bought thermal paste and will try to replace the existing thermal paste or pad of the GPU without reflowing with hot air gun (as I do not have the hot air unit and I am not confident yet to use hot air gun for the reflow around the GPU). If it won't work, I will try to locate (I do not know its location now for this particular model) the CMOS battery and test its voltage.

    • @sweetmemories4448
      @sweetmemories4448 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I replaced the thermal paste of the heatsink. There are all the lights on same as before. Now the fan speed appears to be reduced or less noisy. However, no picture on screen; does not bootup; no BIOS screen even when the battery was disconnected and put back. As I had mentioned in my previous post, I am thinking to look for the CMOS battery so that I can do something to get the BIOS screen. Does anyone know where the CMOS battery is located in this particular model of Toshiba Satellite P55W-B5224?

    Hi Sorin, i have been bringing notebooks back to life for years. What i use is a 1000W light. I preheat for 30 seconds and then y hit it full power with 1000W halogen bulb for minute and a half, from 4cms high. Very important use aluminum foil to aisolate the chip, and no cooking the motherboard in the meantime. I ve been using one of my laptops for 3 years now a TX1000, since the morons who were supposed to reball it, screw the graphic chip. No hdd in that laptop, running linux from a usb. It works fine but every 3 months it needs a retouch. I asume is like a car, once the laptop dies, it would need service every now and then. But i have a HP DV6000, very nice laptop, with its massive 15,4" screen for watching videos. The secret, dig holes in the bottom, use an external cooler and maybe it will last longer, as long as the notebook remains cool, there will be no problem. No running it over 75ºC. Its not a fix, as Rossman says, but it gives you time. (reflow machings at home compaq F700, HP dv6000, hpTX2000) Bye

    Hello Sir,
    I appreciate if you can give some advise on what is my problem. even if just a guess.
    I have a Huawei matebook x pro which I accidentally drop on a solid surface.
    Now, when I try to power it on, the keyboard backlit lights up and the fan spins a bit, but after about 20 seconds it seems to shutdown itself. and there is no display as well.
    Another thing to note, If I disconnect the battery then plug the charger in, it automatically turns on with the same thing which turn itself off after about 20 seconds.
    Im not sure where to look first, would it be the ram? the gpu? or some power supply on the board?
    and how would I do some test?
    It has 16GB ram (soldered) and 2gb GPU

    Dear Sorin, I have been watching your videos from a couple of weeks and have mustered some courage to ask you this: I have an Acer laptop 5735 which identical to this video laptop from outside. I had vista originally and did not work very well. I got it upgraded to win 7 about two years ago and since then it worked very well. for the past few months it shuts down suddenly while I am trying o work and then restarts automatically after 2/3 seconds. this situation has deteriorated over two three months and now the laptop shuts down as soon as win starts loading and then restarts. I guess the cooling fan is either not working or there is some other hardware problem. Please help me.

    timely enough for me, my friend. You saved me additional hair pulling and teeth gnashing with your information as to the AMD GPU failing. I find myself turning to your page here for the straight goods and your chatty manner. Keep it up. TIA
