  • I used to wait at the main menu of Drakengard all the time just to watch this video over and over again. I noticed that nobody on TH-cam had the English version uploaded, so.
    Good video.
    Drakengard is property of Square Enix and Cavia, not me. This song is Growing Wings by Kari Wahlgren.

    the best part of drakengard is that it makes you _feel_ something, it can be disgust, curiosity, anger, fun or even confusion but it will always stick into your head like your first kiss

      Taro basically says that his goal as a game designer is to evoke an emotional response in the player.
      th-cam.com/video/SQxhyHMUJ74/w-d-xo.html
      I'd point to an early part of Nier Automata as an example of that. You come across some robots in the desert trying to mimic sex and child rearing. This even seems comical, and as a first time player you might think, "Haha, look at these robots pretending to be able to conceive a child. They can't do that."
      And then they actually do it and you're left kinda impressed, or weirded out, confused, maybe just laughing more. Whatever the case, it's a memorable scene and that's probably because there was an emotional element to what was happening.

      @lachancla3723 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@JabamiLainyeah, with how the industry is, I doubt even the devs would dare to recreate the same themes in the same manner, let alone the themes. It would just be a very very toned down Drakengard.
      It’s like wanting Rule of Rose to be remade…another game with heavy themes.
      I also wouldn’t like if they remade it with current anime art style either. (Drakengard 3/Tales of /Nier)
      This kind of semi-realistic style/FF is what makes this also hit the way it does.

      @@lachancla3723I know "Rule of Rose". Big fan.
      Also, I actually like the anime style, though I can see your point.
      I think Yoko Taro wouldn't mind replicating the original's feeling. Unlike "Evangelion" creator, he still holds the same artistic view required for the original "Drakengard", simply in a more evolved manner, as he learned through out the years how to build his characters' interactions. Meanwhile, "Evangelion" reboot feels so alien to me. It lacks all that made me fall in love with the original. Everything feels too ideal in the "Rebuilds".

    A very dark game where death is as far as the eye can see and in a world on the verge of collapse. The only people who can save this hellish world are nearly as insane or sick as the enemies they fight against and after struggling so hard to make it to the end... none of the results are happy. Honestly, to hear that Caim was inspired by Guts didn't surprise me that much. XD

    Pretty rare for me to do so, but I think the ENG version of Drakengard's opening was stellar compared to JP. JP isn't bad per se, actually great, but its just that ENG sounds so much better. Inuart's ENG VA did an amazing job portraying him here as a manic madman completely broken down by the circumstances he was thrown into, and the other ENG VAs in the background only served to make the atmosphere even more unsettling and dark.

    • @2deep5u

      First one had the story and beautiful madness in all of it's elements(be it good or bad).
      Second one had fantastic gameplay but the characters and the story were incredibly shallow for a drakengard game(if it was any other game i wouldnt even list it as an issue).
      First one's better but second one isn't worthless as it established what the gameplay in this serie should be like.
      I just consider the second one to be a spin off cause it continues form the non-cannon ending.

      Where is stated which ending is kanon and which not?
      There are two sequels to different endings and in this case a sequel isn't helpful to define that.
      Also I don't know why I haven't played Nier yet. Well there is at least enough time, because the europe release for Drakengard 3 is in May.

    • @nikodem123asdf
      @nikodem123asdf 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thorus Thorson Well it isn't stated directly but the director of the first game never wanted to expand on the first ending, this is why he played no part in creating the second game. He came back for making Nier which follows from ending E and now made DOD3 which is a prequel to the first one. + there is the factor that the director likes the most horrible endings the most. He said that the ending D of nier where the main hero is forgotten by everyone is the cannon one and at the same time it has similar requirements as the ending E in original DOD.
      But in this universe you can just consider everything cannon what's above is just what i deducted and the serie is build in such a way to encourage that

      I finished the entirety of "Neo Genesis Evangelion".
      Don't misunderstand me, "Drakengard" is still a work of art VERY FEW could ever hope to replicate. But, I have to admit in terms of world building, the anime feels more alive. And in the sense of confrontation with yourself, I felt myself more reflected in the main trio from that anime, not to mention the apocalypse felt more enlightening.
      That's why, I now fully want the adaptation of "Drakengard 1.3" to video game. The novel feels like the true rival to what "Evangelion" stands for, just like "Drakengard 3". But please, have a route in which Caim doesn't fully sucumb to the Dragon's blood. I feel like it takes away the whole point of his bloodlust. I like the original Caim more.

    What i love about this game is the vision Yoko Taro had at the time.
    He thought that saying things like "i kill someone" in a videogame, was kinda out of place, since you'll hear that from "bad people" that's why all the protagonist are just people who did terrible things, because you'll expect them from doing things like killing without repentance, but then 9 11 happened, and Yoko Taro understood that you don't need to be a bad person to do terrible things, you just need to think you are right, which leads us to the nier series

    and time tells its tale.
    blackened heart,
    a lonesome soul,
    the end is begun.
    a withered rose,
    a raging storm,
    the forest recedes.
    i call out these prayers to the sky!
    bring her back or take me with her
    i carry these memories inside,

    an island, endless fields, our home
    how i long for those days..
    a broken mind, it shows,
    stained by lust,
    will you forgive me?
    i see you grow wings and fly high,
    watchers look on as we dance,
    up in the cursed burning sky,
    watching me, watching you, watching me..

    What if we've been looking at the timeline all wrong ?
    For example, what if there are actually two Cathedral Cities (although the city is said to be on the Iberian Peninsula, in the original game, it's located outside the map, beyond clouds) because the timeline is actually this:
    -Drakengard 3 (routes C and E);
    -Tokyo, 2003;
    -Drakengard 1;
    -Nier;
    -Nier Automata (route C).
    What if Brother One and his cult were the ones who came up with project Gestalt ?
    What if he's the reason the Gestalts became violent before the Shadowlord was thought of ?
    What if the Seeds are actually clones of Emil and his sister that are harvested by the androids to be turned into angels/Watchers, with those who disobey being twisted into dragonhood ?
    What if the Empire's crusade is the reason humanity is so spread thin in "Nier", and without any knowledge about technology, and with little to no use of magic ?
    What if that's why Brother One was exiled from the church ? Because his red eyes were too similar to that of androids and Salt creatures, meaning he could turn humans into bloodthirsty creatures too, the same way androids and the Legion were ?

    After seeing "Evangelion", I was afraid of losing my respect for "Drakengard", so I watched the first game again (but only route C and I used my imagination to turn routes B, D and E into a single one).
    Best decision of my life, because it allowed me to gain a new appreciation for the characters, particularly Caim, that I failed to grasp the first time.
    Now I understand that while he's a warrior and I'm a scholar, and even though I feel more compassion for children than he does, we might not be so different when it comes to how we feel towards our respective sisters and how we want the forces above us to see us.
    I love my sisters too, but I don't see them much in my future, just like Caim doesn't see Furiae in his despite finding her adorable. And he wants God to remember him for all eternity as a warrior, just as I want to be remembered as someone who dances sloppily in the chaos while taking mental notes and commenting on everything like some sort of theatre play. My observations leaving everyone in awe due to how orderly chaotic they sound. We will both be remembered by our respective resilience.
    This game is a masterpiece, the characters are masterpieces (with Caim, Angelus and Seere being relatable to me), and I apologize for saying I prefered "Evangelion" over "Drakengard". I prefer both in equal measure. It's a crime to put either below/above the other.

    What if the reason "Drakengard 1 and 3" has multiple branches is because "Nier" is actually the present day of this universe, while "Drakengard" and its novellas are the player's attempts at piercing into the past, only to see bits and pieces mixed together into a forcefully constructed narrative ?
    That said, I think I have a timeline that explains how "Drakengard" and "Nier aren't set on different Earths, but on the same one, simply in different continents and time periods.
    It all starts with the Cathedral city being transferred from Earth's future into medieval Europe during the alien invasion we learn of in "Automata", forever changing the final outcome of humans, dragons and all the other species that inhabited our world.
    Us humans were meant to hunt down and destroy all magic on Earth, thus becoming the dominant species and being abandoned by God and Its angels when the 👽 invaded us. But the city got transferred into Europe during that invasion, probably in an attempt to save our species from extinction by preparing us for what was to come, introducing our science MUCH earlier and having humans in what would become the Imperial part of Europe/Midgard evolve at a rather fast but corrupting speed, leading God to decide that Mankind's time had come. If genocide or corruption were the only options with humans in charge, then a flower would rebuild life through self fertilization, using the decay for the proccess and replacing it with something that offered a better smell than humanity's.
    Unfortunately for the divine beings, Caim, Angelus, the dragons and everyone else would keep Furiae from achieving this goal, thus forcing the babies to come down, using Furiae's clones to form their mother/pathway. But even then, they would not be successful, because Seere would freeze everyone in Midgard so the insanity could not spread through out the globe. But before he could freeze the Mother, the monstrosity, realizing what was about to happen, would cut herself off from the womb and escape into the distant future, in a place far away from the frozen Midgard/Europe, when humanity's corruption reached its peak. This place was the Cathedral city, when it was still known as Tokyo. Angelus and Caim gave chase before they too could be frozen, and although they did keep the beast from rampaging, in the end, their battle would seal humanity's fate.
    So, conclusion:
    -Europe is a weird arc floating in the still waters of time, locked on an apocalyptic picture with an innocent child sleeping at the heart of everything, keeping humanity from reaching the world we know today, but probably keeping magic from going extinct, as I suspect it was the Europeans who began promoting the genocide of all magical creatures once the age of Discoveries began;
    -Asia still managed to develop, probably 50/50 the same (not sure if any country would be interested in initiating the Discoveries though), until the arrival of Caim, Angelus and the Mother Watcher, beginning the disease that would wipe out the remaining areas of the globe before the alien invasion;
    -The only humans and magic left are the Europeans and probably part of the Africans, all preserved like insects on crimson and black amber. If the androids or the machines will ever wake them up or try to prevent this timeline of events from happening however, is unknown. Earth is already on a delicate state. It could be unwise to do something radical now, though I suspect they will simply make sure the cycle starts anew in their attempts.

    • @JabamiLain
      @JabamiLain ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kingofthering24 my theory is that the "Drakengard" we experience is actually a collection of historical records filled with innacuricies and theories we are trying to put together in order to understand how we got to "Nier". Even with Accord, this theory can still hold up, because we might be seeing her reports, but she herself admits there are contradictions in them and lost information, meaning the player might be someone who's analysing incomplete records, not Accord herself.
      That said, I have a theory that what actually happened in ending B is that when the Furiaes prepared to end the world, the dragons intervened, tired of both the gods and humans. As a result, the winged creatures retreated into the skies and merged together in order to form the Mother that gave birth to the Watchers's physical body, angry at the interruption of the apocalypse, deciding to take measures into their own hands.
