I'm thinking driving a Mclaren on an open street being worse for it than driving on a closed circuit. Hard to find a street that DOESN"T have huge potholes or lots of small animals.

Perhaps strategic? Could the revenue earned from publicly blowing a supercar warranty be greater than the costs of maintaining the car?
Doubtful - let's do the math on the parts costs??? Factory-trained labor? If you can find a mechanic who will willingly work on one for LESS than $140/hour, let the world know so McLaren can send-in the airstrike on his shop.
Michael James also, he bought a new house, plus all the construction going on as well, and on top of that the other hoopties as well as family expenditures, he’d have to sell the McLaren at a loss
@@MichaelJames-lz7ni I would agree, though speculative on our part not knowing his financials or overall business strategy. IMO having the McLaren in the lineup, at a minimum, is an excellent loss-leader for long term marketing impact, brand value improvement, etc. Publicly voiding a super-car warranty on video does help to solidify the overall brand image he's developed and selling; carless, crazy, carefree, risk taking...all very (seemingly) marketable.
Watch his channel awhile longer, and you'll notice a pattern - cars bought at dealership auction 'for-dirt-cheap', only to be sent to his private mechanic to address a laundry-list of maladies that would have been addressed in any normal transaction by the seller prior to purchase. The McLaren is the only vehicle he owns with a warranty, and the only one Wizard will not touch per Hoovie's request because of it. Hoovie NEEDS that warranty, and he darn-well knows it. That warranty is the only reason why many of these cars aren't depreciating as-fast as a warranty-free Ferrari or Lambo.

Tucsonan Dude differance is that f.e. Porsche encourages you to take your car to the race track, and doesn't void the guaranty at all, so I don't see the point why Mclaren does void the guarantee, seems that the only reason is because they don't trust their own products.

Hoovie is “old money.” He doesn’t talk about his real job very much because he comes from a multimillionaire restaurant family and has cash cascading out of his pockets. He also filmed a real TV show recently, who knows how much he was paid from that.

$2000 for a hood doesn't sound too bad. Probably sell the old one for $500 as an ornament.

capybaras hell no. The high end euro carmakers cannot make a car without constant electric issues or a major drivetrain component that will make it to 100k miles without serious issues. Sad.

I have a feeling that your hood is probably aluminum. If it is aluminum what you are seeing is probably oxidation not rust.

I LOVE THIS!!! Tyler is constantly talking about how often his McLaren is in the shop. Doug Demuro gave the Huracan a better "weekend score" than the new 720s spider, specifically because of reliability. McLaren is finally getting beat up for their unreliable cars, and it's about time. Another guy who runs a channel almost had to get the government involved to get McLaren to buy back his car, because the thing was in the shop for like the first couple months he owned it, and then as soon as he got it back from McLaren, the same thing broke and was sent right back. That's exactly what happen to Tyler with his 12c/650ish thing. Keep being honest. I'll say names because nobody else will, but guys like Parker and Shmee will not be as candid about these sorts of things. Somebody has to.

At autoX, someone always has blue painter’s tape to share. It helps protect cones that often jump in front of the cars. Some use it to hide their license plate in case, for example, the warranty guy looks on the car forum for photos to try to deny your early clutch failure claim.
I had the same car two years back, mine was a rear wheel drive and it was crazy. also had some of the same issue on the hood but mine was the paint blowing up but after a little cosmetic fix it was back to better. at first I also though it was rusting issue but turned out it was bad paint from factory. they offered to fix it but the paint price was way too high so I decided to get it fixed at a body shop. sold the car a while back and it still in good body work.
Aluminum hood. It's oxidizing under the paint. The hood on my Chrysler Town and Country is doing the same thing. LOL!!
It looked like aluminum to me so that’s not rust it’s corrosion I can’t imagine them using steel on a lightweight sports car. I have the same issue on my 09 Taurus hood. 😂😂😂

This is a common issue on S197 mustangs too.

My 2014 Dodge Caravan had that rusting hood problem too. Chrysler took care of it, no charge. New hood! Now if they could fix my transmission to make it work right, that would be even better!

British cars usually come with corrosion pre-installed. It just activates later on.
The Aluminum Hatch on my 2000 Yukon XL 4X4 has the same corrosion bubbles... but its 12 years older, has 189,000 miles and is a primary salt road driver.

I've always known that owning a McLaren was trouble, but so far your videos have made owning one look even worse than i thought it would be. It really is true what they say.. ONLY buy a McLaren if you already have several cars, and are okay with it almost always being broken.
Looking at the new stair setup up close, i didn't quite get it. But the pan of the front of the house you did, made the idea behind the multi level staircase look good. I think it'll look hella cool when done :)
Race (noun) - a competition between runners, horses, vehicles, etc. to see which is the fastest in covering a set course.
Autocross (noun) - a competition in which cars are driven around an obstacle course, typically marked out by cones.
McLaren Warranty Computer - Triggered.
It might be "only a Civic", but for these kind of slalom events, smaller and lighter FWD hatches are the best. I knew a guy who drove a TRABANT (2 cylinder 2 stroke engine with 23 hp) in an American slalom event, and beat all cars under 350 HP

Cool that you got it out to dodge some cones. Definitely right about supercars typically underperforming there relative to, say, on a track. Typically it's the width, gear ratios, and tire selection that are the achilles heel. You just don't have to turn a Miata as much, lol.

Get a mould made while the hood is still good. Then you can pump out all the composite(CF/FG/Kevlar/paper mache) hoods you want!

Just get someone to sandblast the underside where it's rusting, then primer and repaint the bottom of the hood
Not sure if that's rust. I assume that hood is aluminum, the bubbling thing is corrosion because it was contaminated prior to painting at the factory. Common issue with aluminum parts not being taken care of properly prior to painting.
If you knock over one cone, the time doesn’t count.
Actually, it's an extra 2 seconds for most cones that you hit. There are a few that don't incur a penalty, and usually hitting any cone after the finish is a DNF.

It looks like it’s aluminum and it’s probably not rust but electrolysis from the body passing small electrical currents threw it.

My 20 year old Toyota Corolla LE has 0% rust and I live in north NJ. That is insane that a 7 year old $300,000 car is rusting. I live a half hour from the McLaren dealer in Ramsey NJ
That hood can be fixed easily but you have to do it now. Any longer and you would have to get all of the hood painted and that will cost a lot. As it is now, the hood can be sanded, treated and painted from the bottom only and that will save you a lot of money.

You should argue that it started to rust when still under warranty. Is it not feasible that the rust was there but not visible 2 years ago?

That’s a strange place to get rust. You may want to look into that a bit more to figure out how that happened (how water is getting in there).

Is the hood steel or aluminum? If it's aluminum, it's not rust. It's just a bad prep before painting at the factory.
All you need is a pre and post inspection and they will not void warranty.

Get some sandpaper and rust inhibitor and fix that yourself. It is on the underside of the hood, so it will not be seen except when you are storing something in the trunk.
Is the hood steel, or is it aluminium? Astons from the early 2000's had bubbling paint issues because of excessively thin paint which allowed water penetration through micro-pores below the full layers, even though all the bodywork is either composite or aluminium. Just a thought...

Isn't the bonnet aluminium? That bubbling would be due to oxidation under the paint. (Yes rust is an oxide but not on aluminium) it's poor prep. Aluminium oxide isn't really anything to worry about compared to rust other than the paint bubbling

Does replacing the hood yourself break the warranty? if not a few companies carbon hoods for the mp412c it's a bit pricey but you get some weight reduction and you won't have to worry about rust ever again
This model McLaren is by far the best looking (externally) of the bunch. The newer models have too many angles and trying to get that aggressive look like Lambo & Ferrari. As a result, it ends up looking like a space ship or flying saucer. I hope that cone scuff will buff out.
