And who decides what's in the "best interest of society"? The Germans were unprepared, disorganized, and it was their lack of action and bad decisions that lead to those deaths. Blaming the press for being there (and reporting what was happening) is like blaming the sun for shining.

Oh, please. You ever hear of the Watergate scandal and Washington Post's responsibility in uncovering it? Without the media, who holds governments to account? Who does the muckraking? Who does the fact-checking? Who reports on abuses, persecutions, inequities? You ever heard of Vietnam? When America's military lost Walter Cronkite's support, it lost the support of the American people. Or consider the media investigations of civil liberties violations in the war on terror. The list is endless. If you are unaware of these efforts to work in the public interest, you're absorbing the wrong media or you need to get an education. Cynicism doesn't protect you from having a moral responsibility to make fact-based opinions.

It must be remembered that Germany had no special units at that time, especially anti-terrorist ones. Therefore, untrained policemen (and a few hunters) were unable to deal with a group of Arab terrorists well trained by the Soviet secret services. German counterterrorism units were created only after this tragedy, also in cooperation with Israel. Meanwhile, the police officers protecting the Olympics were trained only to be nice and helpful, and to de-escalate tensions. They were supposed to remain invisible and operate very discreetly. They were also unarmed, there were no personal checks, no baggage checks, no clear division of powers and competences, etc. There were also frictions between the Bavarian government and the federal government and pressure from the Olympic Committee. The media only heated up the atmosphere, making money on sensationalism. Just like, for example, September 11, no one was prepared for something like this. It was something completely different and unexpected, and no one (including those from abroad) knew how to react.

That is only partially true. A psychologist created a security profile in advance. One of his scenarios was almost exactly what Black September executed. But no extra security measures were taken. Also every possible mistake was executed, even in cases where you just needed common sense and thinking and no special education. And the worst thing: Israel offered its help and German in its incredible arrogance denied and claimed to have it all under control.
I’m from Munich originally, living since 20 years in Israel. So, I have sources from both countries: true that Germany wasn’t prepared particularly well, but instead of being humble and smart, their arrogance and stupid decision created the perfect storm of violence.

1972 was the year my parents took me & my brothers to tour Europe in the months of April & May. We visited the Munich Olympic Village. Our flight home had a stopover in Lod airport in Tel-Aviv. We were not allowed to leave the plane after the passengers for T.A. disembarked. Through the airplane window, I saw a huge pile of rubble sitting next to a gaping hole in the airport terminal. We had no idea until we got home the next morning that the Japanese Red Army (terror group) had killed 26 people & bombed that airport just hours before our plane landed there. 😮

My mom worked at a newspaper in Rochester New York and they had a photographer there who had gotten into a lot of trouble he'd gone to an apartment fire and there was somebody trying to get out of a window and the building look like it was going to begin collapsing in the person yelled at the photographer to help them get out of the window and the photographer said just a second I need to take a picture so he took a picture of the person screaming as they're trying to get out of the building that was burning around them that their actual flesh was on fire at that point he took the picture and a second after taking the picture the building fell in on that person that they took the picture of. After that happened I'm not sure I can't recall the exact date or the time on that one but I do remember that there was this huge backlash because the idea there were a lot of people who said well it's not the reporters fault it wasn't the camera then fault that the building was going to collapse on them and it was like no that few minute that few seconds could have been enough to have saved his life but because that person was thinking more about hopefully winning appealous surprise which didn't happen what happened was he became somebody that even the newspapers wouldn't buy photographs from. Because the editors at that time have had a lot more sense than they have today. The media is all about creating hype just like what they're doing with regards to the people who are demonstrating and shutting down traffic all around America because it's something that the media itself is proving themselves to be on the side of the same people who are pushing these things so I have to say Qatar and Arabia anybody within the terrorist World they've got a bunch of money into the media because they're have it from the one side and that's all as a matter of fact I look up to see what they have on Munich in here if we own everything then why is there nothing in here about Munich why is there nothing as far as a documentary showing what actually happened. I guess so sick and tired of this b******* of people saying yes choose on everything and everything is always in our best interest and everything always shows us to be the greatest of everything it's not that's not reality we have more people hating us now than ever before there's no such thing as as the good Jew. It's all pushing the agenda of Qatar and Arabia.

@@rick188888 Yes they would. Unlike ISIS these groups did such operations to make prisoner exchange deals. The problem with government officials and decision makers is that they deal with the kidnappers with arrogance and don't take their threats seriously. Yes, they negotiate, but only to cover up their true intentions to use force against the kidnappers. The lives of the kidnapped seem to be the last thing that matters to the politicians. The strange about this incident is that the government released those arrested about a month after the failed rescue operation.

Just like with the Israeli hostages that are held captives by Hamas today, there is NEVER a justification for kidnapping innocent people from their homes, never. The Palestinians seem to always choose the way of murder, terror, kidnapping and massacres , even decades later, nothing is new. Even while knowing what the consequences would be for their own people. @advocateforaimassist8217 To be fair, Germans have always been hopeless in resolving hostage situations without bloodshed. Almost exactly 16 years after Munich, German commandos botched a hostage rescue operation where two robbers had taken a 19 (maybe 20) year old woman and held a gun to her head in a BMW. She was shot when the commandos started shooting at the robbers while the woman was seated just inches from them. Even 3rd world commandos could've done better.
