- The footage that didn't go into the trumpet test sounded too good not to post. I put the full length trumpet tests together for you to enjoy. I think i found the perfect spot to catch the sound of the 4a-ge echoing off the mountains. Man i love my 4age.
Car is 1987 Corolla FX16 GTS with 4age 20v Blacktop Swap.

I always find myself coning back to this when I'm bored, sad, or just downright glad that this engine exists. Hearing these sounds from a distance in a somewhat quiet atmosphere just freezes time for a few seconds and puts and big dang ugly smile on my face. If this doesn't sound any bit nice to your ears then you don't deserve to drink water. 👌
75mm is the most eargasmic 👌 good balance between the deep bass and high scream

The 100mm are noticeably louder irl, if you heard them, reckon you'd say 100mm 😉 mics don't to it justice
I would love to grab up a 4A-GE 20 valve to put in my 2WD Toyota Pickup, same year as the beautiful FX16 this guy has. I love the raw sound, no bullshit in the way. I’m so young and I’d love to have a 20v pickup :D

This is probably my favorite Japanese motor. I used to want a 2JZ and an RB26, but when I heard it, I was in love with the little 1.6 liter.

100mm is a screamer, but 75mm balances both screaming and deep engine sounds, I prefer the 75mm.
I find myself coming back to this every now and again. This is truly "EARGASMIC"
The corolla is getting some trick suspension parts installed and will back making sweet car sounds soon enough :)

God, the 4AGE is the best sounding 4 banger ever. Better than any 6 cylinder I've heard. It's actually the only engine smaller than a v8 I actually like to hear
The 1UZ and the 2UZ with ITB setups sound pretty nice. The 1UZ, though, sounds better.
What an awesome noise that is...turbos and boost are nice...but this...haven´t been able to hear any of that lovely scream for a long time....

God, I love this body style of Corollas...I had a Corolla FX myself as my first car after getting my license at age 17 in 2012. Even though it was carbureted and fitted with a 3 speed auto, it was the most fun car I’ve ever had. My folks sold it out of fear because I had wrecked my father’s car in January 2014, after having driven the FX with no problems or accidents for 2 whole years. Now, you literally CANNOT find them for sale anywhere.
You literally have my dream hot hatch...engine swap and all. If you ever decide to sell your own or find others that have one that want to sell it, either an FX or FX16, I would be eternally grateful to know about it. Thanks and have fun!
P.S.: that blacktop with the 100mm ITBs sounds nothing short of amazing.
Feels bad. An FX16, AW11, or AE86 would be amazing for me, though I'm getting a nice-looking 4WD Toyota truck which I might 2UZ-FE swap. Even stock, the 4A-GE and the 2UZ-FE sound phenomenal for Japanese engines.
2UZ-FE's probably one of the smoothest motors I've driven on. I hope your search goes well for one of these beautiful FX Corollas.

+sushipants What suspension setup are you running on your AE82? Dampers etc? Seems like it handles fast transitions really well for an older FF chassis.
The big thing that helped was the thicker front and rear sway bars. I installed new OEM shocks but they are getting worked too hard since doing the 20v swap (because the car goes a lot quicker). I have some cool suspension mods coming next, keep an eye out :)

The Kiwi's use 42mm Bilsteins and then adapt them for coilovers. Don't underestimate the need for a tiny bit of bodyroll in touge cars.

the 100's give great induction noise and the 50's give more overall engine sound. The 75's are the middle ground

Hey man! Just want to know what you use to record the ITB sounds under the hood? I have a cheap lavalier mic that just distorts like nothing cause it can't handle the decibels right in front of the trumpets, so looking at getting a good quality one. Cheers!

Nah you can have a good balance of both! Just need the right setup. I just have a Magnaflow sports 2' muffler on there atm which gives it a nice tone over the stock one, but trumpets still overpower it by miles. I'd like to get the Fujitsubo Legalis R exhaust system down the track.
TBD_TheBlackDog that's exactly what you need. The exhaust will very rarely sound that appetizing with such a small displacement so you need a heavy bias towards intake noise, but getting a nicely toned exhaust really helps bring it all together

You originally had a 16valve 4age. When you went to the blacktop did you notice any better throttle response? From it now having itbs?
Yes there was better throttle response. Was it night and day difference? I wouldn't say so, but the blacktop revs higher and has more power. The blacktop was freshly rebuilt which also helped :)

That’s the tricky part. Corolla FX’s are hard to find these days.
@@sushpants The NA-spec AE86's are hard to find, too. Try to get a sedan, those are easier to find. If you like mid-engine, I suggest the AW11 MR2.
