If your refrigerator is more than ten years old, check your water tank in the refrigerator side that holds the cold water. You may find it has crap in it. If so save yourself some time and replace the tank and all water lines. All of this is much easier than it sounds. I wasted a lot of time flushing my refrigerator. But if you can identify the source maybe a good flush is all you need.

You have to clean the actual line that feeds it from your wall as well. Bacteria can grow in there. Take out your filter and put a filter plug in there. Turn off water from the wall behind it. Remove the water hose. Stick that into a big bowl of vinegar and then run it through like you are poring water from the door. Do that for a min and then let it sit in your line for an hour. Then come back and run the rest of the vinegar through. Plug it back into the wall and turn the water on. Run a ton of water through the door until it no longer smells or tastes like any vinegar. Pull the plug out of your filter and then install a new one. Run more water like you do with a new filter.
Make sure to dump the first few batches of ice because this will clean the line that runs to your icemaker too.

Mine does not have a water line in the wall behind it. Just the main outlet to plug in the whole fridge. My water line is hooked up to my kitchen sink. In fact now that I think of it, all my homes have been that way.. how would you run it like that?

I’m always hesitant to use chemical cleaners around areas that you will be eating or drinking from. Vinegar is a really good cleaner that’s relatively safe. So, I’d likely clean my ice machine with that then let it dry.

4:47 My hole is really dirty and discolored when I cleaned it with a towel. I should probably use that tool to push it in and out to clean it.

I dont have a water or ice dispenser. But, Sarah this was great. I actually cleaned my ice trays & the bucket the cubes go in. Wow. The bucket needed some vinegar. Thanks GIRL 😅.

Hello. Thanks for the great idea! I have the same fridge as you and wondered if you’ve ever had any problems with the ice machine? We’ve had so many issues. Please let me know. Thank you

Can you spray the dawn vinegar potion on it to make the vinegar stay?

How to clean the water hose? Do you remove the old water filter before or after we clean the water hose? (I like your video. It is direct not talking unnecessarily!)

  • @karinaannks418

Couldn’t you use Dawn with the vinegar to hold it in place plus get extra cleaning power? Or oxiclean? Like oxiclean sanitizer? I feel like if you flush out your water (just like when you replace your water filter, you have to run the water for a little) and you could run a few cups of ice to flush out the ice parts.. dump down the drain with some lemon or oxiclean sanitizer( it freshens up the drain pretty good.. it’s the oxiclean that has the crazy blue weird lid that you have to squeeze together to open)

Didn't want to take mine apart so will give this a try! Our pipe part seems really grotty and it feels like we are drinking mould water :D Great video and fun too! Subscribed.

Clean the line by unplugging it from the back and placing it in vinegar rinse it thru the line. Then clean it out change the water filter.

I definitely need to do this! Can I beg you to discuss how to get hard water off of granite especially around the faucet handles? Obviously can’t use vinegar so what is the magic answer? I know you of all people have an answer. 😉

These days, they pop that ice maker into the refrigerator section. We just bought a new refrigerator and saw this.

The ice maker is actually in the refrigerator part. The freezer is a big drawer that pulls out from below.
