    That was a lot of variables to introduce at once - different shape, symmetrical, different wheelbase. Probably hard to tell what exactly was throwing you off. I’ve been really liking the Crailtap twin tip.

      WB and the characteristics of the kick/run aspects to me matter most for these boards...i can run flat or steep concave...as long as theres enough run to pop good halfcabs with, or kick/run profile for impossibles

      He also changed to a smaller truck size. The best way to ride an egg is to buy an egg .5 inches wider than your current popsicle. Then you add foot space not reduce it from the front and back

    Looks like on every Heelflip you were flicking off the side more. With the taper of eggs, you have to flick almost straight. Otherwise you get what feels like a ghost pop because your foot doesn’t grip the board at all. I would recommend one with a longer WB though for your legs. The 8.88 Avi is 14.125 and is 8.5 on the money over the trucks. Keep the vids comin brother 🤙🏽

    i started skating in the '80s. when popsicle boards came around i figured the big/steep end was the tail. so i rode boards backwards for a while. i still do ride the nose as tail sometimes, depending on what i'm doing. i don't think i'd like symmetrical boards though, i like having the option of which end to use as tail on a standard shape

      I start riding my nose as my tail too eventually when skating a deck, and I gotta say the way it pops riding it backwards is such a crazy awesome experience for me. Makes me wonder why it doesn’t feel or pop like that when riding my board normal

    • @anhiirr
      @anhiirr 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      IMO it seems more "at home" for contest riders chaining/doing tricks that dont want that HEADGAME of if theyre setting up with their board backwards etc...if theyre doing bigspin boards to fakie..etc into cab lips etc. I see the value much higher at that "level" than for most of us. PLUS i see the level of "value" in a twin tail 8.38 the typical width i ride for standard shapes...as equal as getting a shaped/bowl/slappy board etc...from a sick graphic/company i want to back financially etc. As a general skater its all the same to me and whether i can afford to add it to a quiver. Its just when you have 159 indys and 6.1 ventures in rotation as well as some stage IV and hollow mids...you have a few options/sizes and often have the perfect trucks/wheels for the next shaped/all rounder setup. Things like that jump higher in the list than a 8.38 twin tail that im generally going to be "PUSHING" it with on obstacles or trying to re-live my youths bag of tricks etc...and id rather just put that level of effort into learning a new shape/setup on larger/air/speed type features...or bowls.

    I have short legs and a 14" wb with Aces really messes with me. I think if you tried it with different trucks you'd have a better experience. As someone that can heelflip but cant kickflip, on an egg or football shape, set up your feet more like an ollie. The tapered kicks dont work well with traditional heelflip foot positioning so you need more of your shoe on the board to compensate

    I skated big boards in the 80's, of course...that's all we had. I never liked the 7.5 board era. I LOVE skating an 8.5 popsicle now. At 49 years old, I really can't afford that learning curve time to even attempt to switch it up, I feel like. I'm very used to my Darkroom 8.5 and 55mm wheels. Definitely been seeing a lot of younger guys rockin' the egg shapes and "shaped" boards lately. Which is super rad, but I'm just gonna stick with whatever already works for me at my age. Glad you're showing us content with this egg board, though. It's definitely interesting to see.

    fell in love with the popsicle/egg shape when i rode a lot of baker boards back in the day. Got pretty deep in the dm's with hewitt about setups or fun all-round setups and 8.38 w/ 159 indys was a subject of discussion we got pretty hyped on. Then grimple started making 8.38 and 8.62 egg shapes for a few runs. And i thought my love for the egg shape/profile couldnt get any deeper. I swear by this shape not too hyped on the nose/tail size on the real/ishod twin tail. But after a few years/getting into my old head stages....that black label jake reuter custom egg 9" shape is calling to me...i never got my hands on the 8.62 grimple egg sadly. I never rode 8.25 boards...bc the second i saw i could get my hands on a flat concave 8.38 baker/egg....i rode those for a bit...up until they stopped pressing that shape/profile. It was like an 8.38 between the bolts....but tapered/egged to have a nose/tail closer to an 8.13....and that setup was a hoot. Id say the 9" reuter egg would probably clear up some of the heelflip issue but you have to flick more forward or drag more before the bolts and IMO a wider deck helps have more contact/surface to initiate with. At least the lighter trucks help with a larger setup. For a flat/slappy/funbox/pyramid setup id say consider ventures...but if youre in love with turning/turnability...i wouldnt leave the aces far. Though ventures/thunders do open up a lot more potential for fliptricks...at a major cost to what aces/indys offer for turning/speed chaining tricks wall to wall etc.

    bought an egg shape board for fun because they looked so cool and different. skated 3 days with it, couple of times just riding around and one at the skate park, definitely feels weird and "wrong" in a sense. after decades of lookingdown and seeing a rounded nose, i feel like the visual shape of the egg is throwing me off more than anything. also the nose and tail have a steeper angle than what im used to as well...
    there are some great things about it but some bad as well, for example flip tricks i feel stay in place a lot better (at least that was my perception) i guess due to the mass of the board being more compressed in the middle where the board is widest, but even though the nose and tail were about the same surface area as my 8.125 board, they felt so much smaller because of how narrower they get.
    all in all i think that i will be moving to a 8.5 popsicle board shape for my normal skating and i'll probablhy setup the egg as a fun cruiser with bigger wheels because i dont see the point in skating it to do tricks.

      @@256k_ man as it turned out it wasn’t egg boards that were the problem, it was the dimension on this specific board in the video that threw me off. This one is almost a mini with a shorter length and WB than normal and for whatever reason I didn’t really pay attention to that when I was buying it, I just saw 8.75 egg and went in. Also I was skating AF1’s which shrunk the WB down to

    • @256k_
      @256k_ หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dadboard really? interesting! im also considering giving another eg board a try this time even bigger (like 9.25)
      for me the 14.3" WB was a perfect sweet spot but it's the overall shape/nose/tail that was throwing me off, they taper soo much they feel smaller than my 8" popsicle. maybe this is why people tend to go with a much bigger sized egg, to compensate the tapering of the nose and tail.
      at this point ive been buying decks left and right trying to find the sweet spot but i'm starting to get sick of this board madness and just wanna settle into a good shape and size and just stick with it. pretty sure 8.5" and 14.25 WB popsicle is the sweet spot for me. but those eggs sure look and feel cool to ride no lie

    I believe the taper is throwing off your heel flips. You can't really see where your heel flicks of the taper. With the kick flip, you can still see the set up better. Basically, you may be relying on muscle memory only for the heel flip. Just my thought. Anyway, I love the channel and your skating.

    • @dadboard
      @dadboard  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So I’ve kind of noticed the same thing with kickflips and heel flips. If you try it again, try pulling your foot more towards the middle of the board.
    Usually I hang my toes off of the edge for heelflips, but on my egg I had to keep my toes more on the board. Basically, I flicked my heel right at the end, and because of the taper I was missing the flick. So it helped to just pretend my board was smaller than it was. I hope that makes sense haha.

      Idk dude I even rode a 10” heroin board for a little bit and I could flip it around. Something about the egg and how short it is just threw me off. 10" board is big, I guess I missed that video and am wrong about that. Makes sense that the oval corners would make a difference. There's that concave spot above the wheels on your typical skate deck that isn't going to be the same on the egg.

    I’m a giant egg head, bud, and I can tell you right now they are not for everyone. General pros of them for me are they help scoop tres, help my kickflips and heel flips not be so mob, less surface area on the nose means less friction and longer grinds/slides for crooks/nose/tail slides. And most importantly is wide with a shorter wheel base. I rode that exact deck in the video, and i think it’s an 8.88 im pretty sure. Most boards around 8.75 and higher will have a 14.5ish wheel base. I NEED a 14.25 or lower (14.25 being my sweet spot tbh) i have short legs man, im hurtin for a short board that i can just whip around and transition and ledges but also be nice and wide for control. I love these eggs, they were made for me, but not for everyone lol.
    Also I can say that the short wheel base was fucking up your heel flips. Heel flips take a bit more precise timing and a wheel base change will fuck that all up. PLUS you were riding aces which have the shortest wheel base of any truck too, so you had 14.0 and aces thats an ultra tiny

    I would think it would take longer to get used to the new trucks and lightness of them more than the board.
    I have tried some light trucks but I need a little bit of the weight. The weight makes up for my lack of board control and keeps the board under me.
    Try heavier trucks before giving up on the board. That being said, you have for more skill and experience than I will ever have so do your thing 😂.
    I have only landed heelflips. Not a single kickflip has been landed in my life.

      I’m pretty used to swapping out trucks at this point 😂 the hollows don’t even make a really big difference to me compared to standards. I switch between wheel sizes and shapes and board width so much I’m just in setup madness at all times it feels like. Eventually I’ll dial it in but then probably get bored and change something else drastically. I bet you can land a kickflip in a few weeks if you just go full on rocky training mode. I remember being outside for _hours_ upon hours trying to get them to work when I was about 14. I still struggle with them to this day but I find the more I do them the more I land them. Don’t ever give up, man. I’ll make you a deal, if you work on kickflips I’ll work on hard flips. I’ve only landed two in my entire life and feel the same way as you do about kickflips. We can even organize something for our channels and do some type of collab. Lmk I’m super down for a challenge

    Hey man! Big fan of your channel. I can definitely relate on the weird heelflip situation. I’ve had a very similar experience. Heels are my go to out of the car. My experience has been… I always ride a 14.25 Wb. I’ve been on and off of egg shapes for a couple of years. What I’ve found is that, because I’m so used to the 14.25 wb, when I’ve tried a 14wb heelflips were less consistent. On top of that, here’s the other weirdness. It seems you love Ace, which they are amazing! Shout out Joey! With Ace trucks though, because of their geometry, they shorten your wb even more. So you’re 14wb on your skateboard now, is probably more of a 13.75/13.38 now. I’ve tried Aces, but Ventures are my trucks. I noticed when I was riding aces, on 14.25/14 WB’s my heels became less and less. Went back to ventures on a 14.25 wb on popsicles and eggs, all good. It’s not the shape, it’s the wb and the truck geometry. Sorry for the super nerd rant, just wanted to let you know it’s not you… ha! Great channel man! I cruise through Sac every now and then driving to the City from Portland. Would love to sesh sometime… Thanks for the great vids!

      Yeah with AF1’s the wheelbase was probably closer to 13.5” which is tiny. I might get some thunders down the line and try this board out again just as like a slappy setup, that way I won’t even click the tail and lose my mind

      I’ve been thinking of trying some Thunders. Love that they’re lower than most trucks on the market. I do the same - one just slappy board (no clicking). It’s a 9.5 Heroin egg. Then my “everyday setup” 8.5 Jk Industries. Both 14.25 wb.

    Heal flips hit the side of the nose and eggs are a little pointy. Also nose and tail slides will be Strange if the nose and tail aren't wider to compensate for it. The egg has to be around 3/4 wider than your popsicle to make the nose wide enough no have a good feel for me. I rode a 8.5 with 159s and my first newer egg was 9.125 and I had no weird issues with it. I currently mess with 10 inch eggs with titanium 169s on 52mm wheels. The egg fever blew up and I'm currently building an 10.75 egg set up because things tend to get out of hand once the madness starts running 😆
