      Eggs are the way. The popsicle died for me after I skated Andy Anderson's egg board. I like that razor egg board also. If it is symmetrical it lasts longer and I don't have to think about wich end is which. I can just throw it down and go.

    One of my favorite shapes of all time was an egg shaped deck from Black Label around '06-08. I believe it was a tad over 9 wide as well but was so much fun to skate and good amount of concave and kick so was a blast on curbs or whatever. I still love a good shaped deck but I also grew up skating them as I'm currently 43 and just picked a board back up for first time since my 20's.

    I started skating shaped boards this year and am currently riding the Heroin Avi guest model board, I would say I’ve def gotten “better” idk if it’s the shape itself that helps but part of me thinks it’s just the hype/vibe/feeling of riding a different board shape, like it brought skating back to life, made me wanna skate more like the Earth Goblin video and start doin transition stuff. Just havin fun goofin around. I cringe when I stand on a popsicle board or a board that’s under 8.8-8.9 now it feels awkward

      Yeah it's definitely hard to tell, especially when you would be progressing in skateboarding the more you skate no matter what board shape you are riding!

    I disagree with the implied premise (your title and opening statement) that skaters might favor a particular design necessarily because it makes you skate better- I think whatever pluses or minuses it may have for everyone- it is definitely is a refreshing change from the ubiquitous popsicle shape. Increased performance is not necessarily a primary consideration in all matters.

    • @user-ed8zf5zv5j
      @user-ed8zf5zv5j ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say that the implied premise has as much actual resulting effect on one's skating as a motherly figure telling her son to skate better. Thus, it could be that one's mother thinking her own son skates like a female genitalia would forego any real influence of any board shape.

    • @zhaoyisha1409
      @zhaoyisha1409 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If any skateboard product (trucks, decks, wheels, etc) allow you to skate better, and it is at the same price as other products, why would you not get it? Bought a carbon fibre board at discount, it is absolutely amazing and love that extra pop.

    • @jamponyexpress7956
      @jamponyexpress7956 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zhaoyisha1409 I never said that you should not get something that measurably improves you skating- all that I'm saying is that its possible, that if a products improvement to your skating is only marginal (or actually takes something marginal away from your skating), then the decision to use it could be based on other factors- such as an aesthetic preference, for example. Look at someone like Mark Gonzales (One of the main originators of modern skate-boarding who is in his 50s- he rides any board shape-- because he is mostly interested in having fun- not necessarily progression.

    • @LeonPaxton

    I'll be 42 in sept, started skating at the age of 8 😄 (on a what's called 'penny board' today made of plastic) and what should I say...did never really quit although I was never near as good as you are.
    First popsicle shaped deck was a Madrid in 94/95 iirc (but I think this was a faked deck since I find NOTHING not even a pic on the net).
    Had one with a slight egg shape but I can't recall the maker 😔.
    Never paid attention to shape or concave...size. Back in the 90's I was happy if it didn't break after 5min 😄 (mostly the users fault) or didn't become kind of soggy.
    However the board with the slight egg shape was fun to cruise for me but I ruined my shins trying flip tricks on it.
    A guy from the same school did borrow me his deck for a weekend and I was so stunned...Every ollie was so easy to do, almost effortless, even higher than I used to do them!
    27...28 years later I can't remember the brand nor the exact model.
    It was yellow and It has a strange, slightly to see kind of rip stop pattern under the graphic. Name was Richter...or Hoffart...I desperately wanted to skate this very deck all the years after. Can't remember the setup either.
    Didn't want to go off topic but from before skating this deck I thought...that small differences in size / shape / concave wouldn't matter.
    But as a teen from the 90's 😄🤷🏻‍♂️ what's to expect.
    Informative content!!!

      foa sry for my bad english...thanks for your kind words but I don't see myself as a vet of any kind. the plastic penny board like thing when I was 8 was just a toy for me and my first step into actually liking this kind of thing :)...rode it one or two years and that was it.
      tried snakeboarding when I was 15 or so...was fun to ride the thing :) and even today I can stand on that thing and ride it as back in the day. I wish my skating stayed the same 😄 although ollie and kickflip were the only tricks I could do. I never learned how to shove nor other as basic considered tricks.
      Had to buy stuff from my pocket money and decks / hardware wasn't cheap here in Europe.
      My blue T-Lite (?) trucks...omg how proud I was having these 😄.
      I still ride but just cruising. Not because I'm not physically not able to do more than that but alone...no friends doing the same...
      It's not really fun growing older.
      Enjoy your life, enjoy love and enjoy what you do!
      Hats off to your skating! I was never even nearly as good as you are.
      My favourite board was the one I had for a weekend, borrowed from a former schoolmate. I would give my arm to ride this board again or at least finding it.

    Andy Anderson had kind of an egg shape. They said something about the sides would help prevent crack if ran into a wall or something. As far as a double kick design, I'm not sure. I have heard Heroin boards aren't the toughest.

    Eggs = Better, Yes Totally. The last 2 decks I have skated have been 10” Heroin Eggs, they are the best. I can’t go back to skating a paddle pop after skating an Egg Shape. I have also got a 9” inch Egg Deck (Jackson Pilz Enjoi), the 10” is way better.
