Loved this Song. And they were always fun to watch on TOTP. Roland the front man. And the wobbly legs of Bassist David Steele and guitarist Andy Cox, both from the ska band The Beat (where they honed - like many British ska bands, the skill of playing their instruments in tune whilst jumping and dancing with the beat) always great value.
Such a nostalgic song came out when I was 14. I forget about it for a few years and then when I hear it again, it’s as fresh as ever and I’m listening to it for days again. I love music like that
Oh god this brings back some memories... At the time I was 17 and going out this amazing 18 year old girl, she loved FYC. On a date in Peterborough, HMV were putting up 2 promo posters for this, she went 'those would look good in my bedroom'. I looked around just one assistant with my back towards me, so I lent over and pulled the pair off the wall. She was so happy !
Prepare to be amazed by the story about how this song was made! The lead singer of Fine Young Cannibals once said in an interview that he took the head off a snare drum and started whacking it with a wooden ruler, recording it through a Shure 57 microphone. He also said he cranked the nob all the way up on the [API 550] EQ to around 1 kHz to the point where it was starting to sound more like a crash. He also blended that sound with a snare which was already formatted into the 12-bit Linn drum machine. Then the sound was pumped, processed and sampled through an Auratone speaker set upside down atop another snare drum, which rattled the metal snares and gave some ambience and even more high end sound. The whole thing was limited slightly and then sent to a track on a roll of Ampex 456 running on a Studer A800 at 15 ips. Only a slight amount of reverb was added to the track later on. The sonic result was closer to a hollow wood block sound than any snare found on a conventional rock record.
I remember seeing this on totp first time I watched totp. Thought they were American, now that I'm older I've realized only us brits made pop songs this good in the 80s
I can't stop The way I feel Things you do Don't seem real Tell you what I got in mind 'Cause we're runnin' out of time Won't you ever set me free? This waitin' 'round's killin' me She drives me crazy Like no one else She drives me crazy And I can't help myself I can't get Any rest People say I'm obsessed Everything you say is lies But to me that's no surprise What I had for you was true Things go wrong, they always do She drives me crazy Like no one else She drives me crazy And I can't help myself I won't make it On my own No one likes To be alone She drives me crazy Like no one else She drives me crazy And I can't help myself She drives me crazy Like no one else She drives me crazy And I can't help myself She drives me crazy Like no one else She drives me crazy And I can't help myself

This song is just a bop and Roland "you drive me crazy". Please watch him in season 2 episode 4 of Heartbeat, I think the episode is called Over The Hill, his acting skills are incredible
I read in a magazine years ago that several pop stars came out of semi retirement after seeing this performance claiming they were rejuvenated. Can't remember who they were though!
You know it's a great pop song when people can clap on the beat. No one claps on the beat with pop music anymore, in fact you can't follow the beat, since young singers and rappers have little to no sense of rhythm and melody. If they can't wrap it around a 70 BPM, they're stuck. Real pop music plays at 110 BPM so people can clap and dance in time and the melody and instruments can breathe.
No way that sound is coming out of that big snare. Pretty obvious that this is mimed. Probably not by choice, however: I imagine people wanted to hear the recorded version.
It is not my teenage story, but I remember this song very well, and I just LOVE it!!
I remember this song back then she made crazy ''SONIA'' and she still does
Well, holy sh!t. What a tune. My childhood right there.
I like when it goes from the generic 80's buffer music to FYC. It basically time travels ten years into the future.
That’s a really great song.
Escuto até hoje, lindo e música também, amooo❤
Catchy tune, and it's a great classic song.
Brilliant

I can't stop
The way I feel
Things you do
Don't seem real
Tell you what I got in mind
'Cause we're runnin' out of time
Won't you ever set me free?
This waitin' 'round's killin' me
She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
And I can't help myself
I can't get
Any rest
People say
I'm obsessed
Everything you say is lies
But to me that's no surprise
What I had for you was true
Things go wrong, they always do
She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
And I can't help myself
I won't make it
On my own
No one likes
To be alone
She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
And I can't help myself
She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
And I can't help myself
She drives me crazy
Like no one else
She drives me crazy
And I can't help myself
This video drives me crazy.
Is it the bad mime?

HAPPY 63RD BIRTHDAY ROLAND GIFT

January 19 1989. Was on a fishing processor heading to Dutch Harbor Ak. Lol
Freshman year at my university .
It was a jam .

Play back al palo!
The drummer with a 2022 hairstyle back in 1989, what does that say about style today?
Not much.
These boys were ahead of their time.
Yet another device U come up My
Unfortunately 95% of songs on playback / mimed back then, but it was becoming more live after the muck up of Martha's Harbour - Killing Eve in 1988.
All About Eve
BRAZIL🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷2023👏👏👏👏
"broadcasted" isn't a word
igual va LIKE!ªªªªªªªªªªªª
The program of playback
This is playback, but the song is amazing :)
Bill & Ted were better air guitar players than the two guys up front, but I still enjoyed the performance.
Lol I always thought he said she drives me crazy, with long blonde hair lol.
It's too bad they didn't just capture the live sound on this.
VB~J
Björn & Mucha mit „I“
The guitarist, the bassist and the drummer just look like triplets
Wack banger
Lipsyncing at its best
I bet the drummer got smoke inhalation.
😂
Black lung
Hahaha the drummer isn’t even playing 1/100th of the correct notes

You can see the singer lip sinking but I still think this is a great song.
TOTP was mostly playback because of the speed of production and number of acts performing. No time for all the setup or risking things going wrong.
Lip synced for sure.
Total playback and everyone dissin Milli Vanilli.
The issue with Milli Vanilli wasn't using playback, it was that they didn't sing even on the original recordings.
Exactly, Milli Vanilli were frauds.
But they had a great name tho.
