      Out of interest, how are you using the two SQ-1s? I’d wondered about getting a second SQ-1, because it’s such a nice sequencer, but wondered how I’d combine it with the other SQ-1.

      @@monsieurmurphy it's such a fantastic zest application. I use them both to control the neutron primarily. I now have the Beringer 2600 and have been able to sync some really interesting manipulation effects that can be syncopated in very interesting manors when skipping steps on the sq-1. Would you be interested in me posting a TH-cam video on how I use them? I am a newbie to posting videos of my musical experiments so bear with me :)

      @@ShawnyDsMusic I would definitely be interested (and I’m sure others would, too). I teach design at The School of Design (a design school I established after twenty years of teaching design at Belfast School of Art). I’m enjoying working on design videos there, and in my experience, the more videos you plan, record and publish, the better you become.
      One thing that’s missing - in my experience of music tutorial videos - are videos that cover basics, i.e. how do I connect my SQ-1 and Volca Bass? How do I start with MIDI cables, etc.. I’ve been toying with posting videos of this - super basics - myself.

    I cannot get the gate signal to trigger the envelope gate on the neutron. Pitch works with vca open. It's seems so simple but I've never gotten it to work.

    • @synthesizer83
      @synthesizer83  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, I didn't use any special trick here, just plugged the gate output into the env gate input of the Neutron. But - the SQ1 has a hidden menu where you can set the gate polarity, perhaps I did this some time back.

    I’d like to see the transposition ‘feature’ of the SQ-1 explained somewhere. I’m aware that it does it, but it’s always seemed arbitrary and random- certainly not controllable.

    • @synthesizer83
      @synthesizer83  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quite sure it cannot transpose... I am just using the parallel mode here and feed the A & B cv to the two VCOs of the Neutron. The bottom sequence has only one step activated, therefore it looks like there is transposition going on, but it isn't.

      It can run two sequences in parallel, but no transposing. In this patch I used the parallel mode to have one individual sequence for each of the two oscillators.

    • @PiesliceProductions

      you can hack the transpose if you send a midi note to the unit while the sq1 sends cvs. The midi note is the root of the cv range

    Hello, my SQ-1 arrived today and I have a question regarding midi output. Testing the unit I'm using only the supplied midi adapter that came with the unit. I connected it to my Novation Bass Station 1 via USB cable only. It only plays sequence B not sequence A? Is my unit faulty or is this normal behavior using the supplied midi adapter? Found nothing in the manual regarding. Thank you .

    • @synthesizer83
      @synthesizer83  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! The SQ1 outputs sequence B one midi channel higher than sequence A. Factory settings are sequence A on channel 1 and sequence B on channel 2. Perhaps your synth receives on midi channel 2?

    Sounds great!
    Maybe you can help me. I want to run the sq1 in parallel to create some polymeter stuff where A is playing a 7 note phrase and B is playing say a 8 note phrase. Do I need 2 synths (one to play A and one for B)?
    Also can I do this with just 1 synth ? I have a ms20 (the new remake) and I can not seem to have A and B triggering separate...it seems to ignore phrase B no matter how I wire it up.
    Maybe if I had 2 nts-1's I could have a cheap solution to play A and B separate for interesting polymeter stuff? Or would the WASP be a cheap solution that I could hook up to play A and B separate from the sq1?
    Thanks so much

    • @synthesizer83
      @synthesizer83  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! The SQ1 sends channel A and B on two different MIDI channels, so you have to find a synth that listens to more than one MIDI channel - or you polychain 2 synths (works with most of the Behringers, don't know if the NTS-1 can do that, I guess not). Otherwise you can use the cv-outs of the SQ1 and find a synth which is polyphonic and cv-controllable - don't know which would be a good one for that, as I normally use a modular for polyphonic patches.

      Thanks! I would have to try again to be sure, but when I remember right, it doesn't work for the paraphonic sequencing. Either the Sq1 only outputs one note at a time or the Neutron only accepts one note via midi.

  • @andredatele
    @andredatele 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see you're driving the neutron with the CV out from SQ1. How do you deal with the Neutron oscillators tuning? I always need to play a midi note into my neutron, otherwise the oscillators are tuned to their lowest, regardless of the CV input. I'd like to use CV exclusively, wonder if you also face this and if so how did you solve it?

    • @synthesizer83
      @synthesizer83  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's strange... I use no midi here, cv only. Do your oscillators show no reaction to the cv at all?

    • @andredatele
      @andredatele 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@synthesizer83 in the meantime I had more time with the Neutron. The unit responds to CV just fine, but I find that the oscillators are naturally tuned to a very low frequency. Using a midi note helps to bring it up and makes it possible to use the 0-1V range on the SQ-1. If I don't use any midi input I have to crank up the pitch knobs of the oscillators and use the much wider 0-5V range on the SQ-1.
      EDIT: It looks like I can select the key range (and thus the CV=0V note on the Neutron app). It was set to C0, C2 provides a much better (much more audible at least) starting point!

    • @synthesizer83
      @synthesizer83  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andredatele Yes it's tuned very low in the standard setting, I always use the "global" tuning mode of the OSC's with all three range LEDs lit - though a bit hard to tune then. Will also try the app then!
