I only have experience with a marshal mg25 it's my first amp and I'm most likely gonna sell it and buy an orange amp. Some people's stance in the mg series is that they are about below or at average for the price.

Yeah, absolutely!
does it work well with recording and distortion?
Yes it's good for mic'd up recording. I don't know about direct rec thru headphone jack. Amp takes pedals really well. It's a good pedal platform amp
Yes, the headphones jack is also a cab simulated line out. I don't know why Orange doesn't tout that fact more.
