    Orange amps are weird for me because I really like the little cheapish ones more than some of the expensive ones. I remember trying the 35rt against the rocker 15 combo and being very underwhelmed by the rocker 15, cause it sounded the same as the 35rt and was less loud for like 3 times the price! That's the great thing about almost all the Oranges, they all sound like Oranges. They're not for everyone but c'mon, you need some of that vitamin C.

      That‘s EXACTLY the comment I needed. I just bought the Crush 35rt and was wondering what the Rocker 15 sounds like.
      I love the 35rt. And it is affordable too.

      The Orange sound is consistant. I took a Orange Crush Mini and attached it to a Randall 35w cab and it still sounded like a full grown Orange. It also improved the sound of the mini as its tiny speaker was kinda like a jar of angry bees by itself.

      @@TroyNaumu808 Yes, this little amp truly surprises when hooked to a cab. I'm using mine with a Marshall Ori 2X12 slanted. Somehow, the mini truly likes the often not so like 70/80. Truly something to try. I like the mini so much I bought a spare.

    You're right when you say we all like different stuff. I tried out the Marshall DSL 1 & Blackstar HT-1r yesterday as I needed my first home guitar amp, as I've decided to give guitar a go after 30 years of playing bass. Ended up walking out with the Orange Crush 20rt.

    Got one of these recently and always value Elmo’s opinion. With this one it needs at least 4 hours to break it in and it really does transform the od channel. It’s not subtle, all that fizzy crackle gets tamed. Also take back off, fills the room. Sounds really lovely now.

    I bought this amp and it sounds great.
    Thanks for your video.
    Despite your dislike I thought it sounded good on your video but I was worried that the clean tone was nasal
    In person I was impressed by the warmth and tone. I could play my terrible jazz and rock happily;
    thrashing away at rough chords and ripping through solos with masterful inability.
    The Clean tone is not glassy but natural and you can adjust the bass, medium, and treble tones to get a brighter tone or soften it.
    The gain is flexible and the reverb is too.
    Its sound great with my Strat and an Epiphone Les Paul.
    This Amp was £139 so there is bound to be better - the 35rt, the c60 etc Boss, etc etc etc who cares my Strat now sounds great.
    Again many thanks for your work.

    Great demo, thank you. I like how you didn’t make it sound ‘boxy.’ Any decent amp over 10 watts is going to sound really good in a small room. I have a Mooer Hornet 15w and it’s very loud & clear, with a great tone. ‘Practice’ amps have really improved since the 80s. I used to have a “Crate” amp and it wasn’t anything close to these. I was about to buy another Mooer Hornet for a ‘dry/soaked’ stereo effect when I saw a 20RT for $150 & ordered it. It’s also Ola ‘chug’ approved. Can’t wait to fire it up! ☕️

    I just bought the 35RT and i think it sounds great. Although my eq is very different. I'm actually liking the dirty channel with gain below 12 o'clock in a sad attempt at emulating an "edge of breakup", which is kinda working. I use a Les Paul Epiphone and on the neck pickup it sounds beautiful (to me anyways). Reverb on 12.
    I haven't even tried my pedals on it yet, as i'm having a ton of fun with this setting while also learning its tones and stuff on its own. But i think i'll go with pedals on the clean channel, which i've heard is better in this amp.
    BTW, the 35RT comes with an FX LOOP.

The truth is you were being TOO KIND! lol. Great clean channel, reverb - but terrible terrible gain channel on this.. thx for helping me get my radar up on this one!

      If you are getting this as a new player and you have an epiphone les Paul or a super strat I think it makes more use of this amp. This amp sounds bad with my SSS strat compared to something like a Yamaha thr’s high gain channel which has more range for an SSS but it’s fantastic with a Les Paul on the dirty channel.

    I don’t know, I have the 12 watts version and I think the drive sounds good. I think if you turn the amp up really loud, add treble - then turn the volume knob on your guitar way down you can get really useful warm tones.

      I stress this all the time, crank the amp and slowly increase the volume of the guitar until you are in heaven, I grew up with the volume on the guitar always 10 and could never get a good tone on any amp so great point.

    My first experience of Orange amps was as a student at university in the early 1970's where my local music store in Leamington allowed me a 10 minute blast on a 100 watt head and 4x12. To say I was stunned by the sound that came out is to understate it - just truly amazing. Could I survive with something this small as a result ? Probably not :-( .

      It’s a good amp if you can find one for about 60 or 70 on the Facebook market. I wouldn’t buy it brand new, I’d prever something else with a few more options on my controls. But I do love the sound of it. It had a real good clean and dirty, if you are fine with that I’d recommend it, unless you have petals for reverb and delay.

    I've recently bought a 20RT - and I've gigged with it in small halls! Not a lot wrong that I can hear - especially with the clean channel - but the 'dirty' channel is best described as 'slightly cloudy'; I use it, with a non-latching expression pedal from my keyboard, as a secondary clean channel with a bit of an edge for when I want to do a quick solo instead of rhythm. I know they like to market them as a 'rocker's machine... but I love the sound for blues and jazz. I might eventually get a 35RT or maybe the acoustic version - but I'm more than happy with the 20RT for the time being. If I want more sounds then I can use pedals or a modeller in front of it!

    It sounds fantastic on my monitors.
    Beautifully recorded;
    Sweet true cleans and convincing crunch, tons of sustain, quite tubey on the front pickup, cleans up beautifully
    and reverb that goes from tasteful studio desk reverb almost to surf spring.
    The Orange does not sound like it is “trying”, the Orange just is.
    Having made the Orange 20RT sound incredibly good,
    with his Strat and AKG414C parking its sound not so far from classic *Fender amps,
    are Elmo’s conclusions intended as irony ?

    • @stanfordmitchell5142
      @stanfordmitchell5142 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just bought myself an Orange Crush 12.
      Yes the 6inch speaker is too small and boxy for most, although there are many sweet spots that do not sound small and boxy, especially the cleans and with care many of the crunch tones are fine. Sounds really fender with my old 1976 Fender Tele, brings out all the 57 pickup tones from my Gibson SG.
      But it sounds so electric and alive, way more flexible than my Fender Champion 600 valve practice amp, and way more convenient and fun for bedroom use than my Vox AC15.
      The line out from the Crush 12 into my Mackie Mixer with some desk reverb into my Sennheiser HD650 and it sounds better than most of my £200 pedals e.g. my sans amp stuff, and whilst not quite as classy as my Seymour Duncan twin tube classic, the Crush gets more tones from how the guitar is played, without having to change channel or twiddle knobs. I suppose it makes me think of my Crazy Tubes Falcon.
      It is an awesome preamp. I don't recognise the Orange sound like others do, so to me it is half way between a Fender (it can deliver the midrange crack of a Fender) and a Vox, basically it is pure vintage crunch and fairly neutral, kinda boutique.
      It really does deliver crunch and drive that clean up when you play lightly but still sound singing and electric without much drop in volume, better than some valve amps.
      So grateful for Adrian Emsley giving us this kinda solid state.

    Elmo, can you try to find some nice amps around $350 that can handle cleans and dirty for electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, uke, etc.? In other words, I never have seen any amps reviews that examine whether they're suitable as all-around option for most stringed instruments.
    I have been told that bass guitars often distort and even break guitar amp speakers due to their lower frequencies. Conversely, people have told me that most guitars and other stringed instruments sound thin and wonky on bass amps. I have only seen a few demos of amps that can handle nearly all stringed instruments, but they're often pricey or way too many watts for people who play at home and/or go to small gigs.
    Can you help find amps that are 50-60w (give or take), costing around $150-350 that can handle nearly all stringed instruments? Please consider solid state/tube amps, modeling amps, amps that pair nicely with pedals, amps that don't require pedals, and all else. In other words, the sound quality is primary, the features are secondary -- but still important considerations! Perhaps you can test all amps with acoustic guitars, bass, uke, etc. as part of the demos like you do with electric guitars, or you could make separate videos bearing these instruments in mind.
    Tyvm for considering my idea for future videos! Much appreciated! 🙏🏻😇🎸🔊🎶🤘🏻

    C’mon! Why say you’re going to review an amp and not tell us why you don’t like it? Some people may find the same things that you find important, or not. I only get that you don’t like the gain but again what about it is lacking? These are low price practice amps and newbies are looking for a well thought out and presented review.

    I have exact 10 pedals. All are true bypass. Will this amp handle them well? I really like this over the blackstar marshall or something else! Would appreciate your answer because I'm thinking of ordering it.
    Here's my board : tuner---comp---digitech whammy---wah---noise gate---big muff---ts---turbo rat---phaser---eq===== ORANGE
    I currently use the board using audio interface on my pc but right now looking for a lil amp for high gain stuffs. Let me know if I need a buffer (like xotic tone saver or jhs or tc bonafide) to get this amp work for me? Waiting for the guidance.
    Best regards!

    10:10 would you like to comment on the amount of fizz in the tone. How to get rid of it. I really like the orange sound but these solid states babies seem too fizzy for me to handle. The treble knob does not help. Cutting treble makes tone dull and losing clarity and increasing treble adds fizz which again kills clarity.

    • @joaquinlavin5877
      @joaquinlavin5877 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There’s a difference between the Orange and the Blackstar: the ID Core is a modelling amp, which means it has more voices than just clean and dirty (6 to be more precise, I own an ID Core V2 and it’s virtually the same). The blackstar has 12 effects which makes it great for trying out what effects you like and what you don’t like, BUT I’ve recently found that it doesn’t take pedals very well. I have some dirt pedals and a compressor and it’s hard to find a good sounding spot, which is why I’m now looking for a solid state low volume amp (since I live in an apartment), and it’s also the reason why I arrived to this video and your comment lol.
      Tl,dr: the blackstar is more versatile bur doesn’t play well with pedals, and the orange is less versatile but can take pedals.

      Is it there when you turn down the volume of your guitar? Is it there all the time? If it's only there when you play, then it could be either one, but I'd guess it's the amp. I didn't have any issues with this one.
