    As a recent college grad, I needed to replace my first car (R title, bought off craigslist), but I had a small budget. Wasn't out to buy a fit, but I needed a hatchback, hate touch screens in cars, and wanted a manual. I commute 100 miles round trip to work 5 days a week. Ended up with a 2015 base model fit, and I have to say, it's not the car I wanted, but it's perfect for my current needs. I get 35 combined (more city heavy) and I've gotten 41 on pure highway. Another plus is the insurance for this car very affordable, which is what ultimately convinced me to buy the car. I've had it for a month now, and am content with my purchase!

    The Sport trim should have a turbo and not just some red stitching. I would buy a Fit Si if it existed.

  • @hermit527
    @hermit527 6 ปีที่แล้ว +40

    The Honda Fit is a great car, but it could totally use more power. Since the Fiesta ST is dead now, Honda should definitely make the Fit Si. They have the 1.5 turbo, so it shouldn't be impossible.

    • @freezor80
      @freezor80 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You know even a turbo 1.3 or something would be nice. Try to get the 0-60 into the mid to upper 6 second mark.

      Fiesta ST base trim is more expensive than a Civic hatch LX with that 1.5 turbo. It’s all a matter of price point.

    I just got home with 40.3 showing on my '17 Fit EX 6-speed. It's like Honda doesn't want to sell the manuals with the gas ratings listed as low as they are. Mine has consistently gotten in upper 30s to mid 40s. When those mediocre 185/55-16 Firestones wore out, I replaced them with 205/50-16 Michelin Pilot AS3+. They fit perfectly, hampered gas mileage none and give the ride and grip the car deserves. So far, it's performed flawlessly for 37K.

    • @Phrancis5
      @Phrancis5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got better than epa numbers with my 2nd gen fit sport, but I didn't like how the top gear ratio didn't change for the 3rd gen.

    • @cargogh
      @cargogh 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree completely. They missed an opportunity to add a few mpg and lower engine buzz on the interstate. It's ridiculous to drive at 80 and be turning 4000 rpm in 6th. Most of my rural driving, like last night, I had it in 5th anyway.

    • @Phrancis5
      @Phrancis5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yeah, with the slight bump in hp/tq over the previous gen, it could've easily used a taller 6th gear for even more efficient level hwy cruising. Ppl buy these to row the gears, so they're not gonna mind dropping a gear or two to pass or go up long hills. I'm glad they brought back the sport trim, but the spoiler is no bigger than stock, the suspension doesn't seem any tighter, and I'm just not a fan of the blacked out rims. It's also too bad you can't get honda sensing with stickshift too. Obviously the sys couldn't push the clutch or shift, but auto emergency braking and adaptive cruise would be nice.

    • @gtibruce
      @gtibruce 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your car is the 1.5 sport did the change of tires also make it steer better? as ive tested one of these sports and it felt it wanted to return to the straight ahead position more so than is necaasay if you know what i mean like as though there is too much castor setting on it?

    • @cargogh
      @cargogh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never notice the "return to center" feel on mine, so the model you tested may have been aligned differently. My model's steering has always been acceptable, but never anything to brag about, and that's been from day one. Now at 81,000 it still feels new. Currently running 205/50R16 Hankook Ventus V2 Concept2s. They were half price of the Pilots, got great ratings and are wearing like iron. Unfortunately they are much softer, but quieter and I doubt they'll develop the hard rubber sensation that Michelins can get in the last 3/4 of life. This Fit continues to be one of my wiser choices.

    I love my fit. You really need a stick shift though, the clutch is amazing. The other day I put a full size washer and push mower in the back and still had room. The jump from sport to Ex is minimal, gets you all the sensing stuff and saves you more money in car insurance, not to mention the sun roof. Not a car for everyone, but you've got to keep in mind how much you are paying.

I take it to my construction technician job in the city and my wife likes to take it too work in and around San Francisco as well.

    Actually, one of the most "fun" driving experiences is driving a manual, lesser powered vehicle where you really have to "work" the gears.
    I had the 2009 6M and it was fun to drive, got 36-38 MPG highway, 234K miles and could have easily gotten much more.

    I bought one in the UK back at the end of 2018. All was well for just over 4 years.
    It was an okay drive. Nothing special . Bit noisy at 70 MPH (112kmh). Infotainment system was just about passable. Fuel economy was okay, and it's party trick is that it's quite spacious, with the magic seats.
    But at just over 4 years old, then my low pressure fuel pump went wrong.
    In the USA they had a recall for I'm pretty sure the same model as my one . However Honda UK seems to apparently think that my car was not affected by the major batch of faulty Denso fuel pumps. So I've got a £1200 bill spread over a few garage visits whilst the fault was trying to be found.
    It's really easy to find that there was a massive recall of 700,000 Honda vehicles around the age of my one about Denso low pressure fuel pump failures, but somehow I magically never got one of those, but my fuel pump has gone wrong.
    Honda UK are being really useless.
    I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy another Honda car or motorcycle EVER EVER EVER again.
    Things go wrong sometimes, but Honda UKs abysmal response to me has meant I can never ever trust Honda again.

    I'm torn between a 2018 Fit Sport and a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. Not even in the same class or price range, but I like them both for different reasons! I'm a Honda purist and this Fit is akin to an old Civic hatchback with more room. Never had a Subaru always liked them.

      defer to Consumer Reports and which car has more standard safety features, also you would actually cross-shop the HR-V and Crosstrek as they're more closely related ground-clearance wise. You can't get Honda Sensing on the Fit sport or HR-V yet but you can get Subaru Eyesight.

    not enough, IMO, to entice one from the EX w/6spd. the add-on front spoiler, side skirts, and rear diffuser are not enough "performance" and the EX is a way better buy. Sure, it is a grand or so more, but much more enticing on the inside, where you spend your time while driving. I think 50lbs of sound deadener/noise absorption stuff would go a long way in this car; maybe even 60-70 pounds and mileage would not suffer that much, bu the car would be sooo much quieter.

The New Zealand spec is great, keyless entry, push button start, climate control aircon, LED headlights and LED DRL too. I'm surprised you found it under powered, you just need to push it and the engine changes into a real sports car. Great review 👍🏽

    We replaced our 2nd gen Fit sport 5MT with the new CRV. It's crazy to think they have the same size engine, yet boost makes a much larger/heavier awd SUV a lot faster and still get the same epa mpg rating. Imagine what a 1.5L turbo would do for a Fit with 6MT and better suspension... Even if it added $2-3k to the price I think there would be enough customers.

    • @Phrancis5
      @Phrancis5 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, but do you really think that 10k difference is mostly the engine?

    • @kompa2004
      @kompa2004 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are wrong, the CRV has a 2.5L ENGINE and the Fit has a 1.5L engine. That's why the CRV feels faster. the bigger engine takes more gas and Burns more..

    • @Phrancis5
      @Phrancis5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL! No, you are very very wrong. You clearly have the internet. It's not hard to research the FACT that the 5th gen CRV (always based on the Civc platform) comes in 2.4L NA, 1.6 Turbo diesel, Hybrid, but mostly a 1.5L direct injection Turbo with CVT. The same displacement as the Fit and same EPA MPG rating as the version of the Fit that I described. I paid cash for my car. I know what kind of engine I was paying for.

    MANY miles second generation Fit. Computer is "optimistic" when it comes to fuel economy. Very good machine with a couple glaring flaws. Wheel lug was stripped...a new lug cannot be replaced without removing the wheel assembly....Less the $5 part now several hundred $$. Interior Fan died at 145k...odd for a Honda. If you live rural, this is a GREAT summer car....

    I got this car for a while, it's relaible, have a good engine, but by far it's worst driver seat ever. Seat is not for tall people I am 6'1 and my back and leg took a big hit from the car.

      I'm 6'3", so I know what you're talking about. I had an issue with the lack of lumbar support. Grab a lower back support on Amazon; fixes that problem right away.

      You may adjust the seat lower and the steering wheel higher , slide the chair all the way back , ( may be you already did ) but I am it tall like yours , but hope that will help

      Have had the car just over 1 year, 24,000 miles. I am 6’ 4”. Seat is set high and set all the way back. Drive 35 miles each way to work daily. No problems with health. Love my Sport.

    best way to tell what your REAL mpg is take a car run it from full to empty, take that milage and divde by number of gallons. Honda always overstates by a lot!

    My 2013 Fit gets much better millage than Honda says it will. Why is it Honda MPG is under rated and my 2017 Chevy Silverado is way over rated.

      Casey F Ryback that TSX is one of the most reliable modern automatic Hondas. But yeah a Fit with a manual is the hands down winner. The CVT automatic will eventually break and be very expensive to fix according to Scottykilmer

      Different class. The correct comparo is Honda Fit vs. Toyota Yaris. Fit compares favorably with the Yaris.

    If the predictions of $4 gas by year's end come thru, cars like these will be flying off the dealer's lots, while the FCA gas guzzlers will sit there and rot.

    Pros:
    1. MPG
    2. Total full tank price.
    3. Cost for parts
    Cons:
    1. Forces a full grown man to sit and pee.
    2. You will looks like a douchebag driving it but in your own mind think it's cool.
    3. If you don't keep it washed and clean, it will look like you are driving a POS car
