    Runs like God? No. Most of these hands are marginal, no super coolers. Plays like God? Yes. Ive seen the whole thing and he makes fools outta this table the entire time. Ivey.. greatest all around player in history.

    • @ace90765
      @ace90765 7 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      usernamesrlamo I think the point was that, yes, Phil Ivey didn't win "supercoolers" but he did get to take advantage of running good to have a strong enough hand to slow play and value bet vs his opponents having medium/weak enough hands to only call his value bets on the river.
      For example, the 6 4 vs 9 8 hand Ivey made the nut straight on the turn and was able to value bet it against a rivered 9 for 2nd pair, from an opponent who was bluffing the flop. The K 10 vs K 4 hand Ivey slow played top two pair and his opponent slow played top pair (probably because of the flush draw) and the turn and river bricks, allowing Ivey to bet his strong hand on the river and get called by a weaker, yet strong enough to call, hand.
      In the A 4 vs 10 X hand, Ivey hits top pair against a gutshot straight and Ace draw, but with the turn and river bricking for his opponent he value bet his top pair. However in this hand, his opponent bluffs reraises the river and Ivey is able to make the somewhat hard call. Every draw bricked which made his opponent bluffing be unlikely, but in this instance he was lucky to flop top pair against Ace high and a draw, and have his hand hold up which let the call on the river be a good one.
      If some of those hands were reversed Ivey might treat it differently or the same as his opponents. However, in this case he was able to take advantages of these marginal yet strong positions and get maximum value from his opponents. Figuring out what his opponents are up to but also being able to to take advantage of flopping strong hands and have them hold on the river (running good) against his opponents' weaker-but-also-strong hands, which is what makes Ivey one of the best.

    I guess it's a little bit silly question but how much does lets say 100,000 chips are worth if you convert them into dollars?? I always see those 500K pots 1MIL pots but never understand how much money it is actually is. Because there is no way that 500K chips is actually $500,000 right? Please explain

    • @danielwells774
      @danielwells774 3 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      The chips are not related to real money in tournaments. Everybody starts with the same amount and the winners get pyramid-structured cash prizes.

    • @dantheman4838
      @dantheman4838 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Think of the chips as monopoly money, they are worthless. Only your placing in the tournament matters.

    • @david2742
      @david2742 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      In tournaments you pay your buy in and get chips equal to that value. So if the buy in is $10,000 you get $10,000 chips. So if say you have 6000 people in the tournament then there are $60,000,000 of chips in play, which as the tournament goes on and players get eliminated gets consolidated to the players still in. But in tournaments there are usually designated payouts for what place you come in so the actual number of chips you have doesn’t matter, just how many in relation to the other players

    • @bostonnate4024
      @bostonnate4024 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s just an amount in tournaments.however in cash games, that’s real money. This is a tournament so they really didn’t bet that much. Watch cash games and you will be shocked

    • @jont2576
      @jont2576 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a cash game not a tournament,the chips are face value.....1 chip= $1....500,000 in chips = 500k.

    "That's the problem with guys like Phil Ivey, they get good hands too, right?"
    "They're allowed to."
    These commentators are great, just wanted to throw that out there. They understand Poker for everything that it is. "Poker is the great equalizer. At the table, everyone is leveled out. The chips do the talking." so much great insight

    • @onbored9627
      @onbored9627 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol so true. A lot of the commentators don't pay attention enough to what they say, they just try to keep talking. It's funny. There are some good ones out there like the guy who does PokerNight is very quick witted and knows the game, even plays with them sometimes. There are a lot out there just don't know the game enough to understand the pros. It's different than commentating football though or a sport. With sports you can understand the moves but don't have the physical advantage to play. With poker it's all mostly mental so if you knew enough to track the pros you'd just play. Pro's make the best commentators.
