  • Making progress, smashing thumbs, and boogering stuff up in the second installment of Project: Vandemic.. After dismounting the tires, we remove the hub cap clips from the wide five wheels by grinding off the rivets and punching them through. Then we fully disassemble the brakes, hardware, and backing plates before getting them cleaned up for sandblasting. Another homemade tool is explained when we remove that weird spacer on the rear axle. This project is moving fast, so subscribe now to see all of it start to finish!
    Please make an effort to thank someone who is on the front lines of this national crisis. If that is you, thanks for being here for the rest of us, and please stay safe!

    remeber those little caesar pizza ads ? I have a brother ? Kinda of feel that way when I watch this guy ! I have splity (with lot more rust) up in the air doing brakes, bearings, an old coats tire machine, I used to have that parts washer, got a sandblaster, kroil, etc, things take longer than expected, and hey I did this a decade ago ! ... I used a drill to drill out those rivets - fast...found the tool but no idea where I put the rivets and clips...D'OHH

      but I wear a respirator when sandblasting (I Hate to do that), and a Big BIG fan to push the soon dust away

    Why the Gear Reduction on the Bus/Transporter versus the Beetle?.Thanks Bob Wenzell.

    • @HapticGarage
      @HapticGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Robert, great question! The Split window bus uses the same Type 1 engine found in the Beetle but the bus is heavier and has a much greater payload. The VW engineers solved this by gearing things down with the reduction boxes; otherwise the poor little Beetle engine would have cooked. However, the bus and bug parts became more distinct in '68 (one year after this bus) until the bus eventually had a totally unique engine and transaxle combination. That started in '72 with the type 4 engine and latest transaxle after a few generations without Reduction Gear Boxes. It's almost like they started the bus with spare parts that were laying around and 20 years later figured it had earned it's own version! Thanks for the question and for checking out the video!
