I’ve watched this many, many times! Not only a wonderful layout, but everything that has gone into the production of this video has been put together in such a thoughtful way. Love it.
Some years ago I owned Moorcock Junction and I had the pleasure of operating next to John and this layout. I did about 20 minutes operating in the whole weekend as I was mesmerised by the pure excellence of Ashburton. Fond memories. Cheers, Bob
The colouring and weathering of everything, especially the buildings, is superb! That’s the best painted back-scene too. Given the small scale, you have great skill in modelling.
How anyone can thumbs down is beyond comprehension… this is a masterpiece of modelling. I know Ashburton well and lived there next to the silent whistle pub opposite the station building, now a garage…
Ive only just turned 30 but when I was 10 or so loved model railway, scalextrix all the proper toys young lads used to have. They taught us so much not just physically how to put stuff together but patience, building something more than 5 minutes for true satisfaction, learning and pride....how we have fallen. Although always thought N gauge was inferior to 00 lol🤦🏼♀️
Heart achingly beautiful. I wish I had the time....and the patience....and the skill......and the vision. Either way, I'd like to live there on that layout;
Funny the first exhibition layout I ever built was Ashburton in N scale. But that was back in 1977-78. Just wish there had been more quality stock back in those days, as I was forced to scratch build nearly all locos and coaching stock, as well as the track. Nice to see someone else has seen the potential of Ashburton as a compact but fairly diverse subject. I'm not a fan of sector plates however as these always prove too slow under exhibition conditions in my book !
Are sector plates common in N gauge railways? 1:12 always reminds me that I'm looking at an English model - the 4 wheeled coal cars with the company names on the side.

fantastic colouring with shades and depth
Beautiful and so much to wonder at. I had to keep going back and pausing to take it all in. It really does captures the mood and feel of that time.
I'm just starting my journey into model railways, I'm in awe of the workmanship that goes in to these layouts, I have long way to go.

Does there layout use magnets to uncouple?
Please excuse my ignorance. What is "Builder Plus Stone"? I love the look of it but am clueless where to source it. Google has not helped either!
In what context Guy?
@@world-of-railways It's mentioned in the video, I assume that it is a textured sheet material for scratch building.
@@guymassey7270 It's a series of kits... do a search for 'Builder Plus kits' H
