- Leigh Visits Thornwood Springs Trout fishery in early spring to cast a few Buzzers and Dry flies for
those early Rainbows and Browns. Leigh explains his tackle and his fishing methods that caught many fish including a double figure Rainbow which took almost 15 minutes to land on a size 14 Black Midas... many fish were landed on either the Black Midas or Black Buzzers , all were size 12 or 14 barbless looks and all on Floating lines.
Thornowood Spring have an eclectic mix of Rainbows, Browns Spartic and Blue Trout which make a day at Thornwood Springs a very exciting and challenging days fishing and so close to London
Thanks, Lee. Great and informative video as usual. Brightened up my Covid Christmas!
Some cracking fish there Leigh, great job.
Mate some quality fish there, stonking Blues and Spartans Lindsay, we should do a joint one there maybe?

Awesome fishing Leigh with the dry fly. I've had some great sport recently with Hawthorn Fly imitations. Keep those videos coming!👍👍👍
Can't beat catching on Dry's Daz, love visual sight fishing!
Outstanding video leigh, never fished there myself, looks fantastic. Hope you're well. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk 🐟🐟
Thanks Mike, worth a trip there! Just got back from 3 day's guiding on Rutland, the place is on fire! never seen so many fish in there before does not matter where you go you catch, some quality fish also!
Super colours:) will subscribe.:)
Thank you will check out your site
Checked your site and subbed good work!
Great videos Leigh. Very informative. May I ask about balancing rod and line weight sizes to situation?. When dry fly fishing what size are you using #6 or #7. Thanks again Lee.
On the smaller waters and off the boat with a prevailing wind will use a #6 but if needs must will use #7 or an #8 if I have to have distance, of course you loose that also important presentation! But defo a #6 off the boat as only short cast required most of the time
Great video. The sky looks overcast. Would you have expected to do as well with the dry fly on a bright sunny day?
Defo will always work better on a dull day, but have had some great days on most waters in flat calm and bright sunshine? seen Paul Davidson smash them to pieces in bright sun and flat calm also John Horesy loves flat calm and sun for dries but my preference would be overcast light breeze and warm! perfect
Great video as ever Lee. I saw you decreasing the leader - what do you use as I seem to to struggle to get mine to sink? Keep up the good work!
Nothing special Joseph just your normal run of the mill fullers earth and washing up liquid, normally buy it at Grafham or Rutland shop but you can make it yourself, I have done in the past! I think the trick is to use florocarbon and I do de grease very regularly, if it looks like it is sitting on the surface I de grease until I get it right, you can be sure if you can see it floating the fish defo can! In really calm conditions I have stepped up my braking strain as floro is heavier and a bigger diameter means it will sink quicker and easier plus floro is supposed to be invisible in water so it should not matter? goes against what you would think in calm conditions but makes sense when you think about it.
@@troutwithleigh4503 thanks for taking the time to reply and for sharing your knowledge Lee. Great video
That was a slab to catch on a Midas nice change from a massive lures or stalking bugs for the biguns! 🤔 plus nice to see someone else working à dry fly all the way back, proves it works just under too. I like that shirt of yours too what is it? Tight lines.
Yep works really well practically at Thornewood but have done equally well on Grafham and Draycote, Fished with Paul Davidson last year at Draycote who invented the Midas and that method and bringing it back after leaving it dry for a while was what the fly was intended to do he said.
@@troutwithleigh4503 tell Paul I miss his no nonsense tying tutorials. Ps bet the sale of supuglue has gone down too 🤣
Ps where did u get the shirt, great colour and style for fishing
@@ibelieve1468 Sorry it was a 'Hardware 'shirt think I got it as a prize a few years ago? don't remember buying it ? but as you say nice Blue and very combatable, Where were you fishing the Hawthorne dries ?
