    Good tutorial for beginners aznfunk! Personally I keep the book in the bag even when cutting out the window. Just slide and extra board and you won't have any issues cutting through the board. A lot less chance for smudging while taking out the book or damaging against the cut window

    • @AznfunkComics

      I totally know what you mean. I also have done it your way but accidentally cut into a comic cause i was putting too much pressure on the blade. As long as it works for you, there's no wrong way really. Thanks again for stopping by Spidey!

    I recommend that when you using the marker to write on the painters tape to not slide the comic into the bag or you might have a mishap of accidentally writing ✍️ on the comic. Let just it has happened to me before …lol 😅

    So when mailing this to a place like CGC would I treat this as if it were normally bagged or is there an extra step I should take to protect the exposed area of the comic?

    • @AznfunkComics
      @AznfunkComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great question. I would place another board on top of the front cover to protect the exposed area. Tape it on all 4 sides so that it doesn’t move around. CGC will remove the extra board when they receive it. But make sure to include all the required paperwork and info when you package your book.

  • @KingpenComix
    @KingpenComix 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    another great video. i got a little squeamish when you put the comic back in the bag and THEN used a marker on the tape. HAHA. i would have marked the tape with arrows, artist name, a message, let it dry for a sec, and finally put the comic back in. just being overly paranoid of the comic i guess. i have also used a scrap of a comic bag or the cut out piece as a flap to protect the signature after its done. and to take it a step further, put the signed bagged comic and put it into a silver age bag for extra protection. is that too much? maybe 🤷🏼‍♂️ haha

    • @AznfunkComics
      @AznfunkComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha yes I’ve definitely smudged marker on a comic for not letting it dry! I’ve learned my lesson there. I like your silver age bag idea! Too bad I don’t have any of those laying around haha

    • @AznfunkComics
      @AznfunkComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I put it in another bag, or sandwich it with 2 pieces of backing board, just for extra protection.

  • @jackstop6
    @jackstop6 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hey man. nice vid. quick question. i want to submit a book for signature but ill add a pressing service too. do you still have to put the window bag on the book. even though the order of process is PRESSING - SIGNATURE - GRADING -? thanks

    • @AznfunkComics
      @AznfunkComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question Jack. If you’re getting it pressed with CGC, then YES, put the window bag on the book because they will put it back into that bag after they have pressed it. If you’re using a third party Presser, ask what they prefer because it might depend. Most likely it will be the same as with CGC. Hope that helps! And thanks for watching.

  • @fanboycomix9677
    @fanboycomix9677 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great vid! But I have a question, would it be alright to take the finished product and place it in another bag for protection?

    • @AznfunkComics
      @AznfunkComics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! If you can find a slightly bigger bag to put it in, definitely do it. If I'm going to a con and meeting creators myself, I normally put all my bagged and boarded books in a BCW Stor-Folio so I don't have to worry about them getting damaged.

    • @AznfunkComics
      @AznfunkComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @TromboneGuy360 thanks for reaching out TGuy! Not a silly question at all. If you are submitting to CGC, I would NOT double bag because like you said, it may get denied by CGC. If your books are packed well, they should be in the same condition throughout the process. CGC is now making pre-cut bags now, which are great! But the only downside is that if you want a the signature in a specific spot, doing these signature windows is your best bet. My suggestion to double bag was only for if you were going to a convention or private signing in person. Let me know if that makes sense.

    How do or would you, make a window for 3 signatures? Any tips?

    • @AznfunkComics
      @AznfunkComics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, that's a tough one. I guess it would depend on the where on the cover you want the signatures and how large the signatures are going to be. You might be better off cutting out one large window and then have all 3 signatures in it. Or you could do two boxes with your favorite signature in one and the other two in the other. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

  • @crackerjackrappr
    @crackerjackrappr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If I'm sending an already graded book to CGC for a signing, would I still make a window bag? I'm worried they would think I want the actual slab signed.

    • @AznfunkComics
      @AznfunkComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do not window bag your slab. If you’re sending a book that is already slabbed, there is nothing you can do to guarantee where the artist will sign on your book. Once they crack open your book, they will put it in a official CGC precut window bag with borders that are at least a few inches from the outer edges. Just hope that the artist is savvy enough to figure out the best spot in the cover. What book are sending in and who is signing?

    • @crackerjackrappr
      @crackerjackrappr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AznfunkComics I was think of sending in my 8.5 Batman #423 McFarlane cover for Starlin to sign. I am worried because I honestly think it's lower than an 8.5, and don't want it to come back even lower. Also not sure that spending $100+ is even worth it bc the book isn't even worth that. Lol.

    • @AznfunkComics
      @AznfunkComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@crackerjackrappr that’s a cool book. I’ve seen Starlin consistently sign right above Batman’s head if its open. You should be fine if you decide to send it in. In the end, you’ll have to ask yourself which is more important, Starlins sig or keeping the higher grade. Good luck man and let me know how it goes if you decide to go for it.

    • @AznfunkComics
      @AznfunkComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, attach an extra backing board to the front of the bag with tape before you package it up for CGC. That way it’ll cover up the exposed area and CGC can easily fold it open. Let me know if that makes sense. Good luck!

  • @parkertheking99
    @parkertheking99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How do you window bag a slab? I’m sending some 9.8 McFarlane stuff

    • @AznfunkComics
      @AznfunkComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question Parker! Unfortunately if you send in a slabbed comic to get signed by CGC, you don’t have any control over where the signature will go. But if you do it through an authorized CGC facilitator and give very specific instructions on placement (if they allow it) then you might be able to influence the placement. Hope that helped!

  • @AdamLuiTube
    @AdamLuiTube 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do you apply and peel off tape on the bag with the comic inside (risking damage to the book), only to replace it with a backing board ultimately during incision? Why not just do that from the get go?

    • @AznfunkComics
      @AznfunkComics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching Adam! I like to visualize where the signature will be on the book, which is why I leave the comic inside the bag while I apply the tape. I completely agree with you that removing the book from the bag multiple times is risky and can damage the book further, but that's a personal style preference. Each collector has their own process which is great. Hope that helps!
