I have now successfully transitioned our Automattic newspack theme over to Ollie. The results are really surprising. Ollie is a beautiful site. After a few days I am finally getting the hang of Full Site Editing (FSE) and it is great. I am going to use block themes and FSE henceforth abandoning the powerful Kadence page builder. The issue with page builders is the constant tinkering with layout (Desktop vs Tablet vs Mobile). Ollie's layout on all devices is incredible and doesn't requiring a bunch of adjusting and fooling with padding settings, margins, spacers, etc. Congratulations Michael - nice job bro! Fire!

when is Ollie PRO, and what is the price "offer" Lifetime Unlimied or Annual per site band? Just asking before I dive in and get rug pulled by 200 bucks per site per annum.@@OllieWP

Congrats mike! Too bad about the onboarding feature, but at least it's in now. I wish you and your team all the best.
Btw, what's ollie pro gonna be? Is it gonna be guttenberg addons? Or ollie theme with more features?

I'm currently enjoying your theme, and I was wondering if you could create a tutorial video covering the following topics:
    1. Modifying the background color of the home screen (index page).
    2. Customizing fonts for headings and paragraphs in blog text, including the option to use custom fonts.
    3. Adding a sidebar with features like Search, Archives, and Recent posts.
    4. Implementing a dropdown menu in the header.

We'll definitely add this to the list of topics to cover in future videos! Thanks for the suggestions!

Trying to figure out how much it will cost so I know whether I should give a try or just stick with livecanvas

    Great initiative. Comigrates Ollie.
I am having a little difficulty with the customization. Can you please tell how to set one template for certain pages. There is a template "page with sidebar" and I am unable use it for my already published pages. Thanks

Hello, your theme Ollie WP looks very promising! No video for 3 months here, is it still in development?

Hey Michael, do you have a child theme we could activate so as to be safe when you update the main Ollie theme???

    Hello
I read about your confrontation with retrogrades from Wordpress. Can I download your theme with all the settings you put in it? Not cut down, but real and full-blooded?
    Thank you.

Been LOVING Ollie and trying to learn more! Can you do a short video or blog post, or briefly explain here, on how to update Ollie in the future? Like for instance: you download it from the Repository and then you change code in the theme.json file and or make other custom code changes ie: in functions or custom template code ... will any future theme updates overwrite these? If so how will one be able to get the theme updates but retain their custom code? Thank you!! Great work and CONGRATS!!

Hey there! I'll probably need to make a video on this at some point. If you are making changes in the editor (customizing templates and changing global styles) then you can continue updating the theme via the Themes page whenever we update it.
However, if you are actually customizing the code of the theme, such as the theme.json and template code, then you should probably use a child theme instead. A child theme is a layer that sits on top of the theme that lets you make customizations. The difference is, when we release an update, it won't wipe out the changes you've made to the theme. Instead, it will update the underlying Ollie theme and leave your child theme customizations intact.
Hope that helps at least get you started!

@@OllieWP Ok THANK YOU! So (for me) it's the same as using a Genesis parent and child theme then correct? So to recap; and make sure I'm totally understanding it ~ Provided that I have a Parent theme: My changes in the Child theme EDITOR and TEMPLATE EDITOR will not be affected by an Ollie theme update. My changes to code in Child template, theme.json, functions etc. will also not be affected. My Parent theme will get updated, and Child will gain benefits of the Parent. No custom code being overwritten in the Child. Am I understanding it right then?
*To get the proper Parent/Child initially set up do you just download Ollie from the WordPress Repo as the Parent and then Copy it over to make the Child and activate the Child? Hope this helps others too! Sorry so long but just next week will be needing to do this so I can start off right with a new Ollie install for an upcoming project :) CONGRATS again!!

  • @slingsandarrows

I am using the Ollie theme and one of the issues I'm currently having is that I need to add custom functions but there is now functions.php file. What is a work around for this? Would I create a child theme and then a functions.php file or is it better to use a plugin like Code Snippets or WPCodeBox?

    • @OllieWP
      @OllieWP  ปีที่แล้ว

Hi there! There are a few things you can do here. You could use a child theme, which we have provided here (github.com/OllieWP/ollie/releases/latest/download/ollie-child.zip). Or you can create a custom plugin to add these functions. Both of these would allow you to add additional functionality without modifying the underlying Ollie theme.
