To put it in my understanding, Genshin Impact’s storytelling focuses on the end goal, while we are like a stranger in a strange land as the traveler, our motivations is the end goal while we get put on a pedestal for helping others in each nation, yes, there are lore drops, yes there are key points, but it still felt like a simple fairytale. Like, the world building is still amazing and all but it’s almost like there isn’t enough uniqueness, everyone just feels like an npc. In a toddler’s words; “archon good, Celestia bad, fatui questionable, must continue to go through Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumaru, Natlan, Snezhnaya then Khanre’ah to find sister.” Meanwhile, as the Trailblazer in Honkai Star Rail, we were just born we explore the world with no clear goal in mind, and that urge to fulfill our curiosity about this expansive universe with morally ambiguous eldritch beings, factions beyond our control, worlds beyond this simple space train, it makes us question what’s beyond, it makes us question the morality of every mysterious character, and even if we reach the end of the story, it lets us be curious on what’s to come. And I can’t help but mention the characters we get to see the characters slowly reveal themselves as the story goes on, take Belobog for example! To us it seemed like Bronya was the bad guy at first but slowly we get to realize that Cocolia was the one behind the scenes yet at the very end, she’s simply a person who has gone down the wrong path, too deep to the point of no return. And the Xianzhou feels ancient, and Penacony felt familiar yet strange at the same time, like a fever dream. We get to see the story from many perspectives, every place felt so alive, like people truly lived there, like there was a history, and it only makes us wonder what is next. HECK THEY DON’T EVEN REVEAL ALL THE PLANETS AND PLACES WE COULD GO AND IT JUST MAKES IT FEEL MORE LIKE AN ADVENTURE, A REAL OPEN WORLD GAME, A WHOLE NEW UNIVERSE WHERE ANYTHING CAN JUST HAPPEN! THAN A DELIBERATELY PLANNED STORY, GENSHIN JUST FEELS SO DAMN WEIRD LIKE WTF IS WITH NATLAN??? Yeah that’s my analysis.
Very interesting video I totally agree with your statements I think Genshin lacks the maturity and complexity Star rail offers I know they are a bit different types of games but i wish story quests and Archon quests would dive into deeper lore and philosophies of this world like in sumeru AC or world quests and not that positive sunshine lollipops image considering were nearly at the end of Teyvat and we should have already uncovered most of the secrets, I feel like theorists have given much more "life" to genshin storytelling than the game content itself did.
yea at first i stayed in genshin for the lore that theorists gave me they hype for, but after waiting for so long, i rlly dont think the devs can uncover it fully so i just quit
HSR story is basically a series of "What if(s)" like.. "What if AI took over the world?" or "What if Dream is alternate reality?". The vast space world setting really emphasizes "Anything can happen" in the story compared to Genshin that is limited to their own traditional world setting despite the game labeled as "Open World". Of course the game isn't perfect and suffered a lot of presentation quality considering it's just a gacha game + Hoyo's track record of writing boring long dialogues, but from gameplay to story I'd say it's a very solid one.
true. maybe it's because i only played genshin from 1.0 to 3.4 or something, but the writing was kinda mid. the concept is really cool, but the writing is questionable. i heard it got better with fontaine but natlan sounds questionable again (ive kept up with both without playing.) their decision to kill off capitano, who was the most anticipated character, felt like it was rooted in their fear of killing playable characters. also, mavuika should've been the one to die because she's literally himeko 💀 but she would sell more than capitano so they just kept her alive. anyways, besides that, the traveler has INSANE plot armor. why are they always accidentally there when a nation has a huge thing happen to them? and why are they more important than the archon sometimes? plus, the only ones who have actually given the traveler information about their main goal were dainsleif and nahida, the literal archon of wisdom. idk, i just don't like the traveler as a character either. extremely plain design, non existent personality, just gets glazed by characters who allegedly hate everyone (citlali) hsr on the other hand makes a lot more sense. half the story doesn't happen in the trailblazer's perspective. all the nameless are equally as important. the main characters on a planet are more important than the trailblazer who just plays a part in whatever happens in the end. the trailblazer's power is actually known (i know the traveler's entire plot is that they don't know their past but i mean that they don't expand on their current strength. like some people think they're as strong as an archon, some think they're weaker than the harbingers, etc). they're weaker than most of the antagonists such as aventurine or even sunday for example. they don't have a main goal, because they're just unknowingly following elio's script. so there's no room to go off track like what happens in genshin. knowing more about the aeons seems like the end goal, because they are the reason why everything even happens after all. but they can only get to know more about them through exploring worlds. besides lore reasons, genshin's environmental details are beautiful but the character models are so bad. if you look up or down, the characters seem two dimensional........ then there's the obvious issue with the devs not listening and being greedy. also, they only released one male character in 2024 which is a short boy at that. they make characters and their personalities based on how much they'll sell which is wild. another problem i have is how spaced out the main quests are. the archon quest gets over, then you have to wait a few updates for the dainsleif quest, and then wait again for the next region to get released? OH and the fact that talent books and weapon mats are time gated. wtf?
yea i agree although hsr has some dead patches they arr actually filled with interesting story that if u skip u might miss some stuff (like hoolay and the yaoqing, and even the paperfold university one bc u learn abt one of the genius society members + mr reca who’s a memokeeper)
Both way I didn't care which one is mid Because i have the same problem with both of their storytelling The Good part is that I don't expect more from Hsr story so I don't have to deal with the disappointment like Gi These some opinions that I don't agree with you but I'm too lazy to argue with something that people strongly dislike no matter how I explained so better not say anything
The thing with genshin story is there's no damn development in story at all, like boy our goal is to asks to archons about the sister and that's all, helping to solve problems in each nations doesn't really aligned with what we're searching for. And every time the big things happened in each nations, the traveler always "coincidentally" be there. Unlike the trailblazer, it was the opposite, the arrival of the Nameless itself "creates" the big things. Now because of that there's "No too late" to make up things in genshin like saving Dvalin from Abyss/saving Liyue from the sealed Dragon/saving people to wake up from dream and even Scaramouche/saving people from the prophecy and giant whale, because of what I said before that the traveler always Coincidentally be there. In hsr almost every story arc is about too late, like too late to stop the Legions and even Stellaron hunters at intruding the Herta spaceship, too late to help Jarillo VI from Stellaron disaster from 700 years ago, too late to stop Luocha/Phantylia/Sanctus Medicus to smuggle a stellaron into Luofu, too late to save Misha/Tiernan/Lazarina and others from Gopher's evil scheme, and from Amphoreus trailer I can already tell we're also "too late" to arrive and would already be in the middle of something. Get it? It's all about Too Late because we're not getting controlled by the Coincidences the traveler had
True and it makes more sense the Astral Express travels around the universe on a adventure helping anyone who needs help. Because HSR only focus's on the journey us helping these different worlds feels more real
Hsr also doesnt withhold information for the sake of withholding and to add bloat to the plot. In genshin, we just finished the natlan main quest and we still dont know shit about whats going on. Everything we do know is surface level, most of the archons refuse to tell us anything tangible or important. Just terms that allowed people to loosely intepret different theories. It feels like everyone knows whats going on...but us. Our sibling wont tell us anything, zhongli is contracted not too, venti is drunk, raiden wasnt really there (i forgot), nahida is a reincarnation who wasnt involved, furina got tortured for 500 years, and mavuika said "i think youre gonna fight the fatui at their home base...but have you heard of this different continent no one has ever mentioned to you!?" Its worse when you realize that the traveler has acknowledge that hes been on his journey for years (a 5 year long build up to a war and everyone is so incredibly lax for about 6-8 months). The writers have given us too many random bits that cant truly connect. They even mentioned the false sky in 1.X, we dont gear about it again until 3.X, and dont see proof until 5.3!? That's actually insanely bad pacing and will lead to a rush and lore dense ending if they dont handle nod krai carefully. Meanwhile, we know the goal of the stellaron hunters and how they're going about their mission. We learned dan heng's lore in the first year, and about to learn march 7th's this year. We learned so much about the trailblaze and the implications of different aeons and how they interact with one another. Plus the implications when 3 of them are essentially having a little argument over amphoreus. Though i will admit, hsr has an exposition problem, giving us too much information as times, like in 2.1 with acheron. So i hope that with 3.X they learned and are using all 8 patches so they dont force so much into 3 patches. That was a much longer rant than expected, haha oops
I agree so much perhaps this is why genshin has been getting boring. They have been dragging out the story for so long with out giving us any real answers to our questions that it seems like they just want us to keep playing without ever giving us truth behind anything. Genshin will open up whole new plot points with characters like Arle and the crimson moon of Khanriah and never expand on it. Great comment !
The 2.0-2.3 story was damn complicated, but fortunately I really like a complicated story, all that things happened in Penacony really are being made so good. But as you said, even complicated things could sounds less complicated based on the explanation, information overload is what made it complicated. But still personally Penacony story is my no 1 favorite story out of other 4 hoyoverse games (not even Natlan or zzz 1.4), all that I feared of was if it was too complicated for future people to understand, they won't get the hype of Penacony like I did or old players did (who were accepting the story update once in a 42 days to really get the understanding of each story)

We don’t talk about the Anemo short kings 🤣. But jokes aside Hsr definitely did well with Peneacony leaning into darker topics and making stakes actually feel high. Instead some war that really doesn’t affect traveler to much.
Personally honkai’s story just never intrigued me as much as genshin’s, so I guess it is subjective. Maybe it is because I prefer more classical magical elements and not so much tech

True! Genshin is getting stale. The world is "confined" in a set of rules or a single world. HSR allows for different mechanics and type of story telling.
Hsr is basically “Anything can happen! Endless possibilities!” And the Devs delivered it so well. While Genshin’s like: “Teyvat has all this lore and yadda-yadda, anyway can you help this hot Archon with her/his nation like for the 5th time?”
I'm glad that you get a lot of views for being so young and you do good videos. But you probably need to work on breathing exercises because ever other word you take, a really breathy inhale occurs making it distracting to what you are trying to convey. Try pausing while taking breaths or breathing through the nose. I hope you succeed in this channel and do what you enjoy. 😄
One is making all its haters looking for its next "killer" (which never comes), the other is Power Creep The Game that made death lose all meaning in its 2.X version story (talking about Penacony for anyone still confused) with its trash-tier writing.

Hsr is basically “Anything can happen! Endless possibilities!” And the Devs delivered it so well.
While Genshin’s like:
“Teyvat has all this lore and yadda-yadda, anyway can you help this hot Archon with her/his nation like for the 5th time?”
Thank You! I think I was just a bit to close to the mic so it was picking up my breathing. Thanks soo much for the feedback!
If your willing to answer was there any problem with the volume of the video?
holyy
One is making all its haters looking for its next "killer" (which never comes), the other is Power Creep The Game that made death lose all meaning in its 2.X version story (talking about Penacony for anyone still confused) with its trash-tier writing.
