Always true to himself greatest voice and GOAT cause he is FRANCO.... I remember when neighbours were being petty over silly border dispute he stood there exactly and proffered an epic vaffancul. In perfect operatic rendition... Shame we moved away and did not see him many years later just b4 he passed...Andreas you are so lucky to have been his good friend ❤️

Saluti.

It is a very valuable interview and my first taste of hearing the great Bonisolli interviewed. Some artists have a deeper sense of tradition in their view of their particular art, decrying commercialism completely. I believe there is room for both in any field, artistic purity and commercial interest. I do admire people like Bonisolli who had the voice of a giant on stage and whose views are indisputably honest and heartfelt. He is right and also is Pavarotti for not believing Opera should be an exclusive experience. Great piece of footage and I would have watched for much longer. Thank you, greatly appreciated.

He is really honest in his opinion, and I like that very much. Andreas Baum Dear friend, is an honor to speak and chat about the great Franco Bonisolli. I am a true fan of this great artist, and while been myself a tenor too ( a profesional one, who has tried to inspire himself while learning from this leyend of lyrical music), I feel he deserves much more better than my humble words...probably one of the great conductors that worked with him, or some of his still alive stage partners (Martha Colalillo, which whom I had the honor and joy to share stages last year, will be more than glad I know). He deserves the best comments from the best people. I am proud to hear and see your uploads regarding him. Please count on me; your work must provide his memory with public expansion in order to share his art with all audiences...his memory rests in our hearts and souls...in our love for lyrical music. Exactly. And it was all about greed, greed and more greed...and they (Pavarotti, Domingo and their manager, Herbert Breslin) were absolutely ruthless about it - and they were ruthless to start by. Breslin always said how he wanted to get (Pavarotti) out of opera houses aka "small potatoes" in terms of big cash. It was as simple as that. I think Franco was just being honest here and telling things as it is. And I believe him when he says "Je ne désire rien de ce qu'ils ont. Rien du tout."

The honesty and direct opinion of the man (in four languages :-)) is sooo refreshing!! And he was right: By the time Pavarotti entered the scheme of "The three tenors", his career as an opera singer was virtually over. It is bitter irony that Pavarotti became truly world- famous and a household name all over the world only a f t e r his best days were gone and his voice was a shadow of what it once was. Rather simptomatic for a time it which cheap bombastic show effects, clever publicity and the livestyle- function of music has become far more important than true art and the craftsmanship of singing...

Even of I don't dig his voice like say, the voice of Bonisolli, Francisco Araiza or Jerry Hadley, I still respect his accomplishments - you must give to Cesare what belongs to Cesare sometimes...And I hear he is VERY generous to young artists, I guess he must make up for his past ruthlessness but good for him.

Exactly. Herbert Breslin himself said, if you think opera is a way to get rich quick, forget it. The fees are higher in Europe but again, it's a question of era i.e the extravagant 80s versus the post-Communist era. Even today at the Vienna State Opera, where they say the big money is, they have to be very stern about artist fees.

Carreras had a wonderful voice but he had no soul for the Neapolitan classics. He was stiff and forced. You can't compare "Andrea Chenier" to "Core n'grato." There are very few non Southern Italians who sing Neapolitan properly and no non-Italians at all who do. Interpretation and feeling are more important than technical superiority. If you can deliver both, you are a superman. Di Stefano came close but no one sang them like Lanza. or Caruso, both Neapolitans.
