Bravo Bonisolli!!!!
Yes, on the old videos and cd´s we can see and hear how good Franco was...He is missed and the boots that he left are big... The people who knew him personally met a special man - friendly and with a great heart. But people use to talk about things that happened on stages and what was written in the papers - they understand nothing.
NESSUNA INTERPRETAZIONE...COME QUESTA!!!!
Curiosamente ambos Franco !!!
Vi ringrazio! Sì, i "vecchi" video e CD ci mostra ancora chiaro come e Franco ... Quite simply breath taking, there's been many great versions of this Puccini classic with that famous High-C moment but I think this just might surpass them all. Am I the only one who actually prefers Bonisolli's voice to his much more acclaimed namesake Franco Corelli?
I completely agree. Although corelli was a dramatic tenor. And Bonisolli became lyric-dramatic tenor later on in his career. Both were great, but in my opinion Bonisolli had a better technique. Listen to his phrasing, Corelli didn't have that kind of phrasing. Also his top notes were more secure than Corelli's and he could hold them way longer. Also due to his amazing technique, Bonisolli's voice was perfect and healthy until his death. Also I love both Francos and Corelli had an astonishing sound , to me Bonisolli was superior.
Piano? People's comments are sometimes really awkward..... that was all he had to give at that moment and that's it. The notes before and after aren't substantially louder.....
@@ilecier the difference between us: I wanted to say something kind about the great tenor who did something outside the "Three Tenors" skills, who he compeded with - and I appreciate kindness for kindness.
@@operamaniak81 To say something nice is a kind gesture. But it should not just be said for the sake of it but have a real reason behind it. The piano here is is forte. Hard enough to deliver that at the end of the aria aginst a loud orchestra. That said he was undoubtfully a great singer.
He spoke in one of your interview videos with him that “when you understand the technique, you have a problem,” but Franco had a fantastic technique, hard to believe how “correct” his voice sounded. He has a somewhat “harsher” sound to his voice itself, more like a trumpet (which I prefer), but a superior technique to Pavarotti Domingo or Carreras whom he correctly ragged on so famously. Pavarotti has the best technique of the three, Domingo has the most “trumpet-like” voice of the three, and Carreras probably had the sweetest timbre of the three. Bonisolli was Pavarotti technique with Domingo’s sound, except better than both!
He was a superb actor. People say so of Domingo. But Domingo acts, and on occasion gets carried away. Franco lives the roles, and had no technical issues to get in the way. I do think that he was a most comfortable lyric tenor. But, with a heart as big as his, he had to go more dramatic roles stretching his limits. In his later performances, he did indeed give well over 100%.
I seen a lot of Boheme's in the opera house, heard a lot more on records and sung three of the bass roles on stage (Colline, Alcindoro and Benoit). If you need an expert opinion - here it is. He's really, really good. I prefer Bjorling or Pavarotti - lighter more silvery voices for this role - but on the whole Bonisolli was a better tenor than Pavarotti in the roles that are at the heart of their respective repertoires. I heard both as Ezio in Gioconda from the same seats. The production was built for Pavarotti but Bonisolli in the revival a few years later was better. He had a rather darker richer sound but not quite as smooth. And of course he had a better top than that of the so called "King of the High C's". His best recording is probably as Marcello in Boheme - the Leoncavallo Boheme. Super, just super. Buy this DVD.
Everybody sings this. Just know that no body has ever sung it better than this. A few - a very few - just as good (I'm thinking Bjorling) different - but no one better. The funny thing is that Bonisolli's best role on records is Boheme but not this one - it's the one by Leoncavallo in which he sings Marcello - the tenor part (of course). Do yourself a favor go immediately to your computer and order a copy of the Leoncavallo Boheme. No, a billion listeners haven't made a mistake, the Puccini version is better overall, but the Leoncavallo version is well worth hearing. And Bonisolli is just incandescent.
His legato and control of emission is unparalleled. One of a kind! Absolutely astonishing

Surprisingly sensitive, with absolutely no vulgarity.
This is the true belcanto school that we lost. We may not reach it back.
