My history with carbs is that if I eat them all the time every day I get really bloated, stuffed, lazy and tired and if I stop eating them altogether I feel miserable and low energy... But if I cycle them, eating most of the time low carb then eating high carb for a day or two in a interval of a couple of weeks, the feeling is amazing. You really feel energized after some potatoes. Is like nothing can stop you.

Same. Also depends on the season and my level of activity, but I generally eat more carbs on the weekend then cut down for the week.

How long have you gone on a high fat moderate protein diet at a stretch, without touching carbs?

    • @brandonyoung4910

That’s insulin resistance my friend lol. Your carbohydrate choices were probably not optimal. I can pound 500g or whole grain carbohydrates all day with zero issues and feel amazing. If I eat half that amount of shitty high glycemic carbohydrates I feel like crap.

I used to have the same issue, but I started eating carbs at the end of any meal and I didn’t crash and bloat. Checkout Jessie Inchauspé videos on why eating foods in a certain order makes a big difference. Good luck

I think it's important to note that basically everyone loves to eat carbs, but only certain people can handle high quantities without overeating. I feel and look better on a high fat/low carb diet, but I much prefer having no carb restriction.

Right 100%, i am VERY carb. sensitive. I am 65 now but when i was 20-21 and my buddy was 19 and we did lots of iron pumping. He placed 5th in his 1st contest as a teen, he could eat bowls of rice and i could drive by a restaurant and gain belly fat, he had no issues getting ripped considering we were natural

Vince recommended a full big carb alone meal with no fats or protein every 3 or 4 days in the afternoons, say Wednesdays and Saturdays.....having followed this for a few years i can say it definitely works....i eat high protein moderate fats the rest of the time and stay lean and keep strength in the gym....i like taking some mct oil and cinnamon with the carbs too at those times.

It’s funny, now there’s more studies being doubled backed on if carbs repair muscles more than protein.

Yep follow Mauro Di Pasquale's Anabolic phase shift diet as mentioned by a contributor below (5 days LCHF, 2 days high carb but still plenty of fats as takes around 36-hrs before body makes hormonal switch back to primarily glucose use as really just replenishing glycogen reserves during carb phase). Carb intake also good for managing cortisol levels post-workout as well as trigger for MTOR.

Carbs definitely have their place. I eat them in the evening to help me sleep. I was doing keto, but I'm more PE now in the style of Ted Naiman, leveraging protein and that's working great. Sometimes it's good to carb load for sure, but it also feels great to fast from carbs and ramp up the ketones. Optimization is a quest, challenging but rewarding.

thanks! very nice and very needed video! especially these days when everybody fights battle against carbs! i knew that vince should have such stance towards carbs because he was smart and practical man! this is common sense. i say it long time, if people would eat more carbs they would be healthier! carbs are anabolic, they promote regeneration, strenght and digestion. enough carbs in diet is neccessary to be properly hydrated what improves strenght, regeneration and overall health. carbs are basics for digestion and to cover energy needs of body. if people eat more carbs then they can eat significantly less protein, especially meat, which is beneficial. more protein has anabolic effect and promote proteosynthesis, but it is just kick. and more protein one eats, less effective is its usage by body. people should understand that...

steve reeves mentions in his book building the classic physique that his macros were always 60% carbs, 30% protein, and 10% fat, he would even have trail mixes in between meals, well, we know trail mixes are mostly sugars, and looked how he turned out.

I've heard that 1 gram of sodium before a workout will give you a great pump. I mix a packet of LMNT electrolyte drink mix (1000 mg sodium, 200 mg potassium and 60 mg magnesium) into my pre-workout shake, along with some beet powder, creatine and maca root. I get great pumps every single workout.

it is proven that carbs are muscle sparing and will bring down cortisol. when we workout, cortisol is being produced, the harder the workout, the more cortisol, which will inhibit muscle building, pretty much burn muscle up, it makes sense to combat cortisol as much as possible in order to not make our workouts futile.

When I dial down even slightly my carbs, I can easily loose 1,5 to 2 lbs of water weight in a 72 hour period. Has Vince Gironda ever cited the upper-limit amount of carbs?
