    Great video, I just installed my AETK and wanted to give the viewers a few tips that may help when they are installing theirs.
    @ 4:03, Pay attention to how the trigger bar sits inside the sear housing block as you are pulling the sear housing block out, this will make reassembly much easier when you get to 12:09 of the video.
    @ 8:36 use a punch to push the middle pin out of your trigger to separate the trigger bar (make sure you note the orientation of the trigger and the trigger bar) so you can put the trigger bar on your new trigger. I found that having the trigger oriented so that you can see the trigger bar line up in the hole and hitting the trigger flat with a delrin hammer against something (This takes some patients and finesse) ( I used my vice but this could mare your pin a little) will help you start that pin enough so that the trigger bar is held by the roll pin. After that I went back to my plastic block and brass punch to drive it flush the rest of the way.
    @ 14:19 reinstalling the take down lever, make sure you line it up properly, if it is through both of the notches and it wont rotate clockwise put a little extra pressure from left to right and you should be able to rotate it down to the “six o clock position.
    @ 20:41, After you reassemble your gun and do a function check if it doesn't fire don't freak out! Lock back the slide and check the Yellow take down lever and make sure it is pushed back (remember we pushed it forward @ 2:07). Once that is done the gun should function properly.
    Hope this helps!

    Excellent video.
    I installed the duty/carry Shield kit with no problems at all.
    All I have to say is "wow" what a difference.
    I went from a gritty, heavy trigger to one that is now smooth as butter and has a nice clean break.
    This is a whole new gun.
    Thanks !!!

    Good video, I used it the other day to install my kit. One comment though, when I was installing the sear housing block at 12:05 I should have paid more attention to when I removed it to see where the trigger bar extension went and the video doesn't clearly show where the extension fits into the block. I had to google a few pictures to figure out how the two fit together. The video is not very clear on it. So before you remove yours, take a loot at how the trigger extension fits. It fits to the side of the sear in such a way that the looped looking metal piece (that moves the sear) sits right in front of the sear. Hard to explain, but I highly suggest that if you are not familiar with it, field strip the gun and before taking any parts out, observe how it interacts with the trigger bar when you pull the trigger.

    • @billdunlap9850
      @billdunlap9850 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree, not only the sear interaction but also polishing the top cam on the bar which interacts with the striker block. Polish the top cam to a mirror finish...if u look close you'll see the rough edges on that cam along with the rest of the trigger bar. Polishing the ENTIRE TRIGGER BAR eliminates a lot of "gritty friction points". I used 600 grit sand paper followed by 1500, then 2000 grit sandpaper. Take your time and remove all the "rough spots" and YOU WILL NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE! Makes an already great product even better. STAY SAFE!!

    I just installed the entire kit. I found it is easier to install the trigger bar/pin into the sear housing block and then install them together into the pistol.

    Thanks for the very informative vid. Not only takes you through every step, but tells you what to expect. I have the .40 shield and love everything but the trigger and was very happy to find out about Apex. I ordered the kit and with this video, I know I can accomplish the task myself being a retired job shop machinist. Not trying to impress, just stating this is a very good vid and anyone should be able to follow it.
    What does impress me however is the people that are so knowledgeable that they have to comment about the quality of the video. Where is your post, sure would like to see a quality video.

  • @lanep4322

    Great video and thoroughly explanatory of the entire process. If you bought a Mass compliant Shield, the trigger pull is so heavy (10+lbs) you will think the thumb safety is still engaged when you first attempt to fire it. A kit such as the Apex is essential to make it normal and usable.

      People think I'm nuts when I tell them my new Shield 9mm has a measured pull of 11 lbs...even after 500+ rounds and tons of dry-firing. Can't wait to install this kit (and Ameriglo sights). I'll be damn happy with a TP of 5-6 lbs! Perfect for a CCW weapon.

    Word to the wise...although if mechanically inclined you may be able to install, heed apex's recommendation for a professional installation, especially if you choose the kit with trigger. You can do it but if the trigger bar does not "snap into alignment", contact their excellent customer service department. They are more than willing to help in any way possible. So far GREAT PRODUCT but have patience....very rewarding to install yourself. The end result is worth it especially if this is your every day carry pistol! QUALITY KIT, FROM START TO FINISH. Just a note....polish all contact points...makes an already excellent product even better. If you have questions, glad to answer. :-)

      I installed the action enhancement trigger and duty carry kit on my 45 Shield yesterday. It looks simple enough but there are times you want to pull out your hair. Oddly enough, the part that seemed simplest on the video, was the hardest for me; getting the trigger pin through the trigger spring. It does take plenty of patience. I did take it to a gun smith to install night sights and while he was doing that, install the striker block spring, then I put 200 flawless rounds through my 45 Shield. I love this set up. If I could sum it up in one word it would be: sweet!

    Revisited this video today. I see i never mentioned that I also did a sight change while I was at it.figured the rear sight was off already. Just a matter of installing the nee one, along with removing the front sight, to change both. Went with Ameriglo Pro I Dot set up. A good pistol, now a great pistol.

    Superb video. Smooth, thorough, and extremely clear/focussed/zoomed where needed, etc. Though not a rookie, it helped- I installed the kit, and did all the extra polishing not mentioned, all in an hour and a half. My brand new Shield was an extra gritty one, complete with recoil spring ass'y roughness. 2.5 hours later, I was at the range for a 503-round break-in. She is thing of beauty now. BTW, yanked CA mag safety and takedown sear release lever, spring, pin too. Found that CA LCI obstructs view of factory front sight for longer range sighting. Seriously considering defeating it from raising up, but will wait to test sight picture with XS or whatever night sights I end up with. I do like the XS set I have on an M&PC.

    I haven't read through all the comments so sorry if someone already pointed this out, but it's much easier to insert the trigger bar into the sear housing, then re-installing it before replacing the stop block. I've done two of these now and there's no reason not to do it this way and it's a night and day difference. Otherwise, very concise and easy to follow video and great upgrade for the Shield.

    @bradgilliam6374 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The Apex videos are a great help. The upgrade kits make a huge difference in the trigger action. If you have any mechanical aptitude at all, I encourage you to do this yourself. You will have much greater knowledge and appreciation for the inside of your gun. First time I used 2 x 4 pieces with holes drilled instead of the armorer's block, but the block makes the roll pin removal look much easier. Also, I don't know how this pro had such an easy time with the rear sight removal. Sometimes the M&P sights are extremely tight and nearly impossible to beat out with a punch. If you think you will be a serial sight changer (in addition to installing this kit), you might save some stress by purchasing the Ameriglo Front & Rear sight tool. Unfortunately the full-sized M&P and Shield call for different sight tools (SWTOOL12 or SWTOOL15 for Shield) at $100-$130 each. So you have to weigh what you might pay a gun shop to change your sights multiple times. $10 to $25, and maybe free if you purchase sights from same shop. But you may also want to tweak your sights on the range.

    Great vid! Put my shield kit together in the time it took me to watch, and follow you. With the aid of your shield trigger block. Used it 3 times, and your armorer block and tray. Love the tightening wheels! Took less than an hour pausing the video and going over it. Saw someone on the mp-pistol forum polish the parts. But i just cleaned everything and put it together. Now i know why everyone says it! My trigger feels smooth all the way through. Beautiful! Cant wait to shoot.

    On the shield plus the locking block interferes with the trigger bar and dosen't allow trigger bar to to inserted into the sear block. Both trigger,trigger bar and sear block have to be inserted at the same time with the sear block sitting just barely in it's place.
    The trick of pushing the trigger pin up against a solid object helps to insert the pin while driving out the slave pin really is a lifesaver and prevents hair loss.

    Well done, concise installation video. I'll save it for future reference. My 3 yr old Shield must be an exception. I have no grit in my trigger pull and it actually works very smoothly bone stock. The trigger pull weight whatever it is (untested) is just fine as is. I did purchase and will install the Ameriglo Pro I Dot night sights. When I do this I will also sand and polish the locking block and the edge of the piece that actuates the locking block as well as hone with rolled up sand paper the slide hole the locking block and spring sits in of any metal burrs.
    That should smooth things out even further. That will be the extent of my mods to the Shield carry gun.
    I just believe the cost of any of these trigger kits is just too much vs the cost of the actual pistol itself.

    All parts installed including truglo tfo sights. I chose the NON POLYMER APEX TRIGGER along with the APEX DUTY / CARRY kit. May take 5 or so days to get to the range. So Far, Vast improvement on dry fire. After polishing critical (stock) contact points, pulling consistently at 4.7 - 5.1 pounds helping to eliminate front sight post movement I had with the stock trigger which should result in greater accuracy. I'll post range results soon! STAY SAFE!!!

    • @billdunlap9850
      @billdunlap9850 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Made it to the range..all I can say is wow. what a difference. If you like to carry the shield, the apex trigger kit and some additional polishing the entire trigger bar with 1500 grt paper. The "safety" plunger cavity in the slide along with the firing pin channel have rough edges. Some rolled up1000 grit paper and about 20 minutes in those areas with a thorough cleaning after. Now pulling at 4.2 lbs, CRISP break. To The Range! After 300 so rounds, settled at 3.7 - 3.8 lbs. The thing is the trigger is still very positive. All "stops" are very deliberate, if u will. If Shield is ur summer carry, it's $, and time is worth it, Positive, yet not a hair trigger. Cant think of a better way to describe it.

    This is my 3rd or 4th Apex trigger kit install.
    I am getting pretty good at this.
    Also: If I may make a suggestion to modify your video.
    First: you should show WHY some one would want to do the Apex Kit. What is wrong or what is improved with the Kit.
    Second: You showed the Trigger Pull only AFTER you installed the kit.
    How about showing at the beginning the Trigger Pull of the Unmodified gun?
    Finally: State whether you feel anything else different.
    Does it feel better?
    Is the trigger pull too low for a concealed gun?
    Or did it not change?
    Thanks again for the video.

      When removing and re-installing the safety lever, you need to know that there is a silver covered bar that is under spring tension that is NOT captured except for by the safety lever when its in place.
      you need to be careful to not let the bar/latch and spring not fly everywhere. I spend 20 minutes on the floor with a magnet trying to find the damn spring.

      Actually, if you read the description of the product on our website, you will see that we do not make a Shield kit to take the pull down to 3 lbs. Also, the kit drastically improves the trigger pull characteristics.

    Does anyone know where I can get a dovetail punch like he uses at 16:20 on the video to remove the rear sight? That tool would really come in handy! Thanks

    Should have got the armorer's block to begin with... Took me almost half an hour just to get the frame pins out... Bent one of my punch pins in the process... Now I'm waiting on the block and a new set of punch pins to finish the job and reassemble my gun :(

    Just noticed this video doesn't show you how to take off the trigger bar and use the new trigger...and I also notice that it's the factory trigger.

    Great video but as I watched this I kept thinking why put a lighter trigger in a carry gun? Then at the end I saw that this kit gives a 5 1/2 lb pull. I purchased a new Shield about a month ago. Without any modification it already has a 5 1/2 lb trigger with no grit and it is crisp. It is the model with no thumb safety. Do all the new Shields without safeties have a sweet factory trigger or did I get lucky? I don't know but I love this pistol. I have 500 rounds of various ammo through it with no malfunctions and it is accurate for a smaller pistol.

      You got lucky! They just done put that much into the trigger with the price point it comes in at.

    I don't know why they leave it out but you have to heat up the rear sight screw in order to remove it. If you don't do that it'll never come out and you'll destroy it. Literally every other part of the installation is very easy.

      We do not recommend using heat to remove this screw or any part of the gun. We recommend a high quality precision ground hex driver like those available from Dynamite R/C which works wonders. Using heat will melt the striker block spring cap and make things much worse. We have done hundreds of these, please trust us when we say you don't need heat.

      Two separate gunsmiths I talked to said a press is requried to remove the rear sight on a Shield All the other parts of the trigger kit are relatively easy to install and I enjoyed learning more about how the internals of the frame operate. As for the rear sight, I would never reccommend somebody try to do it themselves. This video makes it look far easier than it really is.

    installing the sear block seems impossible to me. I have a shield 45 with thumb safety and it seems this safety takes up all the needed wiggle room needed to install the block. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

    I can’t put my trigger pivot pin back thru! It won’t line up with apex and believe me, I tried.. about 45 mins of trying before just about throwing the whole thing in the trash. Now I’m screwed wit a bunch of parts just laying around. Safety at its finest. I NEED HELLLLLP!!😩😩😩

    the stock trigger is the biggest issue. I polished the fire control group and pull and rest are noticeably improved. But that 2 piece trigger ruins the gun. Stupid that they use that trigger on a model with a safety.

    • @rf3899
      @rf3899 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      MW-15 not everyone chooses to use the safety. They may have been thinking of that when they decided on the 2 piece trigger.

    I just bought a 9mm S&w m&p shield here in Tennessee. After I bought it from the shop I found out it's a MA compliant gun which has the 10.5 trigger pull instead of the 6.5 pull from the regular S&w shield.
    What spring kit can I buy that will return my gun trigger pull to the regular S&w shield trigger pull 6.5lbs? I can't afford the Apex kit that has the trigger and all that good stuff. I just got the gun and can't sink in another 100 plus in it for something that should have been 6lbs to begin with. Surely they are some springs or something I can change to get the trigger pull to normal.
    If you can please tell me what I need or a link I'll to ahead and order it. This is my CCW gun I just got my licenses to carry so the trigger pull is a life and death thing.
    Thank you

    Installed this kit on my shield and now I don't have much of an audible reset "click". Everything else seems to function. Is this something I should be worried about?
