Reviewing A BROKEN Audi A6 40 TDI That I Bought 3 months ago 😤

- I bought a broken Audi A6 40 TDI with a common gearbox fault. Luckily Audi fixed the problem but I bought the car back in May 2022 and got it back 3 months later after Audi replaced the broken mechatronic gearbox unit. This is just a usual issue with car trading, it's perfectly normal for anything used to go wrong but it can be frustrating having funds tied up in broken cars because that then stops you from being able to buy more potentially profitable stock. I bough this car back in May and literally as soon as it was repaired we got it advertised, had a crazy amount of interest in it and sold it straight away with a nice profit. The profit would have been higher if we sold the car back in May when book prices were higher but as I say, this is just standard stuff when you're dealing with any used goods.

My mate was preparing to die on a hill arguing with me insisting this little random audi a1. 40tfsi was a 4L engine 😂 I didn't know exactly what it was but was certain it didn't have a 4L engine 😂 30 seconds on autotrader ended that dispute 😂

Touch screens are all Fingerprints, distractions and gonna age terribly.
I've said this for a long time now Calvin - touchscreens are bloody dangerous in cars, I'm surprised they're legal. The ONLY screen you should be looking at when you're driving is the windscreen.
They're unreliable and it's a pain to actually do anything with them. Switches, knobs & dials are best.
You were fighting them on the beaches in Normandy too were ya

Hi Calvin That's great video thanks for posting. I have been driving the same car for 2 months now, I totally agree about the touch screen being a distraction I always wait until I'm at the traffic lights before I start to play with the screen. I am thinking about making a channel just about this car from an older persons point of view because I found all the tech so confusing. Thanks for clearing up the confusion about the 40 badge.
I'm totally in agreement with the touch screen issue , they do need some getting used to.
I'v an old MK6 Golf that was pretty basic so I decided to upgrade the radio for a headunit so I'd have a dab radio , sat nav , telephone and reversing camera all in one place instead of scattered all over the car with wires everywhere.
It's an awesome piece of kit but can be a distraction and I would imagine dangerous in the hands of the inexperienced.
Glad you addressed the 40 thing iv been wondering the same when iv seen them about, I honestly thought the same thing about 4 litre. Least we know now aha
I have the Audi Avant 2019 with the normal controls as you were asking for, it does make things a lot easier to operate. I looked at the S Line but the cost was way too much as it was a compnay car, it was still £36 K. I bought it when the lease finished, great cars.
After 16 years VAG still have the same issues on the DSG boxes?.
No, I think early DSG/S-Tronics were not great and the odd late one, everything late just wants to break, too many microchips, bet it isn't the oily bits but the nannies computers modules chips. Just a guess
If your going for a auto personally has to be a ZF 8, shifts quick but most importantly very cheap and widely available to replace if does go wrong.
Yes still there but there are now many companies out there which have become experts with these units. which will save you money.
@@GARRYEASTON yes but used dsgs costs around £1000 let’s say £400 to fit £1400 if it goes wrong and will need coding also due to mechatronic. ZF8s cost £300 as there is so many cars that use it. £400 to fit and let’s say £150 to code to car £850 to replace gearbox in a £20k car is not bad at all.

May have been mentioned already but you can turn off the haptic feedback (as I have ) in the options and it does suddenly become a lot more responsive. As others have mentioned, you get used to the touch fairly quickly but the biggest issue is the fingerprint/dust magnet on the screens but also the black surround. Also the startup music can also be switched off if you don't like it.
It is a beautiful car. I love the look of a corporate saloon. Screen setup is probably the most well laid out in the game.
I am a bit puzzled by the manual steering column adjustment. I know it's traditional of the A6, but it should have been implemented by now to add to the luxurious personal.

Milton Keynes audi are great, I walked in to the Chelmsford dealer, looking to pay cash an because I was I'm my work clothes(bricklayer) they turned their nose up , so I drove over and actually rang binca to see what you had on the way... bought a q3 black within 5 mins of getting there
Now tell the people who’s watching how much that new unit would cost and to have fitted at Audi if it didn’t have a warranty,, it’s happened to a friend of mine and it’s eye watering and a common problem or so people say 👍
You can turn off the haptic feed back on MMI on these Audis which makes the screen more responsive and more phone like

I have a 21 plate estate A6 40TDI Black Edition, great car, got a few of the extra packs added, tour pack, sound & comfort pack and the tech pack. Very easy motorway driving easily get 55mpg, more than enough power for everyday driving but if you're pushing on I wish it had a little more power. As to the screen issue, massive fingerprint magnet so have to contantly wipe down. But you do get used to everything being touch screen I don't even think about it now when changing the temperature. I don't really use the rest of the system it has wireless Android Auto so mainly use that. Fingers crossed haven't had anything major go wrong just a central locking fault which they fixed very quickly. Just hope as it gets older the gearbox stays together!
Have the gearbox oil and filter changed every 60k. Audi say its lifetime fluid...but thats not a good thing.

@@duckham8668 Hey, the oil eating is a audi/vw thing. It will actually tell you in the manual that it will eat so much per some Km. VWs been doing that for as long as I can remember. 👍
40 meaning the power group of engine 40 is 190-201 45 228-265 I used to have an a8L that was a 55 340

I have just bought the 2015 A6 S line with the lot. Also with the dial selector. Much safer. You can watch the road and select whatever you want , at the same time.
It has the V6 3L TDI twin turbo,320hp and 650nm, it is a rocket , it gets 1000+ km to a 73l tank. With real exhaust tips 😂.
In Australia I paid under 25% of the new cost. The best value for money ever, in my experience.

The s tronic box drives like a dream but is so unreliable and costly you would be stupid to get any car with it fitted. ZF box is the only way to go.

had my car since new a 19 plate exactly the same colour and s-line edition with 15000 on the clock yes i know thta is nothing and have had nothing wrong with it. touch wood. the only thing i have a problem with is that one of my key fobs has lost signal. otherwise cant moan. love it

You have some "knobbs" on the steering wheel to control your stereo..etc..
72k and it needs a mechatronic unit already 😂 only gearbox to get in an a6 is the 8spd zf. Would not buy one with 7spd S-tronic.

you're saying the touch screen is not good. There are adjustments you can make (turn off he[tic feedback) in the settings to make it more responsive and it acts just as any other smartphone screen without the need to press it hard

Went from 2015 Seat Leon FR estate to a 66 plate Audi A6 estate, both with the 2.0 TDI and both manual. Couldn’t be happier with the change🤗 The Leon was a lot easier to pull through small gaps, I have to be a bit more careful with this A6😂 a friend of mine has a GTD. Great choice🤗

Audi always overstating their engines with the numbers at the back, I preferred it when BMW actually understated some engines (125i 325i) both 3.0

HPI Trade Check, likely Cap. You have to a be registered trader I should think.

72k on a diesel Audi ain’t bad and looked after Diesel engine can pass 200k easily it’s not a petrol engine which wouldn’t last as long.

Thousands of £££££
Around £2k for a new unit. Supplied and fitted with new oil and software uploaded to it. You can get refurbished for hundreds.

The reason Audi introduced the new bading like 40 TDI is because at the same time they wanted to experiment with small engines with bigger turbos. They ran the Audi A4 range on 1.4L engines and used the 35 TDI to mask how small the engine actually was. Needless to say it was a flop and we are stuck with this crappy naming.
I've now heard more Audis needing Gearboxes fixed than Tories sorting out their rich buddies.

My last 2 Audi's both had gearbox faults so I moved to Mercedes and now have to accept a shredded driver's seat @ less than 90k on the clock..... Come on Audi and Merc you can do better!

That's because Calvin most of the so called letter in the Mercedes,is actually called artico which is not leather, but a man made material to look like leather, and guess what it doesn't last.

I have a bmw 5 series 2013 bought it with 49000 miles now 130000 I only buy tires and brakes basic things like service so I Don't understand u when u say they are not built to last

no, on a modern diesels there should be no smoke
However the reasoning for this was so you didn't see the smoke so much also deadens the sound....PRE DPF> that is.
Bentley & rolls Royce only have quality leather
a lot of the problem with leather is people never maintain it by cleaning and treating it then it dries out and cracks especially in hot climates. I do mine 3-4 times a year putting leather balm on it to keep it supple.

The 40 badge are just Audi trying to be smart....40 is either 165 or 198 bhp. 45 is 223 or 244....they do 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 60 or 70...basically it means not a lot 🤣
It’s like when the old beemers had the 3 series with all the 116i bla bla bla. Audi are trying to add as many letters and numbers to the boot lid of all there cars 😂
