Hydraulic Lash Adjuster or commonly abbreviated as HLA is a system found in car engines which is useful for adjusting valve gaps so that you don't need to adjust the gaps periodically.
HLA (Hydraulic Lash Adjuster) is a small component located at one end of the rocker arm or valve trigger shaped like a bullet. Inside there are components consisting of springs, check balls, check ball springs, oil-filled chambers with high and low pressure plus holes for oil to go in and out. (automotive.kompas.com)
HLA Functions/Useful for adjusting valve settings which is done automatically, in contrast to conventional car settings which are done by adjusting the valve adjustment bolts and nuts which are done manually.
HLA is not only found in new INJECTION/DOHC/INJECTION/EFI engine cars, but also in older CARBURETOR/SOHC engine cars. example of HLA HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTER In carburetor cars, for example found in Timor SOHC cars, Mazda 626 Capella, Ford TX5 Th 88 and above such as Ford TX5 Grand TX 5 Thunder
